I forgot about this thread, but I knew Vamp was antiholiday like me, and I love him for it. I'm happy for those like SweetBabyCheezits who are celebrating with their families. That makes me feel good, but at the same time...............screw Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years, Halloween, Valentines Day, especially Valentines Day, etc.. I hate V-Day, its anti-single people day.

Thanks for that post Terry. So Mormons are "encouraged" to be clean shaven as well, ridiculous. Going beyond what's written. I like this picture, I'd love to let my beard grow like this. I thought Lebron and Braylon Edwards' beards looked good on them.
Its insane how something so natural as facial hair is demonized by "men of God." So much for God's image, and avoidance of going beyond what's written. If Honest Abe didn't have a beard, he'd look like he had AIDS. The beard enhanced his masculinity IMO.

You would think the WT would promote beard growth, being that they want to remain seperate from the world. Also they appear to be obsessed with the law covenant. Considering the scriptures mentioned above, and being that they highlight the fact that Wall Street supposedly is clean shaven, which by the way is part of Satans system of things, wouldn't they want to be different than worldly businessmen and maintain the principles set forth in the law covenant? The most recent WT articles(from the 70s) subtely condemning facial hair make it seem like its the beatniks and hippies fault, but its 2010, those movements are long gone. By the way, there's a fair share of black JW males ticked off about the WT's facial hair policy. The bottom of their faces look like mountain ranges of ingrown hairs.
Is it safe to say the WT's antifacial hair stance was a result of Rutherford's obsession with eliminating any remnants of Russel's influence? Also, the possibility that Fred Franz and Knorr didn't want brush burns on their gonads?

Why did the WTS stop having the rank and file pay for magazines? (1990)
by Joliette inwe had our po visit this week, and he was telling us about how the rank and file had to stop paying for their magazine.
why and how did this come about (i was born in 1983) so by the time i could get to the literature counter, everything (at least i thought when i was kid) was free.. .
was more of an emphasis put on voluntary donating?.

I never asked. It was hard enough to get a few placements when just handing them to the householder with a begging type look on your face.
I'd say most feel the same way Booby. I can't tell you the last time I went, "If you'd like to support this volunteer work, I'd be glad to accept whatever donation you would like to give." I'd have my envelope ready in case someone donated something so it didn't look like I was pocketing the money myself. It's been years since the donation arrangement went into effect, and its been almost as long since I ever requested inquired if a householder wished to donate something. Most brothers and sisters I've worked with in the field, don't request anything when they have success placing a magazine, brochure, or even a book. I guess the WT is all too aware of this, and had to cheapen their literature as a result, putting dang near everything in paperback. Plus the occasional article in the KM emphasizing the need to support Jehovah's chosen organization with your gold and silver.

More on the brother in my hall who attacked children Halloween night with a knife.
by life is to short inwell i have learned that it was very true.
i do not want to post the story because i do not want to totally give myself away and the story dose not say he was a jw only that he attacked children and had a police standoff.
plus it gives his name and i just do not want to bring more problems on him, it is just really sad.. the brother is schizophrenic.

One last thing, I hope this comes out ok, forgive me please if it doesn't.
It didn't come out okay.
but at the same time they need to know when a man means business. Chris Rock said he wouldn't hit his girl, but he'd shake her real hard.
It makes your 'woman' comment to lady lee yesterday seem even worse - sort of like 'putting her back in her place'. A place that cause her no end of heartache and 'unworthiness.'
If you don't mean any of that, then by all means, say so. But after everything lady lee went through in the WT, calling her 'woman' to remind her of that place seemed pretty callous and weak to me.
If you didn't mean it (or even this statement) that way, then I 100% apologize.
And FYI, I thought Dan was letting his wife run all over him too, and I wanted him to stand up for himself too. But not by pulling the I'm the man, and you're the mere woman card.
Tammy
Hey woman, I mean Tammy, sorry. Some of that was tongue in cheek, Lady Lee's alright in my book. Although I don't agree with all of the recent disfellowshippings on this board. I also don't agree with that thread being deleted. The Hitler/Himmler comparisons I stand by. I started to ask if the mods and administrators of this forum left the WT in 1984 if you catch my drift. But that's neither here, nor there. By the way, you don't ever have to apologize to me Tammy, and neither does anybody else on here. I love you Tammy, you're alright.
As a man, I'm glad you agree with me about Dan's wife running over him. I'm hesitant to at times to toss that out there being that I'm single. My palms are too hairy to hide. But you being a woman and agreeing lets me know I'm not completely out of it.
Maybe my man-up comments didn't come out ok considering you're a woman, but for other men out there, I think they know where I'm coming from.
Again though, Tammy you're wonderful, and I love you. Lady Lee I love you too.

I think its a good thing Dan left, and I don't say that with malice. I hope the best for him, but there comes a time when person has to confront himself, and this is that moment for him. As far as his faith supposedly being destroyed, I'd make the argument that he never had any to begin with, or very little anyway. He reminds me of Jesus' words at Luke 6: 46-49, when he talked about the different foundations that an individual would build his house. Some would dig deep and build it upon a rock mass, and when the flood came, their house held up. Others would build there's upon the sand, and the flood would come, and the house with its lack of secure foundation, would collapse and be destroyed. Dan in my view, falls under the latter category of builder. Granted, he was going through some rough times between this religion, and potentially losing all his family. So don't get me wrong, I'm not judging him, nor do I view him poorly as I'll be singing my swan song from here shortly, possibly under similar circumstances.
Something else about him, if I'm not mistaken, he was a born-in right? I can't speak on behalf of all born-ins, but being one myself I believe so many of us never really had a secure faith to begin with. I believe many of us were systematically trained to perform works that the WT indoctrinated us to believe were absolutely necessarry for salvation. Its kind of like training a dog to sit, fetch, play dead, roll over, take a poop on the newspaper in a particular corner of the room, etc.. Its the same thing with born-ins. We're trained to study WT doctrines and material, attend and comment at meetings, personal study, etc.. An individual can perform all those things, but it doesn't mean he has a solid faith. As demonstrated on this very forum, there's athiests who know WT doctrine and other fundementalist doctrines better than the pious fundementalists themselves. So a JW may know his/her bible, but it doesn't mean his/her faith is intact. When push comes to shove, they fold under pressure. So I believe its a good thing that Dan has left here. I'm a firm believer in destroying, and rebuilding.
One last thing, I hope this comes out ok, forgive me please if it doesn't. I've noticed some of the men on here, really need to man up. Granted I'm not the best guy to be saying this as I have my fears too. I posted them multiple times. However, guys on here, particulary born-ins, have a problem I think of letting women run all over them. Dan's wife ran a major game over on him, and then he took her to dinner. I'd have let her starve had she pulled that stunt on me. A woman would rather catch the Ebola virus than think she's gonna run a game on me. I'm not saying one needs to go Ike Turner on a woman as I don't believe in harming a woman, but at the same time they need to know when a man means business. Chris Rock said he wouldn't hit his girl, but he'd shake her real hard.

I admit, abject and utter failure.....
by notverylikely ini tried, i thought i could make it work, it seemed so easy, but alas, in my project to turn a used $3 cigar box into a functional humidor i failed miserably.
i never could make the box airtight enough and allow enough air to circulate through to keep the cigars moist enough with a passive humidifier.
the humidity kept falling too low, i kept have to try to seal more edges of the box and eventually i started losing cigars.. i broke down today and bought a $40 humidor and in the space of just a few hours it is already keeping the cigars more moist and humid.. i failed.

Ok, I gotcha!! I never knew that about cigars. I've never smoked so much as a cigarette. Was tempted to try weed at times in my life, but I've never smoked anything.
Let me ask you, what does a cigar taste like. Do you get a buzz, is there an aquired taste, what is it about cigars?

Wait a minute, I misunderstood you, and its my fault because I didn't read your opening post properly. I apologize, but cigars have to be sealed properly, or kept at ideal temperatures?
