OMG lol thank you, you gave me a good topic of discussion when a JW will stop me next How did we all miss that context there? They identify themselves with the ones Jehovah will destroy...

Would you invite Jehovah to a party?
by JimmyPage ini think he would be a real buzzkill.
for example, if someone were fornicating upstairs, he'd probably want to annihilate them with fire.
or if someone were tapping the keg too much he'd want to take them to the back room and give them some strong counsel.

I think not... you know my house is quite small to invite an infinite being. Even if he would somehow squeeze in, I doubt the other guests would have any room left.

"...tax laws can be used to supress one religion..."? Huh? Their economy was really that bad that if they get taxed they dissapear? That's what they insinuate here...
And again, I'm with Mad Sweeney. How does freedom of worship come into discussion? That herring is too ugly, take it away. You're free to worship anyone you choose, but why should I pay for you? Yes, provide some real community service, then we can talk about it.

Out and feeling lost, with no friends? Have faith! (my uplifting experience :D)
by teel inmaybe not many of you remember my anguish through the last year since i joined jwn.
in the meantime i lost my wife (the official divorce is due in ~two weeks), lost all my friends (thank god no family though, except the wife), battled the wts and sort-of lost.
just like most of you when you got through this experience i was lost and confused, coult not found my place in life.. i owe much gratitude to this board for giving me the much needed information and support that i am not alone, and what i'm feeling is not something unusual.

Maybe not many of you remember my anguish through the last year since I joined JWN. In the meantime I lost my wife (the official divorce is due in ~two weeks), lost all my friends (thank God no family though, except the wife), battled the WTS and sort-of lost. Just like most of you when you got through this experience I was lost and confused, coult not found my place in life.
I owe much gratitude to this board for giving me the much needed information and support that I am not alone, and what I'm feeling is not something unusual. However what actually happened after that was really unexpected for me. Just as everything seemed lost, new friendships started to emerge, from the most unexpected sources. I could not have planned it better for the life of me.
Generally these people don't know anything about what they actually did to me. They were the key for freeing me completely from the clutches of the Society. I am still sad about the loss I have suffered for the sake of a cult, but I feel I have stepped forward from that infamous state of ex-JW marked by bitterness and need for vengeance, to the blissful state of ex-ex-JW, where I can relate my experience to anyone, help people, but with a more lucid mind (imo).
So what is "uplifting" about this? I somewhat doubt those people came by some divine guidance. People need friends. I have not fully realized this until now. Just like me, they were also looking for a friend - even if they did not know about it. If you are like me, feeling lost in a strange world, know that there are people out there looking for someone just like you to be their friend.

Today's my birthday and I anti-witnessed to my co-workers! Can I count my time?
by QuestioningEverything inmy co-workers brought me flowers and a cake.
i was also able to anti-witness to them about the jw's.
it feels good sharing with others the real reasons why i never celebrated my b-day.

For those who saw flaws in Watchtower doctrine and left. Why do you not apply the same standard of examination to your current beliefs?
by nicolaou ini know that many left because of a lack of real love or for other personal reasons.
i would never belittle those reasons for exiting, they are as valid as any other, but if that describes your situation then perhaps this topic might not apply so much to you.. i left the watchtower because i came to realise the doctrine was flawed.
i was in my mid 30's before my mind begin waking up and i started to develop basic critical thinking abilities.

I do apply constantly. And regarding how come I still have faith, it's simple really: because they're my beliefs Noone forced them on me, they're not so rigid, and I'm not claiming I'm right. It is just what I gathered from my personal experience.
If I were to say this to a JW, I would show a big attack target: "Oh, so you cherry pick what to believe and what not?" Yeah... so? The GB does exactly the same... except they have the gall to force them on others.

So whats this Kool Aid stuff all about?
by Joliette inthe kool aid editions of the watchtower...is it pretty much every edition now?
lol..

And for newbies or those who haven't heard it before, here's from wikipedia:
"Drinking the Kool-Aid" means becoming a firm believer in something: accepting an argument or philosophy wholeheartedly or blindly. The term originated with the Jonestown Massacre, where members of the Peoples Temple were said to have committed suicide by drinking Kool-Aid laced with cyanide.

Lol I liked that WT & Awake song, funny stuff. It uses a technique similar to the WT: they lead you to think about something, then switch to something else, so they can deny they ever said it.

I got to thinking about this today.
by MrFreeze ini was taking a long, long car ride today and of course all that time you get to thinking.
i thought about this.
when it comes to jw's dating, they always have to have a chaperone there.

Sweet, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to avoid those things... some people are stupid, what can you do? Of course there's the occasional accident, but that's the minority. Most of the times those problems you listed show up because of one single reason: people ignore the huge warnings to practice safe sex. Not to mention JWs don't get any sex education that's worth mentioning, so they are the prime target for exactly those problems.

"are you a jehovah?"
by sweet ini love it when i hear people ask jws "are you a jehovah?
" i silently laugh and say to myself "nope, they are not god.
they are as human as you and i are.
-
teel
To outsiders saying 'jehovahs witnesses' is no different than saying the Lutherans, Catholics, Baptists, etc...
Saying "he's a jehovah" is like saying "he's a Luther", "he's a kath'holou" (needed wikipedia help for this one); or "he's a baptism"...
People know the full name is Jehovah's Witnesses, so even if they know absolutely nothing about who Jehovah is, it's obvious it's not them.
