Congratulations, purps, it is amazing, when we didn't expect to see 18, then we didn't expect to see 21, then surely it would end by 30. And finally we find out that all that time we were just being fed a lie and we can really begin to live out the rest of our years. Hope the rest of your years are blessed with good health, abundance, and peace.

What do you think about David Letterman now?
by asilentone ini am sure all of you know about it by now..

He did a courageous thing confessing this on national tv. However, if everyone was a willing participant and it was consensual, then really its his own business and of course now his wife's. Everyone is so quick to judge, but you never know what you'd do in someone else's position. I hope he work sit out. It's not like he was a clergyman or some sort of role model or something, the man was a comedian on late night tv. I hope he keeps his job.

Halloween
by wantstoleave ini live in a country where this isn't typically a big event, and only in recent years have more started doing the whole 'trick or treat' thing.
however, i have been invited to a halloween party.
i've never participated in it before.. problem is this: i am still scared of my parents, they are a big part of my life, and know most of everything i do.

Just to clarify what someone wrote, no pagan that I know "worships" the dead. There are so many lies and misconceptions about pagans because of what people are programmed into believing by churches including JWs. Nor do they worship the devil. A very minute sub-culture, called Satanists, believe in Satan. The rest don't even believe in him, he is a construct of Jewish/Christian theology.
On Samhain, pagans believe that the veils are thin between the world we live in, and the spirit world, or the summerland. At that time, oftentimes you can feel closer to a deceased loved one, or some claim to talk to them, I've never known anyone who did, but I know there are those that do. There is no worship involved, but there is honor. Its kind of a combined holiday for pagans, half Pagan new year, because the circle of the year begins in the fall for us, and its half akin to Memorial Day although we are remembering all lost loved ones and ancestors and not just military.
I'm only trying to communicate some of this to you all, not all of it is my own, but I nevertheless expect to be flamed.

What do Yankees know about the South?
by undercover in1. what was the largest city in the south ( of the states that later made up the confederacy) in 1860?.
2. what was the worst maritime disaster in the south's (and america's) history?.
3. what city was the original capital of the confederacy?.
-
AdaMakawee
Define Yankee, please. My definition is north of the Mason Dixon, and east of the Mississippi. I have lived on the west coast all my life and I don't consider myself either one. Yankees are very distinct from the folks out west.

Convention 2009 - My best friend gets "love bombed" back in the "truth" and his sad SMS!!!!
by Witness 007 ini was so happy when my best friend {a witness} since childhood tells me he has doubts about the org.
and how brothers are "two faced" and the "false prophecies", and how he "needs a woman soon or he'll visit a brothel".... he had not gone to meetings for months and his mum blamed me although he didn't need much convincing.
well we went to the convention to please family and he enjoyed the lavish attention he got from so many "loving" brothers.

Sometimes you have to go back to really fully understand how horrible it is. Myself and several people I know did this. We sort of left, the first time, meaning that we left but still carried the worry, big-A dread, and guilt. So we got love-bombed back or we went back because we thought we had to for some reason. Every one of us is back out, took us various amounts of time I'll grant you, but the second time back when your eyes and mind is partially open, is when you really start to see the flaws and the fakes.
So, by going back in, your friend might actually be able to come all the way out this time without carrying so much of the "stuff." Be patient with him.
Also, the love bombing is totally different if you are a woman. *bleh*

If you pray, do you say 'Jehovah'...?
by wantstoleave injust wondering of those that pray and who have left the organisation, do you still address god as jehovah?.
i think i'm currently in that awkward stage where i'm neither in or out, yet don't feel i should even address, or have the right, to talk to god (jehovah) until i decide where i sit.
so i'm wondering if it's hypocritical to pray and use his name.
-
AdaMakawee
Nope I don't call Her Jehovah.

Oh yea. Anyone that has been disfellowshipped can tell you, they watch you like a hawk when you come back. I had been out for quite a few years and went back, after marrying "worldly," did the elders meeting to fess up all of my sins. They chose not to df me at the time due to several factors, one being the coup it would be to convert my well known cop husband. Nevertheless I was always under scrutiny. Never invited to gatherings, look up during the meeting to see one of them watching me with that look on their face, you know the one, how long will it take her.
My only complaint about it is that they didn't drive me out sooner.

Polanski deserves everything he gets and no amount of "talent" will ever change him from what he is, a pedophile.
To answer the question:
I'm not sure what that means: does that make sex between a 17- and a 18-year old a crime?
A friend of mine from Washington state's son was arrested on his 18th birthday for consensual sex with his girlfriend, 17. Statutory rape, didn't matter to them that he was not 18 at the time of the sexual contact. He is forever labeled a level 1 sex offender in the state because his girlfriend's mom didn't like him and called authorities. Girlfriend testified in his behalf, it didn't matter.
Now, thats rare, and I don't want to hi-jack avishai's thread but I wanted to answer you.
