You are right Butterflyleai, but if i remember correctly, they disconnect 'do not be misled' from the world events portion...and use the world events to mean the end is near..making the world events themselves the sign.

Yelp that's were I agree with you. The GB do have a way of twisting the words to fit their interpetation.

Terry and Zoiks if I understand you both correctly, I look at it more like this, have faith and hope til proven wrong. Well I saw enough evidance that JWs are wrong and have been proven guilty of deceiving. Has there been proof that the Bible is wrong, no, and have you seen any harm in living a moral and happy life by using the Bible as a guide, no, so that is what I go by and until God gives us another (scroll or answer) Bible that is all we can rely on that has been with us for centuries to come. The Bible gives us hope and that's all we need to know... if we skip ahead and start predicing it will bring much discouragement. For these things must take place, but the end is not yet.

Actually many JW talks do read verse 4 in light of it being an "apostate" you need to be cautious of, because they are misleading, but I think they are the ones that have mislead many.

However...when you catch up to verse 29 you will see it says AFTER the tribulation of those days the sign would come and the end is near. The Luke parallel of this account even says that when these world conditions occur theend is not here yet. These accounts are warning to stay awake at all times, but also not to be deceived by world events. Rather it will happen when it happens, as a thief in the nite.

But you may have made a point here and it does make sense... I will have to read on that.

I feel marriage should be about love and communication. Treating each other with respect. I had allot in common with this guy that was my age but he was dfed... and because of the stupid elders and fear, it all disappeared. If I wanted to learn my lesson I wanted to learn it through an honest way not a forced way. For parents and grandparents or the so called wise that force (maybe a strong word... pesters) their childern to marry don't be suprised if the marriage fails or the child goes crazy and rebels.

I agree with alot here that age doesn't matter to a degree. I mean look at me, I'm 23 and getting married to a 35 year old. I think I worded things in past post a bet bias way... (said it wrong, mainly cause that struck a nerve from past experience)

Marriage should be about honesty, feeling comfortable and sharing love... a partner, your other half, etc.

Not just on simularities... what looks right... what works in others eyes... or what's convenant... worse yet what will only benifit you and not the other person... but about the spark and the friendship you will have for the rest of your life!!

All this marriage talk makes me miss my man at work. hehe

Need some support

i don't post very often but i'm in need of some support.. i left my husband and the jw's back in the summer.

we have 3 kids and have joint custody of them.. i've spoken to my family once - back in the fall and it was a great conversation - my parents (dad is an elder) said that they just wanted me to be happy however that is.. last week i got a voicemail from my mom saying that she loved me and thought about me every day.

i was so happy.

I second Mad Sweeney!! I already saw your pain and desperation. Just coming here for answers makes you feel like geez this is my last hope... maybe someone will give me answers... or at least understand. You, like Michelle365, and many other... we understand!!

It help to have support! Keep posting and reading other's posts, it helps alot! You will learn alot visiting here and hopefully will come in understanding yourself and what choices will help you in your life...

I agree with Quillsky to a degree... Excuses rather then reasons?? She didn't really elabrate on the detials to determine if they were just exuses and really that's her business.

I take it and give hope... and in light of a thinking that wow.. yeah I made a mistake and my family and ex still like to dangle it over my head where do I turn too! Yeah personally I'm not sure she made the smartest move but when you feel trapped sometime you go to the extreme measures to make a point! A call for help or a sign of I want out!! It defiantly doesn't look good but that is from someone that is looking on the outside of the situation (it's easy to judge when you are a Jehovah Witness but yes even everyone does that even nonJWs).

She knows who she is on the inside and only she can make the choices for her... the support here is that she can come here and find people who have made mistakes but have moved in a positive direction and that, yes, there is more out there then just what the Jehovah's Witness lead us to believe... that they are the only way to righteousness.

Alot of Jehovah's Witnesses are in guilt and shame... and to take a extreme messure they have great fear of being judged... they are lost and some don't have anyone to turn to (they realized they gone to far even in the eyes of a nonJW) so when they come here they are cautious not to be looked at as bad but yes they did do bad they admit (knowing that there is forgiveness out there). For most JW she should know that sleeping with another man is wrong and yes it hurts. But how does the family and ex handle it and how much or little abuse is in the situation? How much is she leaving out? Who knows who she is or what she's done? First we start with a welcoming greating, then we pass on the positive and guidance we were recieved and wish the best in everything... God will be the final judge, that's what I beleive anyways.

Good points have been said here on your post Jen! and I just wanted to give you a hug and say you have support here!

Sorry our ex and family are giving you such a hard time. You sound like a loving mom and just you puring out your feelings like this shows you are a caring person inside. Don't let your family get to you like that, you did what you thought was best at the time and you may have made mistakes but the only true mistake is not learning or understanding why... they only see what is on the outside picture and only judge you on your actions without true understanding. But you know in your heart who you are, never loose that and continue adding to that good person you are inside.

I hope someone can sort of suggest what elements of JW doctrine would result in approval of such a situation.

Two other things contribute to a successful marriage: Christian love and communication. When two people are enamored with each other, there is a tendency to ignore each other’s faults. The couple may enter marriage with exaggerated expectations, perhaps based on what they have read in romance novels or seen in movies. Eventually, however, the couple have to face reality. Then, minor faults or mildly irritating habits may become major problems. If that happens, Christians need to display the fruitage of the spirit, an aspect of which is love. (Galatians 5:22, 23)

So with realistic observation, most muture brothers that have experience or come past their fears(self image) are looked as a potental marriage option and usually are much older around there 30s. Given that most younger women especially spiritual focused women look now for the next step in life a good spiritual husband! This is incouraged and found as a beautiful thing for parents/grandparents to see their daughter marry a spiritually muture brother.

The sad thing is with such a wide age difference it could definately cause problems.

And yes it is true young women do give into marrying older men. I looked at this as grows but I also didn't feel it was right to judge... so I guess to best of luck to the poor young girls out there!

Bluh... I too was pushed or was embarressed by my grandma and mom to look at this way way older guy at my hall just because he was so spiritual! Bluh It just made me feel like I was even more trapped.

it is too easy to get sucked in to the wrong argument at the wrong time.. asking the wrong question leads to the wrong answer.

a wrong answer does nobody any real good.. i once had a heated discussion with an old friend who is still an active jehovah's witness.. he came back at me with this:.

"okay, then--if jehovah's organization is a false religion, where is the true one?
