Theocracy more often than not sounds a lot like dictatorship. And not from God either...

Cognitive disonence at work...?
by Aussie Oz ini was watching a documentary the other week on a notorious crime boss from the 50s into the 80s.. one part of the story was from his son (by his wife) and the other from his daughter (by his mistress).. what struck me was that the daughter was totally unable to see that her 'daddy' was some sort of criminal.
no matter what evidence there was from media, courts and witnesses to the cruel deeds of this man.. her half brother was simply lying for some reasons only known to him, some hidden agenda she did not know.. because she had only ever seen and experienced his loving side, it was not possible for her to consider anything else.. this got me thinking:.
if a jw has only ever seen and experienced loving elders, guidance and a really happy jw upbringing, only known the 'good side' (and i am sure there are quite a few that have had charmed lives) then it will impossible for them to even conceive the notion that there is a 'bad side'.. on the flip side, if a jw has only experienced hitler elders, abuse and seen only double standards and lies, then they too will be unable to see the 'good side' for want of a better word.

New evidence 75,000 years ago a Supervolcano caused mass human and animal extinction...but no evidence for a global flood. Why?
by Witness 007 inlake toba indonisia is a huge volcano which four independant groups {volcano, genetic, ocean, climate, scientists} have confimed caused a "bottlekneck in human evolution.
" the ash cloud reached thousands of miles away, and caused a massive ice age, killing 60% of the 60 million people on earth.
it took thousands of years for plant and animal life to return to normal.

Sadly there is no evidence of a global Noah's flood just afew thousand years ago.......why?
That damned Satan destroyed all evidence and planted fake ones to mislead you. I thought it's common knowledge...
Edit: Wikipedia has an article about the volcano: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toba_catastrophe_theory but for humans it only mentions they were reduced to 10,000 or even 1,000 breeding pairs.

There are hundreds of thousands of users all over the world, who have a couch free waiting just for you to occupy it, while you get to know his culture, his town in a much better way than any travel agent could show you. You can also offer your couch to other users.
Why is this good? Because we as JWs (just generalizing here, forgive me) have very little knowledge of the real world. I just read this thread: Bad Associations are the Best!! and thought how little do we actually know about 'worldlies'. Participating will most certainly help you expand your cultural horizon and learn to accept differences - invaluable for social retards like myself. Not to mention (almost) free vacation
I have just created a user on the site so far, haven't tried it out in fullest, but I think it's a very good idea. There are several layers of security if you are apprehensive, and reading some comments people most of the time have positive experience, with very small incidents of scam or such. Which also goes to prove just how bad those 'wordlies' really are.

What does a 10-year-old "minister" say about a religion?
by OnTheWayOut instealing a line from bill mahr, if a jw boy can become a baptized servant of god and qualify to be a "minister" .... ... "what do you think it says about religion and how serious it is if you can be a minister when you're 10?
".

When I was baptized a married couple god dunked too. They had a 6 year old, who was adamant, that he wants to be baptized too. Fortunately the parents didn't let him. It was obvious he wanted to do what the grown ups do. Now 10 years later he's still not baptized, and even though I haven't met him for a while I wouldn't be surprised if he never did. He looks like a healthy teenager, not the JW zombie one at all.

The BEST way to deal with elders......to maybe even get them to 'think'
by EndofMysteries inthose who leave because of conscious, want to serve god and see how so many things going against the scriptures vs lost faith in everything and not gonna bother trying to figure out what to do.
( i say this because those of the 2nd group, won't ever get w/ anyone who are 100% convinced in the truth and mental blocks are way up, any who don't believe anything, what they have to say is not even worth considering to them ).
i truly am for conscience reasons, and am experiencing an enlightenment that i can't even describe or try to teach, one must just go through it to understand.

Bane I think you may have some masochistic tendencies. This is not mockery of you, but it's the only honest explanation I can give. You clearly hate this site, yet keep coming back. Usually apologists either think that this site has some redeeming qualities, and think that with some they can argue and maybe even "bring back to light" (AIW comes in mind, or for older posters, Angel Eyes), or if they only see hatred and mockings, they leave immediately. Yet you seem to do none...
An other explanation that just came to my mind would be that maybe you live in a zone where the preaching work goes excellent, and you see no persecution. But because there must be persecution, you come here for your daily dose.

Are they right abt anything?
by Newborn ini'm doubting that the jw's are right about any of their interpretations of the bible???.
maybe it's all wrong!!??
cause, who can ever really know the truth about anything?.

Lol Gladiator, well if you put it that way... and the canon is not accepted by all christian denominations, which further complicates things.

Australian brothers VERY negative comments regarding new "generations" ... some leaving Bethel..will this blow up in the Watchtowers face?
by Witness 007 ina brother i spoke with from bethel to me seemed discouraged and lacking zeal latley...he spoke of leaving which shocked me since he was there for decades...he left to get a full time job!!!
it was his whole reason for living since i've known him!
others have said the new doctrine of "blended generations" of anionted seeing armagedon is "confusing" or "i just don't get it"...one brother my only close friend is furious and said i qoute..."they seem to be blowing smoke up our ass!
-

Nah AIW, we don't hope for a fallout because of change, JW doctrine change almost as often as others change underwear. We hope for fallout because the generation explanation is plain and simple BS. It is not backed up by anything neither in Bible nor common sense or dictionaries.
The rest of your post is just a sad attempt to derail the topic, so I hope you don't mind if I just ignore it.

Peer Pressure - the WTS Greatest Weapon
by hillary_step inin my early years of questioning wts theology and methodology in the late 70s', i was entirely on my own.
i knew that something was seriously wrong with their doctrines, but there was no internet, no discussion groups, and in my particular area of the uk, no listening ear.
in fact everybody seemed so pleasantly in love with the truth and so drawn along by collective enthusiasm that i seriously began to question my own attitudes.. sometimes i would wonder if i had gone quite mad, lost god's spirit, or had accomplished some dark deed in my past, that unknown to me was stripping me of my faith.

This thread is 8 years old. Did anyone in the meantime happened to obtain a copy of the Writers guideline book this thread mentioned?
