Do you attend the local cong in my area LOL?

The first Elder meeting I sat in on was an eye opener. The COBOE at my Hall, is an ok guy. I would never criticize him excessively. His heart is ok in my opinion. However in that meeting, I saw him pretty much nod his head to whatever was being said. I mean it could be an issue where the Body was divided evenly. He is incapable of making a decision on his own merits. If one faction say, "such, so and such and such", he'll nod his head and reply, "yeah." If the other side comes with a counter argument, he'll not his head and agree with them. He basically makes his decisions off of whomever had the last word.

yes folks, i heard it at the meeting this week...again.

the sm included a local needs part and this was the subject - family worship night.. apparently, regarding fwn, that time was never, nor now is, ours.

@ miseryloveselders - In the past 6 months, I would venture to say that this is about the 3rd time we have a local needs dealing with this. I guess the major problem in the hall, or even sin, is getting people to be regular at this.

Oh yea, and I don't remember when I last studied for a meeting, unless I was assigned to read.

You know, I personally do it still because I don't think its a bad habit to read the Bible regular at all. People can say whatever they will about JWs, much of the negative being true, but one thing is certain. Compared to a bunch of other Christian denominations, JWs know their Bible better than most, even if they have the wrong ideas on much of it. If I didn't study for the meeting nights, I'd probably fall out of the habit considerably, if not all together.

But yeah COC, believe it when I say it, this "arrangement" did not work out according to plan.

I think the GB are mere figureheads. There are others who are really running the show.

I wonder about this sometimes too. Possibly heavyweights in the legal department that realize the potential for lawsuits if they go too liberal, too quick especially in the realm of blood transfusions, and organized shunning. What makes me think this is unlikely though, is from sitting in Elder meetings. From my own experience, and that which was relayed to me by others, most Elder meetings have a couple blowhards who dominate the body. They have their man-whores who will go whatever which way they demand. Sometimes the COBOE formerly the PO is spineless, and he'll go whichever way the wind blows so long as its less trouble for him. Others on the body with less than dynamic personalites, or humble fellows with good hearts will often concede to the more honcho elders on the body. As a result, often congregations suffer. Every now and then a CO with a chip on his shoulder, or with a good heart will come and break those Elder bodies up. Considering all of that, why wouldn't it be the same at the GB level? The only difference is there's nobody to check their hand, with the exception of maybe the Legal Department.

Oh yeah, you're not the only one COC LOL. This is actually starting to turn into a hot topic in CO conversations with Elders. This is right up there with pornography on the internet, and higher education. It appears The Friends are doing whatever the heck they feel like doing on Tuesday night. Who woulda ever thought that if the friends weren't being monitored, they might just do something contrary to what the Faithful & Discreet Slave intended? Shocking stuff! CO's are encouraging Elder bodies to investigate under the guise of shepherding calls. I believe whats happening in a lot of situations is that some are preparing for the mid week meeting on Family Study Night, which is not what the Clergy Pope Class Governing Body intended. They'd rather you prepare for the mid week meeting on Monday, or Wednesday. Tuesday, however, or whatever day was the day for your book study, that was to be a night of study material not related to the mid week meeting. Personally, I still prepare for meetings even when I don't have a part or anything. I do it on the Family Study night.

she can't read this now because her computer has been broken for several days.

lee is not a complainer now would dare ask for help, but though she can even build computers, she has ancient equipment and if you know her, little funds.. bottom line: she needs a $500+ cpu box to get updated to the 21st century.

if you are interested in helping her (don't email her because she won't get it, and don't call her and embarrass her yet) but this girl needs a "working car" to get back on the road, if you know what i mean.. email me at [email protected].

I just wanted to remind all of you that you didn't follow the Slave's procedure for this sort of shindig you lukewarm folks just had. You're supposed to make a motion first that you're going to help LAdy Lee. Then someone is supposed to second the motion. Then if the majority of the forum raises their hand, only then can you open up the flood gates to voluntary donations. Duh!!!

1975 - Lest We Forget

i find the topic of the 1975 end of the world scenario facinating, especially since i never lived through it.

do you old schoolers ever feel concerned that people will one day forget about what really went down?

with whitewashed tripe like the 'proclaimers' book informing dubs that it was just the false expectations of over enthusiastic apostates, are you at all concerned that the legacy of bullshit that is 1975 will be a forgotten moment in history blamed on you instead where the blame really belongs?

I'm afraid to ask what she remembers...

I'm somewhat hesitant to bring this up to people who would remember that time frame. I wasn't born until a couple years after 75". Right now I can only think of a couple instances where I conversed with people about this. One brother showed me in an old publication how "some fell away after reading too far into it". I can't remember the book, and I can't remember if it briefly mentioned something about the parousia, or it was an article on the parousia, or what? I'm leary of asking him about it do to it raising suspicious. Another time I purposely mentioned the Parousia to an older somewhat kooky sister and asked her if she recalled 75". She stated that she did, but she sorta changed the subject. We were discussing this in field service doing door to door. And conversations during door to door can change like the wind.

i thought it would be an interesting exercise to ask everybody on here what their 'top 10 reasons why jws don't have the truth' actually were.

maybe we can see some correlating views/patterns/ideas that may help us de-programme the newbies that come on this site.

if eventually most people have an outstanding gripe/concern it'll help everybody understand the ex-jw mindset a little better.

information about four theocratic schools.

starting september 1, 2011, each year at patterson there will be 2 classes of the school for branch committee members and 2 classes of the school for traveling overseers.

branch committee members who have previously attended the branch committee school will be invited to attend a second time.

i stopped whilst still an active witness, just cancelled my direct debit and told myself i would put money in the box to cover things like literatrash and heat and light sometimes, and sometimes i did , but that dropped off.. the thing is, i cannot really pin down what my motive was at the time, i still thought then that it was god's org.. but i just stopped giving them money.

why ?

i dunno.. when and why did you stop giving them money ?.

I stopped when I saw too many incidents of wasteful spending.

For instance, at the same time as couselling the flock to "live simply" and "not take too many vacations", they purchased 2 new blinds for the K-Hall at a cost of $5000. The RBC was handcuffed into only using a prominent elder's decorating business for all K-Hall renos and building. He was making a pretty penny from it, too. His wife would wander around the renovations, doing nothing to help, in her matching Linda Lundstrom coat ($1500) and boots ($700)

That's when I said, No More.

I'm glad you mentioned this. I know many on here like to joke about JWs being window washers. However, more than a few JWs own businesses involved in cleaning, maintenance, or trades. Quite a few of them make a good buck off of Kingdom Halls, and Assembly Halls.

I loved Bruce Lee too. My favorite scene was when Kareem Abdul Jabar left a footprint in his chest and pissed Bruce off. Hilarious. Fighting the clawed villain with the mirrors has to be in the top 10 grestest movie scenes ever. I liked Bolo Yeung too. I've never seen an Asian cat with a chest and arms that big. He was intimidating.
