who were your past circuit overseers?
i'm sure a lot of us actually know mutual people, as the co's relocate all over the country.. here's a few from the southeast us: (let me know if you recognize any names and post yours too please...).

Bro. Farmer (a very nice and gentle guy. His wife rocked some matching hats with her suits)
Bro. George (single CO. Sisters lined up to get him to reconsider his single status)

Bro. Hawkins (who died I believe either last year or 2 years ago. He was very outspoken and ruffled some of the friends feather with some of his comments and speeches. lol)

i wish my grandma was still alive so i could ask her what it was that attracted her to the jws.
she was raised methodist- our family still has a small church in her birthplace, got a degree back when it was rare for black people to do so.
I came in at a vulnerable time in my life. I just graduated from high school and didn't know what to do with myself. I was also dealing with depression and living a somewhat wild lifestyle. I needed some kind of direction. When the jw's came to my home, they were studying with my uncle. The teachings appealed to me, therefore, I entered into it.
Oh, if only there was such a thing as a time machine.......
as i've proclaimed so loudly, my oldest son is getting married next year.
we have a small budget (about $5k) and they want a wedding with three bridesmaids, three groomsmen, and a catered reception.
thus far, my son is going to load his ipod with music.
LOL @ St. Ann. I understand, but when money is tight, sometimes, ya do what ya gotta do.
However, it wasn't my wedding. lol. I had nothing to do with it. Perhaps you may inquire of the club about their catering service, if they have one, and how much it will cost.

I am not married (sniff) but my bro and sil married at a justice of peace and had a nice reception at hall at a local university. Friends brought food and the tables were decorated with modest things like candles, some lace fabrics and personal wrapped party favors. She had a good DJ and all went well. I believe it was under $1000 for the whole affair.
It was a waste of my time.
i've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.
i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.
you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".

this is a thread for anyone who attended the "big" generation watchtower study today to post their experiences/stories.. let's hear some wholesome, upbuilding encouragement from our brothers and sisters out there today!.
I forgot about it. I was invited to a friend's church on that day. I don't think my parents went either. They went to a cookout (thank God).
why the heck does the society have to publish more of the same stuff every single farging assembly???!!!.
as if we don't already have tons of literature already!!!

Funny, I just finished expressing the same sentiment in another post. Too many trees are wasted with them.
after increased pressure from friends and family (many less than spiritual) to get back to the meetings recently, i started wondering how many of them are just plain pissed every time they're sitting in the kh thinking about you siting at home watching csi.. was just wondering about that angle.. 5th.

The meetings have no value to them. It is the same regurgitated drivel thats given at every meeting night. No new material is presented (other then the convoluted generation change) and the message is not of any real appeal to the youth. Go enough times and you can pretty much predict the lessons that are going to be covered. It is no wonder why there is a shortage in meeting attendance.
