I tip my hat off to you. Its funny reading your post, cuz I go to the hall and about 50% if not more in there, I could care less about. When you think about it, its ironic cuz you can be in a congregation your whole life hearing all that jazz about love, and then one day realize that when your not at the hall, you don't miss them. When your out of town, you never think about them. When your sick, they don't call you, nor do you call them. Its as if they're dead in the same sense Fredo was to Pacino. I'm happy for you moving on though. Happy your surgery was successful, and you got to communicate with your family on your terms. Wish you the best.

Finally Erased them OUT of my phone!
by babygirl30 init's been about going on 2yrs that i've been df'd and not even 1yr that i stopped going to the khall at all...but...i'm proud to say that as of last night i was going through my phone and decided that i needed to just cut out all those people that didn't matter anymore!
you know, the old jw 'friends' (use that term loosely) whose numbers i've held onto all this time and don't need anymore.
i mean, never going to bother with these people again.

I checked out Wikipedia which is isnt the most credible site for accurate information, but it at least gets you in the ballpark. Its amazing, the huge amount of interpretations regarding this Number of the Beast. The part that gets me is, the WT's view is listed, and although being a born-in, I find that the WT's view of this subject, is one of the interpretations that makes the lease sense to me.

QFR: Should marriages be arranged for true Christians in the congregation?
by sd-7 inin many cultures, arranged marriages are a common practice.
often this involves the parents of both parties making specific arrangements for their children to marry upon reaching a certain age.
sometimes there is money or property given to the parents of the bride as compensation for the loss of her efforts in the household.

LOL......I just got home from a lil shopping. I was in Target and noticed a young couple holding hands and I thought about whether or not you got around to writing this. I am not disappointed. Classic. If I was in the Writing Department, I'd be furious. I'd call you a biter.

Pot Calling the Kettle Black
by babygirl30 inreading another post on here about 'association' and how home jws brag about their accomplishments and how spiritually great they are, yet their lives are bull-ish and the 'fruit' they produce is fake as hell:.
a couple in my cong where the husband was gunning for 'elder' over the years and the wife regular pioneered.
he doesn't work claiming he is disabled (yet he can play basketball with the brothers every week) and has no pride - he will ask for money outright for whatever necessity they have.

One thing I've noticed in our "circuit"......ones that are used for interviews, soliloquys, or dramas, etc., its almost a given that a certain percentage of them will be on reproof or disfelloshipped within a year. Its like the Madden Curse. Every Circuit Assembly I say to myself, who will be in trouble within the next 6 months. Sure enough, I end up running into someone, somewhere in public and go to say hello, and they semi-whisper, "I'm disfellowshipped." Then they walk away real fast with their head low. The hypocritical part about it all is, those that are used for Assembly programs are supposed to be exemplary as individuals, or their families are to be so. Meanwhile the people in their congregations know better.
As a teenager, I loved sitting back and watching ones I knew get interviewed. They would go on and on about their struggles at school dealing with being different during holidays, the tempation of dating worldly boys or girls, or God forbid.....organized sports. Meanwhile the rest of the teens in the audience knew better. We knew the person getting interviewed was cussing, drinking, messing with the opposite sex ( a couple were messing with the same sex), hanging with "bad association" at every oppurtunity.

"Do not become unevenly yoked"--weird comment at meeting
by sd-7 ini heard a really bizarre comment at one of the recent meetings.
someone, in quoting this scripture, of course went with the usual doctrine of not marrying/dating someone who is not a jw.
but one woman took it even further, by saying that this applied even to people inside the congregation who 'weren't spiritual enough' or didn't have some magnificent spiritual goals in life.

Since these people feel they are 'matchmakers', why don't they appoint a panel of elders/eldresses in each congregation to decide who should marry whom?
And it doesn't matter how old the couple is. They could be 18 or 65. It doesn't matter. They have to pass inspection by the panel and only then can they be married. If they rate higher than a certain grade then they can be married in the kingdom hall. Otherwise, they have to get married in a justice of the peace. The prospective marriage mates should submit his/her theocratic resume to this panel and wait to be interviewed. And then they will be told if they pass or fail. If they fail, they cannot marry. If they disobey, they are subject to lifetime shunning.
Seriously, however, the religion instills more barriers and walls inside of their so-called brotherhood. It is so much so that the average person in any given hall must be paranoid about who their 'real' brothers are.
If it wasn't so sad I would actually laugh.
I wouldnt be surprised if you see this happen someday. I could have sworn either in the Young People Ask book, or another older WT magazine, there was an article that spoke positively of arranged marriages. We know how much our Clergy class , err the GB loves the Mosaic Law and especially the punishments for erring against it. I can see them sitting in a room debating how biblical it would be to institute marriage by committee. I'd love to see SD-7 do an article on this.
Billy-I wonder if this "one woman" has any idea how difficult it is becoming for single dubs to find ANYBODY in the bOrg that draws a spark.
Last night after the meeting, I noticed we have several single sisters. These are adult women who if not JWs would probably be dating or married by now. Half of them are Pioneers. I would never ask, but knowing their personalities I can see them using the convenient excuse of not having time for dating as they're putting spirtual persuits first by pioneering. Its a good coverup, but the reality is most of em are craving a husband. The part thats ironic to me is, there is a woman in our congregation who is seriously dating, but she and the guy she's dating both have one foot in and the other foot out. I see them both fading in due time. I wouldnt be surprised if one or both of them are posting on here. But its gotta be rough on those who want to get married or date really bad but due to this toxic culture within this organization cant. I say to myself if normal people who are not JW have troubles with dating and marriage, you would have to expect it would be ten times worse for active JWs.

Did you read the literature?
by WuzLovesDubs ininitially i suppose i did.
i know i over studied the articles for the wt study because i thought my enthusiasm as a study would make me more accepted.
but after awhile i didnt read the awakes at all except for a cursory glance because i was giving them to people.

I don't think most dubs "really" read the magazines. Most probably just breeze through them, which I do as well. I've found myself occasionally in conversations acknowledging that I've read something when the reality is, I haven't.
Sitting in a car group doing RVs.....
Pious Dub: Did you read the article on snow peas. It was fascinating!!
Misery: Yes!! Oh I loved it!!
Pious Dub: So much for evolution! LOL
Misery : Fake LOL while trying not to grimace and pressing the gas pedal, thinking to myself, "why didnt I purchase a Toyota"
Before I started waking up to the truth about "the truth", I was thinking, why do they keep putting out all these books. Every convention when they announce the latest publications, I clap and nod, and then say to myself, "I haven't read the last three books." If not for the Congregation Book Study or the WT study, I wouldnt have read any of their latest books.
To be honest and fair though, I have to admit to reading the Insight Books regularly. I actually like reading them. I've purchased a few books focusing on early Christian beliefs, and books on different interpretation of scripture. I like comparing the different trains of thought between the WTS and other sources.

***Worship God 2002
wt chap. 10 p. 99 par. 16 A Kingdom "That Will Never Be Brought to Ruin" ***After the abyssing of Satan and his demons, Jesus Christ and his 144,000 joint heirs will rule as kings and priests for the thousand years. (Revelation 20:6) During that period, mankind will be brought to perfection, with sin and Adamic death forever eliminated. At the end of the Thousand Year Reign, having successfully carried out his assignment as Messianic King-Priest, Jesus "hands over the kingdom" to his Father, "that God may be all things to everyone." (1 Corinthians 15:24-28) At that point, Satan is released for a little while to test redeemed humankind as to their support of Jehovah’s universal sovereignty. After that final test is complete, Jehovah will destroy Satan and the rebels who sided with him. (Revelation 20:7-10) Those who upheld Jehovah’s sovereignty—his right to rule—will have fully demonstrated their unswerving loyalty. They will then be brought into their proper relationship with Jehovah, being accepted by him as his sons and daughters, divinely approved for everlasting life.—Romans 8:21.
This is one of the core teachings I've always had difficulty accepting. I say to myself cynically, "so let me get this straight"..............
The first human pair sinned against God willfully disobeying Him after being decieved by rebellious spirit who took the form of a serpent. So God in His wisdom initiated a course of events that would redeem mankind. So for thousands upon thousands of years, the human race has been undergoing trials and tribulations. Wars, violence, sickness, natural disasters, etc.. If you can think of something messed up, chances are somebody on this Earth has done it. There's nothing screwed up that hasnt been achieved. However, God's purpose was and is still in motion. Through the course of all that time, God had chosen a certain population of the Earth as His chosen people based on the friendship He had with their forefather. Everybody else living then pretty much sucked I guess? Through that people, and that people only, God's Son would arrive and with His death and resurection, He would be a propitiatory sacrifice for all of mankind. However.......there's a hitch......only 144,000 people out of the billions upon billions who have lived and died throughout the thousands of years of mankind's existance, would experience the immediate benefits of that sacrifice upon their death. Their hope is heavenly. Everybody else is chopped liver.
The rest of the human population would go on as normal......, live, suffer, die, and if God through his Son saw fit, He'd bring them back to life.....on the Earth. Then afterwards God's Son would direct mankind to tear down all that mankind had built for the previous thousands upon thousands of years, and restore the Earth back to a paradise condition as God originally intended. This would take a thousand years. During that process, humans will be brought into alignment with God's thinking, His way. After all that is said and done, after a thousand years, which proceeds the previous thousands upon thousands of years.......Satan is let loose again, but only for a little while. Which is something else that bothers me. The coming end of this system of things has been a little while for the past 2000 years. Which proceded several thousand years .So Satan is let loose again for this "little while", and it starts all....... over.......... again.
I cant help but think there is something missing? Or something is twisted. I'd be willing to live with a simple, "we don't know", but the WTS isn't willing to concede that much. Nope, just wait on Jehovah to turn the lamp a little brighter despite the fact you've got this nagging feeling you need to get a new electrical outlet. In the meantime, don't forget that your salvation doesnt rest upon Christ's sacrafice and your faith in it, rather it rests on your association with several peculiar Medicare aged men in New York. Does any of it make any sense?

How Involved Would You Get If You Saw Somebody Being Mistreated?
by minimus inwe live in a world where people do not want to get involved.
if they see a domestic abuse, they walk the other way.
if they see signs of neglect or abuse, many just go on with their business.. would you get involved with a situation, even if you might get caught in a crossfire yourself?.
-
miseryloveselders
Domestic situations make me conflicted. I was always taught from a young age, that you don't get involved with that. I've never personally been in a situation where I've witnessed some guy beating his girl, or wife, and hope I never will. Between my own father telling me not to get involved, and other guys telling me this as I was growing up, and now coming into my own as a man...I'm conflicted because I don't 100% agree with standing back and doing nothing. I feel like its a duty to help some woman when that happens, but at the same time, most women will go back to the guy beating her. If you start defending her physically , she'll defend him. Catch 22. I purposely avoid people like that in general when I can. I look at Ron Goldman, and think he'd still be alive had he stayed away from Nicole, because its a similar situation. But he wanted to play hero, and the results ended otherwise. Heck, watch the average episode of Cops and its the same thing with some guy in a wife-beater with ravioli stains who shoved his woman down the steps, and when the cops come, she ends up defending him. Or when he gets out of county, she goes right back to him.
MrsJones, that situation on Youtube is crazy, cuz that was security standing around doing nothing right? I thought it came out that was their policy though? When I was in high school, I saw about 15 dudes catch a rival by himself, and i felt bad for the kid. The guys were debating which one of them would hit him first. Eventually one of em just clocked him, then they stomped him out. Looking back on it, as an adult, would I do something now? Probably not, cuz thats the lifestyle the victim chose. Beside what could I do? That same year as a teenager, we had a bad snowstorm, and they let us out of school early, and they started throwing snowballs at the cars going by. This huge 18 wheeler comes along, and the driver, big burly Grizzly Adams looking fellow got out and decided he was going to put an end to the madness. He got out, and said some words. Within seconds, a snowball hit him in the eye. Then the snowballs started coming like bullets. He promptly got in his truck and got out of there. It was actually kind of hilarious. Had he actually walked away from the truck and walked over to those throwing the snowballs, he would have gotten a lot worse.

And if a pregnant woman can do it(like this year) I have to question why it's even called a sport...or how it got in the olympics.
I didnt know that. Hilarious. I hate the Olympics. I would turn on MSNBC expecting some good news documentaries, and see that idiot Ohno. This time of the year kind of sucks. Once the NFL season is over, I get into the NBA, but I have to say, nothing makes up for the loss of the NFL season. I wonder if the apathy I and others have towards the Olympics is an American thing, kind of like apathy towards Soccer.
