Why you put me on here like that, Sylvia? lol
The messed up part is that I could have gone to a highly acclaimed opera performance tonight (what better way to spend a Tuesday evening?). However, my friend told me the wrong date and had me thinking it was tomorrow night instead of tonight and since I have already promised my parents that we will be going as a "family" I turned it down.
This will definitely be the last memorial attendance.

Mind Control Cults
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land ina non-jw pilot friend of mine who doesn't know i was a jw sent me this, with the title "mind control made easy!".
it was eerie to watch this and recognize the similarities.
it could be useful in helping a current jw who has doubts "get out", as it is not produced by an ex-jw.

Faders are indeed a very large doormat
by moshe insorry, to be so blunt- for a whole day i have watched people here patting themselves on the back- we're a large army, oohh, look out wt, we might do something, well not today or tomorrow, but someday!
maybe, i have to just accept that a lot of jw's who are exiting the kh by the back door will never find a backbone to stand up to mummy and elder daddy.. jw's have a learned ability to see themselves in a better light than everyone else sees them.
ask a jw, if they are a charitable religion and they would likely all say they are, but when pressed to name a charity they will be unable to do so.

You are also under the assumption that all faders are on the same level of exiting this religion. Many have their reasons for why they choose to stay in the background and remain silent. There are some, like myself, who are newly fading and still trying to grasp the enormity of truth about the "truth". Others have family in and don't want to sever the ties. Some are just content not being under the radar of the borg. Different strokes for different folks. Instead of assuming a fader has a personal obligation to warn the public, give them a chance to resolve in their mind, heart and soul exactly what and where they wish to be.

"There is never a “passing of the plate” for donations as is common in many churches."
True. The timely donation guilt trip reminders from the platform will suffice.

International Conventions - Have you attended any of them?
by Girlie induring my time in jw, i always had a desire to attend the international conventions, but never had the opportunity to do so because it was always extended to the elite class 1st (pioneers, elders, etc.
) and peons second.
in my congregation, the same pioneer sisters always hogged the opportunity, leaving others to only hope in the day they can go.

Thank you all for your comments and thank you Blondie for providing those links. In hindsight, I can take comfort in knowing that I really didn't miss out on much.

Yes. It was only their Prius model that were recalled for the accelerator issue, right? I prefer a Camery. They have always gotten a good review.

During my time in JW, I always had a desire to attend the international conventions, but never had the opportunity to do so because it was always extended to the elite class 1st (Pioneers, Elders, etc.) and peons second. In my congregation, the same pioneer sisters always hogged the opportunity, leaving others to only hope in the day they can go. Even when the Borg has finally relaxed its standards making it possible for any publisher in good standing to attend, the elite class always seem to get the 1st pickings.
These pioneer sisters did this everytime the call for International Conventions was made. As I discovered, perhaps not all, but some did it just for bragging purposes and to have a one-up on the social status ladder.
So for those who had the opportunity to attend, what was the experience like? Did you find the international friends to be all loving and embracing? And for those in the US who attended, what aspects of the IC were different from a normal DC?

did any body have calls and studies pinched off them
by RosePetal inover the years my hubby and i would auxilliary pionneer and start studies and develope calls that would take magazines regularly and invite us in.
as hubby wasn't a ministerial servant at the time elders ministerial servants and reg pioneers felt they were more worthy to have the studies and calls and would find a way to take them from us.
one ministerial servant told our study who started attending meetings that he should be taking their study and succeeded in taking it over..

It never happened to me, but it did happen to a JW friend of mine. She was close friends with this RP who is mentally unstable and known for her ruthless behavior. They would go on some return visits and conduct bible studies together. My associate found this one study who expressed enthusiasm about her bible studies. The RP went with her on a couple of them and decided to return on this said study on her own and would conduct studies without my friend's knowledge. Eventually, the RP took the study away from my friend and pretty much told her that her status as a RP outranked her ability to keep the study. Pathetic. I never understood nor cared about the whole status thing that goes on in a congregation.
