CRAZINESS!!! I'M BEING 'MARKED' FOR GOING TO COLLEGE!!!

ohmygosh!!!

one of my friends who is a ms told me today that the elders have 'marked' me because i'm a reg.pioneer and i've decided to go to college next semester???!

he said he can't tell me anymore but to be careful---what the hell does 'mark' mean?

I have to admit, your post was actually somewhat fair and balanced given the aspect that this girl appears to be wanting to continue to be a witness and go to college at the same time. Frankly, if I were in her shoes I would want to know whether or not any of the elders had a college degree. If not, then do any of the highly respected brothers have a degree? If so, then I would not worry about the marking and if I should ever get called into the back room, I would be most prepared to point out who had the degrees and the hypocrisy of them denying me the right to get mine.

Frankly, this reminds me too much of what happened to me at an IFB church when my girlfriend and I were attending. One of her friends told her after the sermon that my girlfriend and I were being 'too lovey dovey' and were a distraction in the church. I could not believe it, all we did was hold hands and I may have put my arm around her. Nothing that I did not see other couples doing. I was PO'd to say the least and I called that pastor and gave him a piece of my mind. He swore up and down that he never made those remarks to her friends and apologized profusely. I wasn't buying it and I never set foot in that church again and I heard later on that her friends were nearly kicked out for saying that. If it had been a year or so earlier, I probably would not have said anything. I may have even tried to appease the pastor. However, by then I had had enough of their beating up on me for never being good enough and I was fighting back.

I would imagine that if this kind of tripe continues in MGG's life, she will get equally disgusted and start calling them out.

In Love with a JW but he dumped me

so i just broke up with my jw boyfriend of over two years, nearly three.

when i met him he was disfellowshipped and i didn't find out he was a jehovah's witness unitl 4 months into the relationship.

six month into he was reinstated with the caution of getting rid of me, but he didnt.

You are better off without him, and my advice, stay as far away from Jehovah's Witnesses, Moonies, Mormons, Fundamentalists, etc, as possible. They have a warped view of the world.

Think of it this way, it hurts because it did not work out. It really hurts. I can sympathize with that. Now imagine if it did work out, you two get married, he gets reinstated and becomes gung-ho on his religion. There goes birthdays for your kids, if your kids want to participate in holiday activities at their school, your husband will feel ultra compelled to prevent that. Your husband will feel ultra compelled to take the kids to all the meetings, leaving you at home alone. Of course, you could go along but you will feel like you are selling yourself short, doing things for others and not doing what makes you happy. You will here a constant barrage about how people in the world are second class people, only they are good people.

Sure, you and your husband may work out something and he may promise not to try to indoctrinate them. However, he will feel compelled to indoctrinate them to hate all holidays and view people of the world with disdain. If not him, then someone else in the cong will. I had a JW babysitter scare my daughter into not wanting to watch Super Why. Fundamentalist wackos are like that as I recall how wacky some of the people at the IFB churches I use to attend were about Captian Planet and the Smurfs. Thank God my daughter got over that fear of Super Why (she watches it now).

I don't have to go into the whole blood thing do I? He will feel compelled to refuse blood transfusions for the kids and for YOU, even at the cost of life itself.

Count your blessing, leave this board, and do not look back. Stay away from these fundamentalist wackos and live your life.

Attended 2-Day Circuit Assembly--Highlights

since my spouse is an active elder, i accompany him to sads, cas and das, at least for the time being.

anyway, i thought i'd share some of the more odd/disturbing bits from the latest "sanctify god's name" ca.

there wasn't anything particularly new but the tone toward porn, higher ed, bad assoc, "habitual" murmuring and harmful gossip is definitely hardening, as are the cautions against social networking.

Yep, same stuff I heard at my wife's assembly recently. I just thought, "These people will believe ANYTHING the Watchtower tells them." How sad.

College and the Watchtower: Remember One Thing

if any of you lurkers listen to a rant by the society against college, remember one thing:.

the brother giving the talk is probably an utter hypocrite.. there are a few exceptions but consider that many elders are financially secure - which allows them to be elders.

while they talk about not planning for the future because armageddon 'is so close', they have pensions, ira's, roth accounts and investments.

Actually, money is just one factor in considering a better job. How about health insurance? Paid vacation and time off? Weekends off? Working conditions? Respect in the workplace? Job security? Some people are actually willing to switch jobs with a cut in pay in order to have other advantages.

You're so preaching to the choir, Billy. Never-the-less, she likes her vacations and shopping sprees. Those things don't come free. However, I certainly don't consider her to be money grubby, she just realizes that we need more money if we want to be able to work and have daycare provided (which is by no means cheap), plus have a roof over our head and food on the table while still being able to do some of those extra things. You know like, vacations and eating out and shopping sprees.

I remember a few years ago my wife wanted to stop going to college and try to get a 'Bible' education. It was a coincidence (NOT) that the prior assembly harped against education in lieu of pioneering (as they always do). So I asked her, "How did elder 'nice guy' get his degree and work as a pharamacist?" "He got his degree before he came into the truth," she replied. "Well, isn't that convenient. Get your degree, get your good job while you are a worldly, then come into the religion with all the benefits of a good education," I said. How sick....

I don't know if that convinced her to go on with her degree or not but she went on with it. Now she realizes the importance of getting a good job with a good income but she still feels guilty about it. Saying she hates being all 'money grubby' and all.

Modern, contemporary style churches just Jesus worshippers?

after i left the jw's about 5 years ago i decided to visit a few other churches out of curiosity.

i visited some big contemporary style churches, you know, the ones with bands and loads of young people.

i wasn't surprised to see so much emphasis on jesus of course but what struck me was the almost total absence of any emphasis or praise given to the father.

Of all the churches I've been to over the years (and I have been to many) there is a mixture. Some use God's name (Jehovah), most don't, the one I attend now occasionally prays to the Holy Spirit (which I find a bit unusual), most focus on Jesus.
