Then I asked her to explain people who look into things like the 607 B.C.E. chronology and decide that their conscious cannot allow them to continue to be a part of an organization that they believe is not being truthful concerning the facts. I don't recall exactly what she said but I do recall asking her to read the introduction section of Carl Olof Johnson's book, "The Gentile Times Reconsidered." Perhaps she can see something in his words that I missed. Perhaps she can see where Carl was just simply trying to live his life like he pleased. Perhaps he just simply wanted to think his own way concerning this chronology and not submit to the faithful and discreet slave (whoever they are). These were the theories submitted by my wife tonight when I asked her is she would just read the intro section. So I guess all you disfellowshipped people are just a bad lot who only want to do whatever immoral thing you want to do or think ahead of the faithful and discreet slave. I mean, there is no possible way you could ever think to leave because of something they did.
You guys just want to be immoral, lean on your own understanding, and not trust Jehovah. What a bad lot.

the gist of the article is that trade schools are becoming increasingly poplular in our down economy, and that many of them deceptively market themselves, to put it nicely.
far too many students graduate from these outfits with tens of thousands of dollars of debt and zero job prospects.. when i was 19 years old, i decided to take the "spiritual" and "theocratic" route by foregoing a college education in favor of a quick trade school program.

designs: Whether you believe in God or not is irrelevent. The fact I am trying to point out is how the Society twists the scriptures to support their murderous blood doctrines, telling parents that the cannot give them birthday parties, Christmases, etc.. Worse, teaching them that they are going to die if they celebrate these things and causing individual witnesses to take antidepressents to deal with their twisted beliefs. Again, twisting the scriptures to their own destruction. Let's also not forget how they teach shunning and tearing apart families from their faulty interpretations of scripture.
Now, I also know from experience that certain protestant churches do this as well and it would be wise to avoid these overly legalistic churches also. However, I also know that many churches also teach all those good things you pointed out and do real tangible things that benefit many. I tend to fall in this camp. Love is what is most important and are the two greatest commandments that true Christians follow.
You referred to me and others who were posting on this thread as fundamentalists when in fact some of the posters were atheist (real bright designs). As far as I am concerned, each individual is free to make up their own minds concerning their spiritual path but basing one's life choices on the interpretations of 9 men who can't seem to get a single date (that they say comes from the Bible) right does not make any sense. At least we're trying to help show what the text is actually saying. It is up to the individual to decide for himself or herself whether or not he or she wishes to believe in it.

Yeah, look for Drew Sagan's post on that thread. I recall them saying this at the last assembly where my wife was baptized. My wife, of course, buys this hook, line, and sinker. Drew put the quote back in context and clearly it indicated that we 'die' to our sins by accepting Christ as our Lord and Savior. This is what is meant by our dying acquitting us of our sins.
Just another example of how they twist scripture to their own destruction.

I have to take issue with some of your posts judging and criticizing others for their efforts to point out errors in the doctrines of the JW's. You say, "Do a little good each day." So is this to imply that people who are trying to show what the Bible is really saying aren't 'doing a little good each day?' It is up to the individual JW to determine his or her own path after they have been shown the light but it is still incumbent on all of us who love others to show them the lies from the WT.
Do a little good and stop judging others who are merely trying to so the same.

my dad exposed himself to me from the age of three until i left home at 18. my dad did lots of gross things but that is not the jest of this post.. one of the things my dad did that i clearly remember was exposing himself in the elevator at work to woman twice and he almost got fired for it.

Excellent job on the links to Google maps. The view of the pyramid from the east is beautiful. If I ever get to visit that area, I am definitely planning to check it out with my own eyes.
In regards to Russell being a freemason, there is a lot of misinformation that frankly I cannot point exactly one way or another. But I do recall that being debunked by one of the freemasons. In either case, you're right. There is definitely a lot of strong ties between Russell and the freemasons.
one of the questions i ask jws before discussing anything with them is:.
"what facts, evidence or otherwise would you consider as proof that jehovah's witnesses are not the true religion?".
i thought it was unfair to simply ask that of them so i figured i'd answer a similar question:.
Yeah, the superficial markings are what got me thinking that these people may indeed have the truth myself. They seem to have a ready answer for just about anything and they were real good at dressing it up to make it look like they knew what they were talking about.
When I started looking beneath the surface, I was horrified at what I had discovered. It is just so sad that my wife and all of her family cannot bring themselves to see this. I guess they figure, "Where else can we go?" Crazy as it sounds, I was of a similar mindset when I first came on this board. Thinking that I had to find a substitute church that was just as good.
is thinking that because he or she has not been bested at the door that this is a point in his or her favor that they have the "truth".
what this thinking fails to take into account is that people are self-motivated and unless there is some compelling psychological payoff or some monetary payoff in making the sort of investment required to "defeat" the witness argument,(which rarely involves the whole) that they will rarely be engaged except by the few who haven't the mental acumen to understand what constitutes a worthwhile investment.. .
the jw leaves with unwarranted satisfaction on these occasions imagining that this encounter is one more implicit vote in favor of "the truth".
