i have recenly had a conversation with some elders and they told me that i shouldn't listen to music that's heavy,meaning distorder guitar riffs,breakdowns brutal vocals even if the lyrics are positive.secondly they say that we shouldn't read books that mention anything related to "spiritualism" but all of the jws study odyssey,history,ancient greek language at school and all of these subjects refer to the pantheon,heathen stuff etc.my question is:how to can someone abstain from reading these things if he is taught them at school while the elders are informed about it?how music can harm anyone if the lyrics are ok even if the music is fast or heavy or both?.

Set YOUR standards for what you listen to and read.

If you speak to 100 elders, you will get 100 opinions on music.

One may love a certain group, another may think they are the most offensive thing ever.

I posted a thread of lyrics the other day which were positive, hopeful, etc......

I was joking that it sounded like WT teachings - Who wrote the lyrics?

guess who was very well represented in the "religion" section?

i couldnt believe how many of the wtbs books were there.. i wanted to put a warning "leave brain at door" on the shelf.......... i wonder how many jw's donated those free books and took a hefty tax deduction?.

if that is the case, i could probably make a killer tax deduction.....although my conscience would bother me for actually making that dribble available to the public!

i remember once asking a poineer of my aquintence "if it was you on the doorstep would your presentation make you want to listen further?

" she honestly repiled "no".

and i think that most of the jw's i ever worked on the fs with, none of them had good or interesting presentations.

The only thing most JW`s want when they knock on a door,is for nobody to be home..

LOL Outlaw - that is the TRUTH!

I used to pray for someone NOT to answer the door........

Of course, then you could count a "sale" by leaving a couple of magazines in the door!

The best "salespeople" in JW land are the ones who come across sincere and show a personal interest in people.

I know a couple who have brought many people in - they are really kind people and I believe are genuinely interested in the other person. Thus, the attraction.

Most Witnesses couldnt sell a heater in the Arctic Circle since they stammer through their canned presentations so horribly.

Did you read the literature?

initially i suppose i did.

i know i over studied the articles for the wt study because i thought my enthusiasm as a study would make me more accepted.

but after awhile i didnt read the awakes at all except for a cursory glance because i was giving them to people.

No - I didnt have TIME! And then they would make you feel guilty for not reading every WORD of the magazines, even though 90% of the Awake (actually ALL the literature) was complete fluff! Articles on Budapest, how corn is milled, the air speed velocity of an African Swallow, etc.....

Prepare parts, prepare for meetings, prepare for service!

I used to love telling householders "I think you will love this article" when I had no idea what the hell was in it!!

i thought it might be interesting to compile these.

of course every other worldly dictonary will say that the word mean somthing different... but brothers and sisters!

SPIRITUAL = an individual who frequently goes out in the door to door ministry peddling WT literature and attends meetings at the Kingdom Hall regularly, regardless of moral character, criminal activities, or actual faith.
