  How do you not care

  here is my dilemma.....i am the type of person that gets upset when things are unjust and people act unfair towards me or my family.

  but here is the problem.

  as you know, we have been da and my husband's ex-wife (who was just reinstated) and his family (who live in the same apt bldg we do) cannot stand me.

  I will attempt an objective comment here:

  I tend to see things this way; If you can't change them, you accomplish nothing by letting them upset you. I know for a fact my family and hers are so indoctrinated, that in their minds, the way the treat us, is the way God wants them to treat us. So I accept it. I certainly don't understand or like it, but I know that I can't change it.

  Lori sometimes you seem to take things personally, and that's understandable. But like Cult Classic said, there must be a different way to cope with the frustration.

  a childs point of view of shunning

  i was having a casual chat with my little girl of 6 last night ansd she said she loved her cousins (her disfellowshipped aunties girls ) then she said we also have some other familie that we have not seen for ages havnt we (i thought she had forgot them ) i said well thats because they belong to a silly religion that wont let them see us (her daddy is disfellowshipped ) she replied oh well lets go and see them instead then !

  how do i handle that ?.

  I can somewhat relate...my ex-wife is a recently reinstated witness and is teaching my daughters about the witnesses. (They are 4 and 6). My 6 year old is ok with celebrating holidays and birthdays with me and not with her mom, but at times she asks me why and all though I try to be respectful of her mom's beliefs, I have a hard time explaining it in terms she understands...

  Moving On after being a JW

  after leaving this religion has there been anything that you have done that is completely separate, or negative from their belief/control system.

  yet from a worldy viewpoint you make a difference,,, a positive stamp in some aspect of everyday life ?.

  for an example to get things started, one thing that i have done is trained my dog to help people in the hospital.

  Me and my wife have affiliated with an organization to start volunteering, and to start putting together food and clothing drives. It's something that has interested us both for awhile, but to the witnesses always seemed like a waste of time.

  Now we have the time, so we are doing it. Plus we've talked about volunteering at food shelters, and soup kitchens during the holidays.

  he stated to me that he really wanted me to attend the ceremony, so me and lorijis will be attending the ceremony this evening.

  i dont know if we'll be ready for all of the shunning that will occur, but i want to be there and so does he.. the funny thing is we never received an invitation or anything to let us know about the wedding.

  I agree...funny me and my wife joke that they may not eat the cake because it may be demonized! LOL

  Another funny thing...I just found out my daughters (who are 6 and 3) are invited to ceremony and reception and will attend with their aunt. (This is their mother's weekend with them so they must have talked to her about it). These people never seize to amaze me! Atleast the girls get to go and have a good time, none of what's going is their fault anyway.

  carla - I think that's one aspect witnesses tend to overlook. Money at times, is exactly that, money!

  yknot - I understand what you mean. It's better than nothing right, just attending the ceremony? You may be right, although I wish the situation were different. And a new sister I dont know...she doesn't like me very much!

  The funny thing is we never received an invitation or anything to let us know about the wedding. If I hadn't talked to him about my decision, I dont think we would have ever known. He did however ask if we could help them and pay for the wedding cake. I did, even though it will be a cake I never get to taste.

  That's the story of me and my brother though. We are seven years apart and never really developed that close relationship you would normally share with siblings, but he does usually contact me when he needs something. And if it's my power, I usually do help him out, well because he's my brother.

  I don't know. Just feeling a certain type of way for this special day for my brother, which I'm not a part of...

  almost lost my hubby last year to illness so i've had limited time on the computer and just tended to log on to do the quiz.

  firstly some background.. when i was 21 i went to live in sydney and left my congregation in tasmania.

  until then i had never seen the bad side of the borg.

  being new in town and staying with my non jw sibling i immediately checked in with the local congregation and soon found a fellow witness to share an apartment with.
