it appears to me that even in the few months that i have been here there is less and less emphasis on jehovah's witnesses and anything remotely related to jws and more very poor posts about politics, foreign affairs and celebrities.
i can't omit the juvenile sex ones, which i find lacking in erotic nature.
it seems the 6th grade boys are meeting in the locker room.. the posts that involve jws have a very different tone from the drivel posted on others.
It does seem a bit ironic that someone who became a lawyer because of their interests in civil rights and freedom of speech wants to limit the topics discussed on a JW-and-life-related forum.
If you only want to read and participate in WT-related topics, click on "Home" and scroll down to the section "WatchTower Society". Hopefully you will then be able to avoid most of the fluff topics that you seem to despise.
i haven't read the wildly popular books, but i've found the new hbo television series, game of thrones to be quite entertaining.
so far, two episodes have aired, and i think i'm hooked.
there are more than a few interesting characters, both good, bad and in between.
I read the first couple of books in the series. About half of the character stories I loved and the other half I found meh. I haven't checked out the adaptation yet, but I thought it looked good from the previews!

Some people just want to chill out here and chat. You do realize that you do not need to read fluff threads if you do not find them interesting? Just ignore them; don't click on them.
It really is that simple.
And by the way, some people find what you call "drivel" interesting, entertaining, and/or funny. There's no need to be insulting.
over a couple of years ago, i did a relatively quick fade, having dropped fs and then meetings cold turkey with the space of a few months.
sure there was a bit of harassment and stalking for a while but it soon petered out as my wish to be left alone became know among the locals.
admittedly i stretched things out a little bit longer by going to meetings and conventions when i visited family in their towns for about another year after but now i'm completely "clean" as it were.
If I was in your situation, I would keep telling the family as little as possible. If anyone makes a comment, you could say that the nosiest gossip in the congo "stumbled" you, and very idea of attending meetings with them makes you ill. You can probably think of something.
For most Witnesses, if you're out of sight, you're out of mind. Sounds like it's been going okay so far, but you might want to plan some excuses- sounds like a witch apostate and inactive hunt might be coming up, from comments I've seen on here about upcoming lit.
post any church signs that are funny, or with unintentional meanings, or just plain bad.... .

it these tough economic times many of us have looked back at the decisions we made concerning money with much dismay.
the organization has cost many people 100's of thousands of dallors or more over the course of their life time.. 1. all the time and gas spent on knocking on doors.. 2. brothers that ripped you off in business.. 3. all the money i gave my exwifes dead beat relatives.. 4. making just minumum wage for two years of poineering.
than going to bethel for four years making only $22 a month, 9 dallors of which went for subway tokens.
I don't have a big problem with the money that I wasted on boring clothes, boring shoes, and boring get togethers. I really begrudge the money that I wasted by not investing in a 401K and savings (because the end is sooo near!) Not to mention starting college at 30 instead of after high school.
I think the financial cost pales in comparison to the intangibles that I lost- a good relationship with "worldly family" and that was all of my extended family because my parents joined when I was 5, the social experiences of high school like joining a sports team (I was asked during gym class to join track and volleyball) or going to prom. I wish life had a replay button.
so my mom tells me that my jw niece (whom i have known all my life but has made zero attempts to contact me after i left jdubland) told my mom that she misses me,.
she was invited to a "get together" at a married jw's house and i always went with her to those things before because she is single (because of the narrow field of good jw brothers who want a 30something pioneer who lives with her parents), and i was "spiritually single" (because i had no scriptural grant for divorce because of adultery-he skipped town).
but now she had to go alone and she didn't want to (but she figured she had to go, otherwise people would stop inviting her to do things), and big suprise from a jw "get together"...she didn't have a good time.. aaarg how depressing for her... i had to respond to my mom, so i said:.
Finally-Free, the same thing happens to me. My parents tell me that so-n-so missed me, and the majority of the time it's people who never talked to me when I was attending.

even though i've been out for over 7 years and haven't attended in that long - i never cease to be amazed at the arrogance of this patriarchal man pleasing wt society in it's dismissive attitude towards women .

Articles like that make me soooo happy that I married a "worldly" guy. In our marriage, we do things according to our strengths, not stereotypical gender roles. I'm really organized, so I take care of our finances and bills. I like to cook and bake, so I usually do that (he makes a great curry stirfry!) He likes to clean, so he does most of the laundry and dishes. Other house and lawn chores get split by what we want to do, or dislike the least. Works for us so far, we'll be married 8 years in May. That's longer than a few jw couples that I know- ha!
firstly a wedding/sales talk that mostly features heavily on how the woman should behave (hint, doormat) and lightly brushes over the fact of the husbands bevhaviour ( oh yeah he should treat her well).
the reception normaly at some crummy comunity hall with yellowed ceilings and chucks of damp plaster falling off the walls.
the seats normaly arranged facing eachother all around the edge, so that theres a huge unused space in the middle and everyone is climbing over everyone elses legs to get to their chair.. a big spread donated by everyone, normaly an ode to food poisoning.
Only Kingdom Melodies get played before the ceremony. Heaven forbid that some nice classical or other instumental pieces get played.

an average of (20.9), jews (20.5), mormons(20.3), protestants(16).
