As a convert who came in during my late teen years, I thought the meetings were interesting. Then with each passing year and no new light other than the convoluted BS that was passed as illuminating information, it became boring. Towards the end of my time as a JW, I would sit in an empty room of the Hall to be left to my thoughts until it was over and then rush out to avoid talking to any of the "friends". Those meditative moments were what I needed to plan my exit.

Jehovah's witness meetings are NOT BORING......
by punkofnice in...i was told but they usually were as i look back.. as a lad i'd sit and look to see who the lights would fall on.
i'd get an almond and see how long i could suck it before i chewed at it.
i'd imagine playing rock'n'roll on the congregation's piano.. how did you get through the meetings when you were bored?.

Are YOU Totally Out Of The JW Mindset?
by minimus indo you no longer think and react like a jw?.
-
Girlie
A great percentage of my mindset is out of it. There is still the residual guilt factor that comes up, but it passes and I continue on my way.

Were you ever the subject of a ''Local needs'' talk???
by karter inapperantly there was one in my old congro as my neice (baptized ,but inactive) is marring her livein boy freind.. .
anyone going to the weeding wil be publicly reproved..
-
Girlie
I was the subject of one some years ago because of a violation issue that I was publicly reproved for. It was on the need to report a wrong doing if you know of it and not to keep it a secret because of a friendship BS, etc. Didn't think much of it then or now. I also have seen that a married elder in my former congregation (last I heard, he was DF'd for adultery) used the local needs talk to discuss the going ons in his home and to put his wife on the spot.

New simplified Watchtower
by alanv inbeginning with the july 15th 2011 edition of the watchtower, the society are producing a simplified version of the study copy.. this is apparantly for the many people whose first language is not english, and yet they live in a predominantly englsih speaking county.. the normal study edition will still be produced but it looks like the cong.
will be able to ask for a supply of the simplified version each month.. this simplified version can be downloaded from the watchtower site.. http://www.jw.org/index.html.

LOL @ Wasblind.
That just might account for why this year's memorial invitations are short and in "simple" English.

retorts without being snarky...
by undercover inanother in a series of public services for those who have the unenviable task of attending the memorial or any other wt gathering on a rare occasion.... so you're going to the memorial.
it's been a whole year or more since last stepping foot in a kingdom hall.
your going to this meeting probably means that you're going to be with family members who are jw, but understand to some degree your reluctance to come to the hall anymore or have resolved themselves to losing you to armageddon.

"We miss you".
My reply: That's nice to know. I'm still in the area. Just living life each day. (make sure that smile is extra big when you state this)
I agree with OTWO's reply on the "I hope to see more of you soon".
"Cool. I'm still at the same location. Feel free to stop by, but call first, please as I may be out and about".

Does God speak to you? HOW?
by Quentin inan answer to this question is subjective to the individual an a posteriori experiene.
however, can there be an a priori experence, one that is objective, outside the bounds of personel experiene, or does it remain subjective?
god speaks to me, through many venus, except audible.
-
Girlie
God speaks to me through the scriptures, by way of a person with an answer to my question or for comfort when I need it, through his creative works, by intuitively giving me the thoughts and plans I need to accomplish tasks I set forth for myself.

My GF Told Me She Got Invited To Go To Dinner By A Very Nicely Dressed Man
by minimus inget this: she called me up to tell me a well dressed man came to her house and actually invited her for dinner, a "meal" at the local kingdom hall on the memorial evening.. he gave her the invitation to enjoy the meal with him and quite a few other people on the night the "meal" was being served.. i explained to her that the dinner only consisted of wine and unleavened bread and that she could only watch the bread and wine being passed but if she got a hold of the plate or the cup she had to just give it the next person.. she asked, "you mean there's no dinner like he said?
" i answered there was not.
and she said, "then forget it then!"..

What was your most embarassing WTF experience with a fanatical witness??
by Reality79 inwe've all known those fanatical witnesses who are guilty of pdf (public display of faith) and always have to make a big song and dance to the whole world and let everyone and their dog know they're a faithful witness of jay hoover!.
1) when my mother first came in 'da troooof' this wacky, over zealous 'sister' was studying with her - you know the type.
this woman was one of those not so subtle individuals who would always talk loud in conversation and say the name jehovah a million times even when the conversation could have been about basketball.

I remember a former friend telling me about a "sister" that used to work with her at this company. The sister would always preach, but rarely did any work. She would actually sit at her desk during company time and do her studies. If someone approached her about it, she would yell, "This is Jehovah's time!" Of course she was given all the time she needed in service for Jehovah.
I would get embarassed if friends placed literature when we were on vacation together. I would always get the "We're Jehovah's Witnesses 24/7" spiel, but that still didn't prompt me to do it.
