Only at the beginning, when everything was new to me. In time I started to realize I'm reading the same shit over and over again with different cover, so I skipped more and more until I skipped the whole magazine. The science articles were the last to go, they went when I realized there's little actual science in them, and mostly it's just a pimping of their doctrine disguised as informative articles.

JW's being more "secretive" than usual?

As wobble said, on this forum you find out any new stuff way before the majority of the JWs, there's nothing a JW knows that can truly be a secret. It really is just to make them feel special.

Were You Embarrassed When Someone "at the door" Knew More About the Bible Than You Did?
by BabaYaga init seems i often encountered "householders" who could rattle off examples of the bible contradicting itself or go into a diatribe about the history of the bible.
i never knew what to say... but of course i was trained to "know" we were still "right" regardless of their argument, and i somehow still managed to feel holier than thou and left the door feeling sorry for them (rather than foster any dangerous doubts!).
did you ever feel that someone "at the door" might actually know more about the bible than you did?

Ha, I wish my FS were that interresting as yours BabaYaga. I can't remember one instance when I met someone who actually had deeper Bible knowledge and wanted to talk about it. Most of the time all I got was people complaining about politics, economics, etc. and I had to reassure them that all this will soon end. That may be because of my country's communist background though.

Has anyone tried to prevent ex-spouse from training the kids as JWs?
by Michelle365 ini am at the point in my custody battle where i need to decide if i'm gonna "go for the gold" and bring religion into the fight.
my lawyer thinks i have a chance based on the parental alienation aspect of the religion.
i'm df'd and my kids are being raised to turn against me.

Fortunately I can't give you any first hand advice. However if you decide to bring the religion in, read with your lawyer the booklet entitled "Preparing for Child Custody Cases", published by the WTS to prepare JWs. It's a very special order item, most JWs don't even know about it. I'm sure someone here will be able to provide you with a digital copy.

6/15/10 WT - p. 8, par. 12
by sd-7 in"what else do we learn from the experience of the psalmist?
he found security and wisdom among god's people.
he started reasoning clearly and logically when he went to the place where jehovah was worshipped.

"He started reasoning clearly and logically when he went to the place where Jehovah was worshipped. Similarly today, we can find wise counselors and enjoy wholesome spiritual food at congregation meetings."
Is it just me, or are these two sentences contradicting one another? There's nothing "similar today" in the second sentence. If I go to the place of worship either I'll start reasoning clearly and logically, or I'll start listening to counselors telling me what is clear and logical. You can't have both...

new light over the next 5 years?
by dozy inthe next new light?.
ok a bit of idle speculation here feel free to add your own thoughts.. a few changes that the wts might make over the next 5 years and my odds:.
144,000 is symbolic odds 2/1.

If there is cancellig of a magazine, I think it would be the public Watchtower instead, and merging its contents into the Awake. Then it's a clear cut distinction: Awake for public, Watchtower for the hardcore.
I say this because in the public's eyes Awake is the more interresting magazine. In my FS I heard several times people say that they read the Awake, but the Watchtower not so much.

They could sidestep the issue of 144.000 as symbolic by saying there always were "other sheep" even in the first century, that would allow them to almost completely fill up the numbers just in the modern days. If 1935 wasn't a seal on the annointed, then it wasn't a door on the "other sheep" either, was it?

What is Truth?
by AK - Jeff inif one 'googles' the phrase, you get 167,000,000 hits!.
'bing' it, and you get 129,000,000 hits.. here is a sampling of opinion from just the first page of google hits.. 1] douglas groothuis, ph.d., teaches philosophy at denver seminary.
here is his 'take' on truth: http://www.leaderu.com/theology/groothuis-truth.html.

I have pondered on the meaning of what "Truth" in fact means for a JW. They are well aware that the teachings have changed, often radically, so by no means can it be called truth. I have come to the conclusion that the JW definition of Truth is very simple: anything the GB says right now.

The ads are just the ones from Google adsense, not controlable, like on this site. It picks up on some keywords and gives relevant ads. It doesn't make it an apostate site, though if the owner is a hardcore JW he should have did something about it.
Still, Bethel Tours? Now that's something I didn't thought I'd see. What next? Coupons for 50% off of the Watchtower subscription?
Hotspur, I trust you know I was joking The site is indeed horrible.
