I am seeing "New Light"- in reconsidering scripture tithing IS in accordance with God's commands to the WTBTS! Failure to tithe is an offense punishable by disfellowshipping and tax returns will be demanded.

Reduced Magazines Etc: Scenario Thinking
by metatron inforgive me for creating this thread but i believe there are aspects of watchtower downsizing that have not been fully understood or 'fleshed out'.. for example: you have a publishing company whose main source of revenues are book and magazine production and sales.
their international presence is supported by the profits they make on these.
so far, so good.... overtime, their products fail to sell.

I am old enough to have lost some friends and acquaintances to death. So I say to you, picture yourself at your friend's funeral and realize they will never again invite themselves over for dinner. If that makes you sad, accept them as they are, and consider yourself blessed to be able to answer Christ if he asks when you fed the hungry- "Every few weeks when _________ and _______ dropped over unexpectedly."

I still remeber my late 70's wedding while a Jw. It was my responsibility to buy the alcohol for the Wedding reception. We had about three hundred guests and with a discount from a whiskey wholesaler my mother knew it still cost me $1100 for beer and whiskey. There was none of it left to take home. After we established ourselves in the local congo we were invited to the wine and cheese parties-woo hoo! Another occasion for the Jw's to drink till they were very happy. I always got the feeling we were always about ten minutes away from everyone dropping theri keys in a big bowl and the party really getting started. How glad i am to have escaped!

What do you think of AOG church?
by shallbefree inhello friends, i am a fading jw and i am thinking of attending sunday service at a local aog church here, just for fellowship.
i have lots of friends but none of them are spiritual minded.
not that i am complaining but it would be nice to meet some spiritual minded people.

when you were in, could you imagine yourself in the new system?
by breathing ini never could, like some others described, i could never ever see myself there, i just couldnt imagine it at all,.
i wonder if that was a sign that deep down i didnt believe it?.

Admit it none of us imagined ourselves in the New sysytem. We had been convinced we were not good enough to go in and would die at Armageddon. A common theme of many of our 1970's conversations were "How is it going to feel taking your last breath at Armageddon"? Of course we were mentally unbalanced cult members :)

I realized a positive outcome from my JW upbrining!
by scarredforlife ini have been on this board for over 2 years.
one thing that i have read over and over is to find something positive in my upbrining as a jw and i have been unable to do this.
all i have seen is negative.

I learned how to deal with dysfunctional people. Not to downplay the scandal in the Catholic church or the "society" but we lived one block from a catholic church and thankfully Dad got involved with the cult and I didn't become an altar boy

Do you feel that suicide is wrong?
by dandingus inminimus got me thinking with his thread about whether or not you know anyone that committed suicide.
i think it might be interesting to see what the opinions are.. what do you think?.
are there cases where it is understandable?

I have always taken comfort in the thought that God is gracious to children who have not reached the age of accountability. The other side of that coin of grace is that he must then also be gracious to the mentally incapacitated. Being that we all are born with an overwhelming survival instinct I think that when someone( the vast majority exception Hitler, those who kill themselves to prevent jali, execution etc) ends their own life they at some point have stepped over the point of sanity and God's grace surrounds them.

Do You Personally Know Of Anyone That Committed Suicide?
by minimus inlately, i've come to find out that a more than a few people in the area had killed themselves.
most of the people i know of were in their early twenties or forties.
for those loved ones surviving them, it was mostly a shock!

My best man at my first wedding hung himself. He was just a youngster raised in the cult to be a perfect elder's child. The pressure to perform along with drugs and alcohol were more than he could bear. i believe he was also a victim ofthe widespread racism with in the cult. He was fine, young , goodlooking black guy and was given a lot of grief because the white sisters loved him to death.
