That talk by the judge Rutherford is one of many of the determining factors why I don't believe in the WTS statements. I have had many a friend who tried to "hang on" to see this prophesy come true only to fall in death. How sad that they based their hopes and dreams on ones not dying.

February 2010 Study Watchtower - Millions Now Living 'May' Never Die
by Marni Mai injust noticed that in the february 2010 study edition of the watchtower, they refer to the "millions now living will never die" talk in 1918, but they have changed the title to "millions now living may never die".
only problem, they included the picture of the invitation to the talk, which says 'will'.. ooops.
it's on page 16. enjoy.. .

Praying for holy spirit
by JWinprotest insince i'm in a complaining mood, i'll just throw one more in there.. one of the brothers praying at my circuit assembly said, "jehovah may your holy spirit continue to operate on the faithful and discreet slave.".
i thought, what a stupid thing to pray for.
if these guys are already ordained by god, why would we have to pray to god to ask him to continue supplying them with holy spirit, by their standard these guys should never lose it.. alright, that's it for today.. .

Yes the JWs always want more holy spirit even if you think they have it.

Do dubs intentionally mess up other people's holidays/birthdays?
by rebel8 inmine does.
goes way out of her way to stir up trouble, conflict, and manipulate the former and non-dub relatives into not having a nice holiday.
goes to extremes to do so, and is at it again, right on cue..

I remember avoiding family gatherings during the holidays and knocking on doors trying to spread the WTS message. I could tell that the non-jw family was hurt and did not understand my position. But I was not out to hurt any of the family members at the time, I thought that this was what Jehovah wanted as the WTS stated. Sadly in my case it shows that some mess up other's holidays totally out of ignorance or being blinded by the WTS teachings not out of hate of the family members.

Dead Relatives and the Resurrection. Why the need to See Dead People?
by VIII inminimus started a thread asking why the resurrection was comforting.
i said i would start a new thread to get more responses to *my question*:.
why do so many people want to see dead relatives?

There are ones that I loved who died and I would like to see them alive again. Jesus resurrected ones back to life. And hopefully I will get to see a resurrection of ones I so dearly loved.

Yesterday's WT
by WalkTall inthe whole wt yesterday, which was supposed to be about love, actually centered on how we should react to 'persecutors'.
it was horrible to hear the audience comments...calling 'worldly people' everything from 'they are unkind and mean' to them being 'hateful and unneighborly'.
i sat there and thought about how this 'us vs. them' mentality is the very thing that is contributing to the divisive and separatist world we live in.

Is it possible for an Elder to get back his "priviledges" after being demoted?
by african GB Member infor example, if he was demoted due to one of his children(who are still under him) being df'd or is no longer "exemplary".. agbm.

An elder who resigns has up to a certain number of months to request to return as an elder, otherwise he has to wait to be appointed as a ministerial servant. An elder who is removed has to wait to be appointed as a ministerial servant. I have seem both situtations.
Demotion is not possible. I remember one elder who wanted less work by becoming a ministerial servant and that just did not happen.

alcoholism a clear and present danger for JWs and XJWs?
by quietlyleaving ini was having an interesting discussion with an xjw recently and we both knew of elders who were alcoholic but who were allowed to keep their privileges because their condition was described as a disease.
the elder i knew was also spotted in a drunken state on a couple of occasions.
he kept his privileges.

Like everything in the WTS, it is who you are friends with and who you know. I know of some cong that would have handled this elder with a jc immediately, where another cong may not if this elder had just the right contacts.
