Questions from readers: Should we circumcise our children? DJW, Vancouver, B.C. Canada
Dear DJW,
Although as Christians, we are no longer under the Mosaic Law, we still try to abide by its principles.
The Mosaic Law is clear on this matter "Verily we say unto thee, you must cut off the foreskin of your son. Do it with haste. But be careful, remembering the sons of your loins are tied in to this" (Numbers 22:23) Failure to comply would mean they would suffer the penalty of death. "As a foreskin is cut off, you shall surely be cut-off from Israel." (2 Chron 23:23) With this in mind, it is clear that Jehovah is quite serious when it comes to circumcision.
But what about "Christians"?
The word "circumcision' is mentioned in the Christian Greek Scriptures, so today, we should take this admonition seriously as well.
Christians, although not under the 'Mosaic Law', are under the 'Law of Conscience'. A 'Godly' trained conscience, molded by the Governing Body, and enforced by mature Christians in the Congregations of Jehovah's Witnesses, can do much in receiving God's blessing.
So, it is our opinion, (certainly we have God's Spirit; See Apostle Paul once said this) is that it would be wise for a Christian to circumcise their children. True, we cannot make this decision for you, but wouldn't it be better for someone to obey and follow the wise counsel from God's representitives on Earth (Acts 5:29)
May Jehovah richly reward your efforts as you cut off the foreskins of your children.
