Gary, I am your fellow worldly, and you know it. I see a trend here: you will sink into boredom, more and more, with every meeting. That's not news for the people here, but I wonder how you will handle that.

Visiting brother gets fed today...
by garyneal ini suffered through 3 hours of jw-dom by going to the meeting with my wife because my daughter wanted to go and my niece was being carried too.
a part of me feels a bit obligated to go when my daughter goes out of protection for her and a part of me feels like i should go since my wife had two small girls going with her and my daughter alone is a handful.. a visiting brother in the neighboring city of suffolk, va gave a talk today and some of the people wanted to take him out to dinner.
my wife was invited to go along and she was real excited about that.

Sorry, I will take sides here. The worldly girl is reacting this way because we worldlies don't know better. We've never been in.
In her mind, telling your mother that you want out of the religion is no big deal. We do that all the time. I left my church many, many years ago, and my family didn't like it but no one shunned me, everyone knows pushing me to go back would be unsuccessful, and I could return any minute if I wanted. So I know she doesn't feel telling your mother what you want should take years. She needs an explanation.
It is clear, however, that Billy has a point.

Thoughts on NOT dating
by wantstoleave injust throwing some thoughts out there.
wondering if anyone feels the same as i do.
you know, being brought up not being allowed to date until you were 'of marrying age'.

I believe that all this pain comes from the fact that the society does not see marriage as the coming together of two people, for their own good, but, instead, as something it LETS people do. As a necessary evil, that, therefore, needs to be regulated and curtailed. It's not about love and the two persons involved, but about pleasing others.
Like Spook said, spending long periods of time with the person, being honest and open, sharing situations and seeing each other act in them, and, yes, having sex to see if there is compatibility, all this is fine if you want the marriage to last for the two people involved. If you want it to last because The Organization says so, then you get all the misery.

SourGrapes, you wrote "just because we have building projects projected for the next 4 years doesn't mean at all we have 4 years remaining".
May we take this to mean that the society is accepting that you never know what the future will bring, yet you have to use your eyes and prepare yourself for the future?

Moshe is right, too, about dating someone from work. I just would like to point out that the relationship already exists, and it went... far.
About rediscovering yourself, yeah, that is true, too. I just hope you rediscover yourself but you keep your eyes open about the good things that she brings with her.

Aeiouy, I would very much like to ask a certain persons the questions you were asked. I wonder if you can send me a private message with the contents of those questions.
If you read my very first post, you will understand why I want this.
I would like to comment on Out at Last's post. YEAH, she has those books because she is interested in Aeiouy, and she's been doing her homework to really understand the man! It must have taken her months! On this basis, Aeiouy, DON'T BE A DAMNED FOOL AND GO AFTER THAT GIRL.
Loving a dub isn't easy, and, having been on her shoes, I can tell you that only too often we the despicable worldlies will find ourselves wondering why we have to put ourselves to all the pain of loving an active dub instead of simply having it way, way easier with another worldly. To begin with, no relative of yours will wonder whether the Dub will try to convert them, or whether he or she has already converted YOU. If she has come back to you so many times, the girl really loves you. Will you lose that over a lie that keeps you enslaved, man? SHE REALLY LOVES YOU, UNCONDITIONALLY. Now, how often have you received unconditional love? You can love her, or you can lose her to go back to placing magazines. OPEN WIDE THOSE EYES OF YOURS!

I haven't read "The Orwellian World" yet, but I had a look at a few pages here and there, and agree with On The Way Out that it does offer a different angle.
