Fatherhood
by xelder inif god exists and wants me to love him and view him as a father, then why doesn't he act like it?
why is his book so full of unexplained unfairness?
he has no duty to explain unless he wants me to love him.. the concept of god as a father totally escapes me.

thanks Mouthy......of course I appreciate your opinion.
Prove to me that an angel exists, opposed to God, and wants people to worship him. Prove this without relying on words written by people trying to explain why bad things happen....(I consider their thoughts as mere guesses also)

In your opinion...
by iamwhoiam in...why do people choose to fade over just sending in a letter?.

Don't want to lose family, AND want to be available in contact when family begins to open their eyes.

The concept of God as a father totally escapes me. At best, he seems like many human fathers who pass on life, feed there kids, buy them toys, but never really invest love in the kids.
As far as people in general go, I am a good father. I have a great relationship with my grown kids and also with the grandkids. I try to explain everything I possibly can to help them know me and the world around them. Why doesn't God fully explain himself? Wants me to beg more? My faith is low? How cruel. Why are his "chosen spokesmen" so full of crap?
People don't want to die. They face mortality and want something else, something forever. They can't explain many things about life and nature and invent a system of beleifs to explain it all. They want others to confirm their beleifs and follow along. (helps feel secure). Some need to direct others to verify their own beliefs. What they can't prove they call faith. To explain immoral acts by God, they invent great long-term purposes of God.
I much prefer science. I have found theories to be much more worthy than faith. I have found much more honesty and morality in science, (after sorting through religious propaganda about science)
I have a right to DEMAND an explaination from a father who expects my love and devotion. I am happy to take that to my grave. And will.

when you were a jw did you believe in cavemen ?
by looloo ini was wandering round the natural history museum in london last week and saw the early man skeltons and learned about how they lived and what they ate etc and thought about the adam and eve who i was taught about at the kingdom hall that seemed to just ignore the fact that people lived many thousands of years ago and not just 6000 .
as a jehovahs witness how did you feel about early man skeltons being found and the dinosaurs etc and how did you manage to explain it in your own mind never mind to anyone else ?
i was told by an elder that if your given a plate of food and dont like something on the plate do you just leave it all ?

As a JW kid, my mom taught me that seashells found on mountaintops were from Noah's flood. We thought most scientists were part of a scheme to discredit God and purposefully printed anti-God theories with no basis. We were sure smart Freddie was smarter than all of them. (sigh)
Geology and astronomy have taught me a lot....we were idiots
I thought cavemen were monkey skeletons that scientists told wild stories about.

Are you sure leaving the JW religion has made your life better?. Lurkers think twice
by mankkeli inon this forum, i have carefully read most of the experiences of those who left the jw religion, i have even read experiences that have dated back to 2001, i have read the different circumstances surrounding their exits and what ensued upon leaving.
for the majority, i observed they are better remainning in the religion than leaving.
what benefit is there to strain family relationship because you want to be free?, please tell me, of what value is that freedom?,.

does it?, it rather send you back to the miseries of life without weapon to cope against the war waged by life's adversities.
Is that how you make decisions Manny? What is best your you right NOW? seems selfish

many have chosen personal discomfort for long-term gain. Think of Ruth in the bible. Think of Galilleo.
I watched generations of my family die holding to false hopes. I was fifth generation JW, my grandkids 7th generation. But my decendants will never have to live by the fickle wishy-washy doctrine and rule of the GB. I gladly suffer a bit to be an example for my kids and grandkids.

Was it the doctrine or the control that woke you up?
by Evidently Apostate ineven though i knew some of the doctrines were so convoluted they couldnt be genuine, every prophecy mentioned in the bible was simplistic and direct i still felt it was the best place to raise a family.
i felt like i could ignore the hypocrisy, manipulative and fake personalities and still have true friends and unbreakable family bonds.
even though my concience would bother me i would always try to forgive.

The Control.
I can understand being wrong and stubborn (who isn't sometimes)
But it is the iron fisted control and manipulation that first got to me. Especially when I looked back at my participation in jucical committees....shame

"Theocratic Warfare" and the Annual Report
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inone of the things i certainly noticed as a jw, and even during the time i was in bethel, was the complexities of reporting "truth.".
beginning with an observation on a personal level, i consider myself an honest person.
but something happened along the way, beginning when i pioneered.

Some secretaries are dumb at math. I knew one who would take 15 minutes and punch .15 into the calculator (instead of .25).
This reminds me of another point. Totals of all the slips makes a congregation report that is sent in to WBTS. No need to post to the individual pub cards. Most Secretaries post cards later. The individual cards are for monitoring and control purposes only. No need to track individuals....just send in a congregation summary.
