blue, you've made some very interesting points! Being a jw for so long, I always took for granted that the great apostasy set in just as the wts has taught, but I may need to re-examine that issue. thanks!

A Dissection of Panorama
by SYN inthanks to the poster who delivered the transcript at this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/forum/thread.asp?id=32281&site=3, i can now do a brief dissection of the panorama program.
this post is intended purely for dub lurkers - just about everyone else here will probably have already reached similiar conclusions themselves, without a doubt.
anonymous sister, one of the people interviewed by panorama, says: .

SYN, whenever things like this happen and innocent people get pushed around by those in authority, I think of the account in John chapter 9, in which the Pharisees tried to bully the blind man who was healed by Jesus. In my view, that account was recorded for times just like this, and by reading it one can clearly see whom Jesus sided with. It's one of the best examples of the 'little guy' triumphing over the big, unmerciful religious conglomerate that claims fastidious rightousness but are exposed by their own cruel actions.

Will religion ever be banned?
by haujobbz ini was asking because look at all the problems religion are causing :september 11,middle east crisis, waco disaster, clashes in ireland, paedophiles priests, suicide bombings, papal system etc.but think if masses of people protested it my not ban religion completely, but it could make a start to banning it.but the trouble again is that a lot of people want religion even if it is full of @*~t,yeh and why is it that people know theres problems in there religion but wont take a stand, why are religious people are such cowards to the truth.saying that though if i managed to get say jws banned from preaching i would be fulfilling bible prophecy mmm how cool lol

Hauj, I was just thinking about this matter recently. You are right - with all that's been happening since 9/11, it's natural to wonder if the death knell is close at hand for organized religion.
However, I also noticed the fervor with which so many people, including politicians opposed the recent court ruling concering the words "under God" that are part of the Pledge Of Allegience.
As a result, my guess is that, at this point in time, wiping out religion would be very difficult. Of course, one could distinguish between "organized" religion and personal religion of religion carried out in small groups and say that one could be banned without terribly affecting the other.
I also wonder if, as time goes by, the WTS may change their "understanding" concerning the downfall of religion.

JWs are RIGHT and worldlings are LIARS
by haujobbz inthis honestly seem to be message im getting from most jws.think about it whats more important the source or the information ie:say for instance i was an ex jw and told a witness who new me there house was on fire would they believe me, or label me as being unspiritual and liar.they seem to think that the watchtower society is jehovah, if he tells them to jump its matter of how high?

Yes, Joanna's approach seems to be the best way to go at this point, and from what I can tell, it's the same approach taken by quite a few on this board. It's sad too, because rational discussion based strictly on available evidence almost can never be had with many jws. They're conditioned to slapping that label on any who dare seriously question the teachings and or actions of the .Org

I recently purchased a remastered CD of The Stranger. The song "Just The Way You Are" sounds excellent, with sparse instrumentation and an expansive sound stage. It gave me a new appreciation for a song I had always taken for granted. I have all his CDs from the Stranger through to his latest effort on classical piano.
I also love the Millenium Concert CD from NY on New Year's eve 1999. Liberty Devito's drum work is great, and Joel was in great form. I also like the Songs In The Attic live CD. His live disc from Russia was okay, but not as good as these two, IMO.
I saw Billy in concert back in the early 80s - it was a very good show.

LyinEyes, we try to have a very open relationship, and yes, we have scribbled together in many a WT magazine, and lately, even my wife (who used to be a very die-hard jw but just as recently as two weeks ago, after more annoying goings-on involving jws, said "Jehovah, you might as well kill me now, because I don't want to live forever with these people", reminding me of the Liberty or Death post above) has gotten into the act. I can certainly relate to how your and your son used to pass the time, lol.
We both had fun reading our daughter's text messages, and also hearing the latest teen gossip (more cases of youngsters simply unable to cope with all the demands and 'getting in trouble' as a result).
My daughter is free to say anything she wants, and if she's bored at a meeting, she knows she can say it. She is there because she wanted to go, and had she not wanted to attend, that would have been fine too. Gone are the days when we expected her to live up to the demands of a religion that ended up causing her such frustration (she basically felt like she had to be the perfect elder's daughter).
And, of course, the likely reason she is there primarily is to socialize and meet guys. And that's fine too......I remember well the days when I was there primarily to socialize and scope out the girls.
Farkel, funny comments, yeah, it probably was during the first talk when the boredom set in. A few weeks back, I dropped her off and then picked her up after one hour (the Ministry School) and the first thing she said when she got in the car was "that was boring".
Xena, lol @ the "bad daddy"!! Bad daddy sat this whole one out; I was planning to attend one day but then decided not to. Bad daddy almost had a nervous breakdown trying to be perfect daddy, elder, etc. Just the thought of those days makes me cringe.
