"Do not become unevenly yoked"--weird comment at meeting

I heard a really bizarre comment at one of the recent meetings. Someone, in quoting this scripture, of course went with the usual doctrine of not marrying/dating someone who is not a JW. But one woman took it even further, by saying that this applied even to people INSIDE the congregation who 'weren't spiritual enough' or didn't have some magnificent spiritual goals in life. But the scripture says UNBELIEVERS, so how can you apply it to BELIEVERS because they don't happen to want to pioneer or something?

Of course. Like everything else, it applies "in principle". Using that logic, you really could justify anything. Just another example of why I see no need to just go along with this religion.

I would, if I really had to. But I don't anymore. I never really went along with much of the Borg Collective laughter/applause/etc. that so often happens at meetings. So...now I just engage in criticism of the organization because I have no [poisoned] spiritual food of my own to provide.

JWS during the meetings come out sometimes with inappropriate and inaccurate comments,

mostly out of wanting to show THEIR spiritual strength in front of the congregation.

Another control mechanism. How many times have you heard it before? They are always doing that, saying there is bad association in the congo.

Those who are uber JW's are virtually locked out of associating with anyone. Only if your are a pio/elder/MAYBE an MS will you get an invite to associate with an uber JW. Then if you do have the "privilege" of hanging with them for a few hours, you will want to hang yourself 15 minutes in as they brag about their theocratic resume.

They hammer this into young ones a lot to try to keep them single and employed with WT Inc. Not that its nearly impossible for some sister to get married, now she has to hold some poor guy to the ridiculous standard of being a gainfully employed pioneeer/elder/RBC volunteer/good speaker/spiritually minded man. Anything less and you don't qualify as being 'spiritual enough'

There was one of the ANOINTED in a congregation that I visited ... She was one of the 144,000 ... and she got the answer to one of the Watchtower questions wrong. How is that possible?!

Why whatever do you mean, LostGeneration? There are no cliques in God's organization! Ha ha! Had to say it.

On the off chance that I used to go to meetings with my wife just to give her a little company, whenever someone made a bone-head comment like this, I'd give her the "look" that basically implied that that was the most stupid thing I've ever heard.

She would clearly be embarassed by comments like this and would try to explain them away on the ride home.

The WTS does that with 1 Cor. 15:33; applies it to some people at the KH being bad association.

*** w04 4/1 p. 13 par. 13 Resist the Spirit of a Changing World ***The Bible wisely admonishes us: "Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits." (1 Corinthians 15:33) Bad associations can involve anything or anyone—even within the congregation—reflecting the spirit of the world.
