My family joined a congregation where most people were related to each other, so we were pretty much the outsiders. People would plan get-togethers, pointedly talk about it in front of us, then say, "Oh, but you're not invited." Usually that was the kids, not the adults. Then those morons would talk about how it seemed like we didn't really want to be at meetings. Yeah, ya think?!

What's with all the 'Imminent' nonsense?
by AK - Jeff incould it be that the proximity of 2014 is at the heart of it?.
i have no contact with jw's - except on this board - but my wife does at times with her family.
imminent is the cry of the sky for the jw's it seems.. i recall the years leading up to 1975 with a lot of that sort of thing.

My mom said that at the last dc they really stressed how close "the end" is. I laughed and told her that they've been saying that for years. "Remember Mom? I wasn't supposed to graduate high school!"

It'll probably be in a "Young People Ask..." thing. "Should true Christians use social networking?"

Nathmedeah, I have a question- and I'm not being a smart ass, honest! Aren't the blood cards totally useless? If you're in an accident, aren't the paramedics too busy saving your life to go through your wallet? That's what I've always wondered: Why don't witnesses get the medical ID bracelets or necklaces instead?

IF it is NOT wise for a man to be ALONE with a woman he's NOT married to
by Spike Tassel insola scriptura answered andersonsinfo:.
the wt leadership has hammered into all of it's elders and rank & file's heads, that it is not wise for a man to be alone with a woman he is not married too (adult or young woman... ie 14).
even in congregation sanctioned duties.. so, why, then, do so many service pairings involve just that: a brother alone in the territory (even if it's to make a call) with a sister he's not married to?.

Spike, reading with someone, talking with someone about your spirituality is socialising.
Anyway, getting back to your first question on how can a man and woman get to know each other while never being alone together- Growing up, my parents would chaperone some of the couples in the congregation. The young couple would usually sit in the living room by themselves and talk. Our living room was on the main floor and had large doorways to the dining room and hallway. So while they had the privacy to do their own study and discussions together, someone else would be in the next room or walking by the living room and there was no chance of any hanky-panky going on.

JW's Value Position & Appearances over Displaying God's Qualities
by flipper inbefore some of the long time members here say to me " tell us something we don't know flipper " - please hear me out on this one.
some of the newly exiting jw's may not know this info - but need to be made aware of it.. as a young man i was raised in the cult jehovah's witnesses and remained from birth until age 44 .
i was never, ever asked by my elder father in all those years the question, " son, how is your relationship with jehovah doing ?

I remember at book study one night- at a sister's home- I took my sandals off at the door, sat down in the living room, and a couple of women were all over me. Why? My feet were bare. They were clean, but I wasn't wearing nylons or socks. Apparently, it was disrespectful to have bare feet at book study (even though I pointed out that in the Bible having bare feet was a sign of humbleness). A pair of socks were even offered to me to wear. I refused, but was wearing a long skirt so tucked my feet underneath. That just drove home the point (to me) that being at the meeting wasn't important, appearances were.

Spike, have you thought about going to a different congregation? It sounds like the elders in your current one are unwilling to understand your condition and are lacking in sympathy. You also would get the chance to meet other lovely ladies and get a chance to practice socializing with women.
