According to Wikipedia, he was born 7/3/1938. He's over 70. I remember being a kid and going the first time I saw him on Bloodsport. Saw Enter the Dragon afterwards. Biggest Asian dude I've ever seen. He was solid back then. He swimmed from China to Hong Cong when he was younger. Guess it paid off for him.

Hey Doublelife, I hope you find something. At least you're not hanging around waiting for it to get better like some people I know. Getting proactive is the first step. My resume doesn't havent anything related to the JW background, but a couple places where I applied for positions had questions related to volunteer service. I stated I did community service related to the church I attend. Granted, it was Field Circus, but there's been a couple times I genuinely felt like I helped some people out with a Bible, so I didnt feel too guilty by labeling it community service. The job I have now I actually love. Life would perfect if I could drop my religion and go marry a worldly girl, but prior to getting to this point, I hated my job. As I started feeling out the company I'm working for, a couple higher ups caught wind of my disatisfaction, and they offered me positions related to training. At first I couldn't understand it, but I have to give credit where its due, its the JW background. Not to toot my own horn, but I can speak in front of an audience. When dealing with group related projects, people almost expect of me to take the lead, even when their educational background trumps mine. Fortunately I got a position within the same company that I now love. As much as I'm learning to hate this religion, I have to give it some credit in some areas.
But again, I hope you find something better. You're in the medical field I take it, it seems like things tend to pick up around June when companies make changes insurance related. Seems like physician's offices should get a little extra action around that time.

Why I'm going to burn in Hell for eternity.
by Open mind inyou must love me.. .
and if you don't, i'll kill you.
(or, as perry often emphasises, eternal non-existence isn't enough to balance the scales of god's justice, so i'll roast for eternity.).

Most Annoying Things That Happen At JW Meetings
by LittleSister intoday i was remembering how angry i used to get at the meetings and all the little irritations that in the end would just make my blood boil these included:.
prayers that go on foreverstudy or wt conductors still taking comments when its clear that the point has been covered 20 times alreadymeetings over running by more than 5 minsmy favourite was this one elder who would play guess the point i am thinking of.
he would keep rephrasing the question from the wt until someone would bring up the point he was thinking of.

JW's being asked not to marry?
by life is to short inok another poster just went to the two day assembly and i just went to the one day special assembly day sunday.
at both of them it seems there was strong words against getting married.
they had on the stage a group of young men about three of them an older sister who is not that attractive but she is really nice, of course not brother would give her the time of day, and this older brother who is in his 60's and nice but very strange.. they all went on and on and on about not getting married.

personally speaking, I don't believe JWs should have children anyway. It amounts to cruel and unusual punishment to raise children in this cancer of a religion. A whole generation of youth on antidepressants and bipolar from this nonsense. As far as JWs being asked not to marry, its always been that way as long as I can remember. I guarantee you those three young men on the stage, since being put on display like slaves at an auction, they'll all be married in a handful of years. Those guys will be fighting sisters off.

Here's what I can't figure out: If you know you're not going to college but know that you're going to end up working in Dad's cleaning business or going to Bethel or whatever, why worry about your grades in high school?
I knew I wasn't going to college so I didn't have to worry about grade point averages or SATs. To be quite I honest, I really didn't give a fuck about high school or my grades. I just wanted out. Sorry attitude now that I look back. But while that attitude may not be encouraged by JW parents/elders/GB, the fact that they don't want you to pursue higher education pretty much does lend itself to causing one to not care.
The high grade point average JW is, or was when I was active, a rare thing...but they always like to use these examples in the assemblies and meeting parts...like all JW kids are 4.0 students turning down scholarships to Yale everyday...
Exactly!!! Prior to high school I really did apply myself, but once it dawned on me in 11th grade that I'm not going to college and the end of this system of things is bound to happen in a handful of years, why bother with taking school seriously? I didnt take my SATs, why bother? Now I'm in my early 30s. Buncha corrupt rotton bastards for encouraging this way of thinking. You're right these demos are so outragous. I don't know one JW that knows 20 other JWs that ever heard of a JW being offered scholarships to prestigious universities. Its insulting when you really sit down and think about it. CO's,DO's, the GB, and other Bethel Heavyweights are getting brand new cars, nice apartments or homes to stay in. The best meals, green handshakes, vacations, etc.. But they don't want you to get any of that. Rotton cowards they are. I hate those dudes any more when I think about it too long.

true comfort by telling me they are dead?

we needed the weekend because he had to take off a few days during the week for a funeral.
on saturday, he asked me what jw's believe about death.

I guess it would be comforting to someone who's a hardcore believer in a burning hell or Purgatory, and the loved one in question had lived a questionable lifestyle. But I agree with the general sentiments in this thread, it is more comforting to think of a loved one in the heavens than simply asleep as Ecclesiastes indicates. It just sounds and feels better to think of them as being in a better place than us, looking down on us and awaiting the day when we'll join them. Lately I don't know what to believe, but that sounds better than believing shortly everyone but JWs will be destroyed, and those who never heard the JW message will be brought back to life for a millenium long bible study, occasionally gardening and playing with animals.

Was Hitler really a "genius"?
by Mr. Monday Night inwas adolf hitler really a "genius" or was he in the right place, at the right time?.
i think he was evil (obviously), but at the same time, he was a great speaker and was able to "trick" the minds of the german people pre-wwii and during the second world war.. i would like to hear your thoughts.... ciao,.

I'm with Independent Tre, Hitler was the right guy, at the right time. There's always the potential for another Hitler too. Germany was still bitter after WWI, and the sanctions placed upon them crippled their economy. Those seeds of discontent laid there, and other European countries took it for granted that Germany was controlled, when really there was no super power in Europe, it was up for grabs at the time. Germany initially played their hand better than the other countries. They got the drop on everybody else. A side of me respects them for it. As far as the "evil" aspect of it, was he really so "evil" when you consider there's a LOT of people who hate or are suspiscious of Jews today, as they were then? Then it was more open I believe. I don't think he was evil as much as he was a product of his enviroment. All throughout Europe people had and still have negative outlooks towards Jews and "others."
On the other hand, economics plays a role too, cuz when times are bad, people look for someone to blame, the Jews are all too easy. Even now, countries that were enemies of Germany during the WW years, have segments of their population embracing Nazism. Russia has the highest percentage of Neo Nazi Skinheads now, and the goverment just banned Mein Kampf. Even Poland has Nazi Skins now. Who would have thought 50 years after WW2, those countries would have a significant portion of their population taking a liking to Hitler's ideology? I wouldnt be surprised that with a Black president, and a mediocre economy, questionable immigration policiec, I wouldn't be surprised if out of one of the major political parties, emerges a Hitler-Lite.

What's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?
by A.Fenderson inwhat's a really good movie you'd recommend that most people probably haven't seen?.
my personal recommendation: synecdoche, new york.
it's one of those movies that words fail utterly to capture--which really is the hallmark of a good movie, i suppose.
