one year in jail for metro vancouver man who circumcised son at homeby andrea woo, vancouver sunmarch 25, 2010comments (46)metro vancouver -- a metro vancouver man who circumcised his four-year-old son at home with a razor blade and blood coagulant meant for horses has been sentenced to one year in jail followed by two years probation.
in april 2007, the man, identified only as djw due to a publication ban, gave his son, dj, honey wine before placing him on garbage bags on the kitchen floor.
djw then cut away the boy's foreskin with a razor blade.. .
According to a summary of the case in Justice Marion Allan's October 2009 ruling, DJW, a Jehovah's Witness, had told DJ the procedure would grant him "extra special protection from God." DJW told DJ he would be allowed to eat Passover lamb and ice cream and to pick all the movies he wanted for a week.
I can just imagine a GB member reading his morning paper and seeing this story then exclaiming, "What the F***!!?"
This would surely make for a "wanta get away" moment for the GB. This is the not the publicity the WT likes to see.

i watched star trek but i just hadn't put it together in my head why some here refer to "the organization" as the borg.
i wasn't sure whether it was just me being discontented or whether the public speakers at kingdom halls were really getting less and less worthy of presenting themselves in front of an audience.. the idea was supposed to be that "mature ones" could overlook a colorless delivery and glean all of the spiritual truths that are being presented.
i was talking with a friend of mine on the board yesterday and the discussion gave me the idea for this thread !
( thanks friend !
) and it seems as we were talking the thought came up that many of us when exiting the mind control of jehovah's witnesses we really come to appreciate the freedom to think how we want and be able to have access to other views which helps us to have a broader scope , or broader world view than just the tunnel vision of the wt society.
We were never really allowed to get know each other well.
I've had very valued discussions with family about all aspects of life, with no holds barred, no fear of saying something wrong and not being counseled for going offbased. Getting to know each of them more intimately is something I'm really treasuring.
And to be a little more clearer.
In the past, as a JW, they would hold back in fear of getting in trouble. If they went off track, I would have felt its my job to bring them back onto WT line. With that, how could anyone have any freedom of discussion and not being judged? They couldn't. We still somehow managed to have fun inspite of the WT stuff, but now we really are having fun mixed with some serious soul searching discussions.
Its all about control for the GB and that's why they hate and despise any JW that finally finds true freedom. They have to isolate freedom lovers or they won't have an organization to lead.
i was in for 30 years.....my ex was an elder...."holy spirit appointed" he tortured me....i was married 33+ years....you know,,,marriage is sacred...you can leave,,,i know,,,,if abuse is intolerable....but that starts a series of events...etc etc etc....i finally left everything...and moved far away.....people actually believe "holy spirit" appoints people,,,my ex would not pray unless there was an audience...you know,,,,people invited over for supper kind of thing,,,you get the point..... my best friend had a mental breakdown,,,,she basically became psychotic.....had to be hospitalized....she took up smoking,,,got disfellowshipped...and lost all emotional support....to this day,,,,as far as i know,,,she is still disfellowshipped...needs to be hospitialized every so often....she is on complete disability.....and still trying to get back into the org....her mother does support some what,,,,even though she is a witness herself,,,,,takes her to assemblies,,,,memorial,,,etc,,,,this has gone on for years.....she cannot mentally handle the organization,,,nor can she mentally handle not being a witness...lost everything....guilt....etc..... did not mean to ramble on so much......i have mental scars that will not go away....because i stayed in a "mess" for god,,,,i could write page after page of things like the above....as being my "last straw".......curious about you here on the board....any specific "breaking point" or a collection of many things..... thanks for your in put...peaches.
I not only read them but tried to committ to memory. When with the JW's I would talk incessantly about the articles. Looking back now, I would say I was a pretty obnoxious Dubb....
Way back in the day when they launched 700 Club on TV, they had a Telethon and were desperate for money. My brother, a non-JW called, who hated these guys, offered to give $1,000. (He couldn't resist faking)
They were so excited to get his pledge as he also volunteered he was forgoing his house payment, but knew the Lord would bless his efforts to help the 700 Club. They shared this on the air live. We were laughing as we watched them relate his most generous offer and story as an example for others to give more.
To add: Soemone on the telephone was relateing this to the moderator.
When they asked for his address, he said it was 1313 Mocking Bird Lane, Coalinga, Calif. (Which had just had a major Earthquake and was home for the TV show 'the Munsters')
On the air, they asked, "Isn't that where the big Earthquake just happened?" He replied, "Yes, I lost everyting"
They stopped to say a prayer for his family, they were so moved.
When they got to the credit card number info, he muffled the numbers as he read them. Then said, "I just want to praise the Lord. God bless you!" And hung up.
A few minutes later on the show, they asked if the caller, who donated the money from Coalinga, could call back, they had some questions for him. Of course he never called.
I'm still not sure if they are a cult, unless you feel a cult is a high thought controlled, child sacrificing, nation of mindless Zombies, then I guess you would have to label my old buddies a cult.
But for me it was a feeling of complete astonishment. Picture Moe Sislak of the Simpson's letting out a ten minute.......... "Whaaaaaaaaaat!!!!!"
