Your thoughtful opinion is requested, please, on a possible proposal to free my wife from JWs

six years 'jw free', my wife is still in, although she's now nowhere neary as zealous as i was when in.

for this i'm grateful.. please take a moment to review my current situation as far as my wife's involvement is concerned with our 4, adult male children:.

my wife regularly contacts my dfd son, invites him and his wife to visit us, along with their 4 year old son, and thinks absolutely nothing of it!

It has to come from her, I wouldn't encourage you to do anything that could backfire on you.

You may want to discuss the situation, maybe over a bottle of wine. Something along the line of "I know you want to do what's right regarding your beliefs, but it's seems odd to me that your not willing to submit to what the GB suggests regarding DF'd people." " If you believe the GB speaks in behalf of J how do you reconcile this with your current behaviour"

Something along that line, you dont want to make her feel uneasy or defensive, it has to be a sincere desire you understand.

All I can say is Adam couldn't have been that smart, everyone knows you eat the fruit of life first then the fruit of knowledge!

Looks like it's going to be a good movie. They should have held off until december 2011 though, that would have made it much cooler.

My SIL might be 'fishin'....?

my wife 'faded' during the same time i da'd myself.

we are absolutely both on the same page.. it is interesting [and on another level disturbing] that 'status' plays so heavily in the minds of jw's and their relationships.

as many others have related, my wife sometimes is engaged in conversations with jw's she meets in public, while all those same jw's will totally 'shun' me - sometimes in the same moment.

I feel your pain and understand 100% where your coming from. You need to heal and be at peace with the situation. What I suggest is to look at things from their point of view meaning.They don’t see or understand what they are doing, they have no clue how wrong this behavior is. One would think it should be self evident, but from experience I have learned that people will do anything and everything to be right! Religion and personal beliefs is a very powerful tool. You are no longer under their control, but allow your hate of their control to hinder your peace of mind.

And yes your SIL is most likley fishing for facts that can be used against your wife. It should be expected.

Attending another church is grounds for disfellowshipping

i'm listening to part two of hobo ken's first judicial committee meeting.

the part of the proceedings i'm at is where the 3 elders on the committee are interrogating hobo about his fellowship with my wife and me (we had started attending a church, this had become known to our respective families, so to save them having to testify against us we dad).

one elder in particular has a thorn up his backside (and he knows who he his) because hobo, iknowall and their kids went on holiday with us pre-hobo's disfellowshipping.

If you join a golf club and do something that’s against the rules, they have the right to kick your arse out, it’s usually in the contract. I assume it’s the same thing with any religion, you would probably have to prove that you joined without knowing the rules, which I doubt would be very easy, especially considering the magnitude of study and understanding that is required to join in this case, A verbal agreement is a form of contract and can be just as valid, unless you can prove that you were mentally inapt to make the decision. Just my opinion.

Cameo-d: I’m really confused with your points.

For clarification purposes I’m simply pointing out certain theological points that are based on the bible, nothing more. I don’t even believe the bible is the word of god, I don’t believe in god. I haven’t been a JW in over 12 years and have no personal interest in defending them if that’s what your insinuating by your comments.

That being said, I’m also fairly well versed as to what the bible says and can logically understand what some of the writers meant. If something makes sense why wouldn’t I point things out according to my own opinion and logic? You may or may not agree with them, that’s your prerogative.

“ Why are you here?" I enjoy discussing these subjects, just like I enjoy discussing astronomy, oceanography, and a whole lot of different subjects that make up the world around us, even though I am not in those fields of study.

If god created man and man was for all intended purpose perfect in the eyes of god, I simply refer to things as how god viewed the situation. This being the case no matter the reason the fact remains that they turned away from god fully knowing what god required of them. In the case of the tree of knowledge they were not to touch it and eat the fruit. Pretty simple instructions if you asked me. It was a perfect law established by god. One has to assume it was understood by Adam and Eve, if not it would negate the idea that god loved what he created, by creating a law that they( Adam and Eve) could not follow.

“So, if they were perfect beforehand...it was only because they were mindless...void of reasoning capabilities....and were zombie slaves.” It’s assumed that man and angels had cognitive and intellectual skills built in. If not they would be no different than any other living creature, which is very clearly indicated in the bible to the contrary. You can believe they were zombies it’s a matter of opinion. I’m just offering a point of view based on certain logic.

I’m certainly not saying that Adam and Eve and the angels didn’t have their own reasons to turn away from god I’m just saying they did, and all parties knew what they were doing. If not it opens a whole other can of worms and I really don’t think it would be worth debating in this thread.

If angels have emotions I can't see why they couldn't change their minds and regret and eventually repent if it was allowable.

Obviously like Adam and Eve they were perfect meaning they absolutely knew the truth as how it relates to god, technically they don't have the excuse for turning away from him. The thing is they have no recourse as there are no provisions in this situation.

after being gone from the jw's for many years now , and having done extensive research on the history of god and the belief in him , i can't seem to find any logical way to have a belief in an invisble being up there ruling over us.

I believe god was created in mans image. Which if one thinks of it in logical and historical terms, makes a lot of sense. The god question filled in a lot of blanks, especially for ancient man who looked at everything in a more simplistic fashion. Mankind is the only creature that can mould the world around him, everything else follows a pattern. So it’s logical that man would believe he was created, considering his higher intellect.

It’s always possible that a higher being spark life into existence, not only here but elsewhere also, after all that’s a lot of space out there, why waste it. I really don’t see the point in worship as nothing is really proven in this regard.

The Bible

i am meeting a coworker tonight at a coffee shop for a "bible study".

it started out that she was interested in my past and my current questions / viewpoints and we were just going to visit.

now she is referring to it as a "bible study" which implies that she thinks i need to be taught.

And where did mans freedom of choice come from? Man? If one believes in a creator, then he was ultimately responsible. As ALLTIMEJEFF pointed out on his posts if the parent isn’t there to have a positive influence or set the rules and police the situation crap is going to hit the fan. It’s actually even more appalling when one thinks about it in the following manner.

God creates man, man turns away from god partly because god allows a 3 rd party to influence man. God disgusted with mans decision figures “they’ll learn” and allows the 3 rd party to continue to have a bad influence on man, yet he himself not doing anything positive for man, or counter action to the bad influence. God even go’s so far as to punish mankind on a few occasions (ouch). But of course the whole time this god makes promises to those that would obey him they will be rewarded. Obviously with time things degenerate so much that man even doubts in existence of this all loving father, because like they say “actions are stronger than words”. So can we say their was freedom of choice in this matter? Not really because this choice would require that all mankind be perfect and know what the choices meant in absolute terms. All we have lived is the bad side of it and only promises from the good side.
