The earth is flat...
by rory-ks in...and the ship is sailing over the edge.. .
such is the state of the watch tower society..

Watchtower aint sailing over the edge. The so called south pole is in reality the actual barrier that circles the flat earth. I would however say that the WT ship is hitting one iceberg after another and 'may' sink soon unless it steers its ship on the right course. -

Watchtowers baptizing 'kids' clearly sets them up to fail in many cases. Do they tell these kids that they will be emotionally black mailed if they get disfellowshipped for doing wrong. Do these kids realise they will be shunned if they step out of line after baptism. I was baptised at 23 and had no idea that this disgusting policy was part and parcel of this high control faith group! -

Why all the secrecy in Gods organisation?
by Truthexplorer inlooking back and seeing all the secrecy and cover ups throughout wt history such as the secret elders books, the branch correspondence guidelines, the shameful lying and deceipt exposed during the arc questioning, the in-house way of dealing with things, the lack of openness to the media on issues such as blood or child abuse or anything controversial for that matter.
could this relate in some way to russell's alleged past as a freemason?
it seems quite strange that the founder of the bible students quite possibly may have been a freemason, (an organisation well known for its secrecy).

Well put Finkelstein. In fact the word 'Pretentious' sums up Watchtower. That was the view I had of Geoff (there shall be no end to shunning) Jacksons effort at the ARC hearing. That was also how I viewed that laywer Vincent Toole. His cold calculated manner really got to me. -

The impact of guilt, obligation and fear of Watchtower
by Truthexplorer ini find it very sad that people have limited choices as to whether they wish to stay or leave watchtower.
many are simply held captive as a result.
fear of losing family and friends being the biggest factor.

I find it very sad that people have limited choices as to whether they wish to stay or leave Watchtower. Many are simply held captive as a result. Fear of losing family and friends being the biggest factor. For those who choose to fade, the whole setup of Watchtower creates the situation where it becomes embarrassing to maintain friendships per se which is understandable; and good longtime friendships are affected as a result. It really grinds my gears that 7 geezers in New York can have such control over people. Where are peoples rights to religious freedom in GB's tangled web of policies? -

I should have put 'Gods exclusive Organisation' according to Watchtower. The point I was making is that secrecy is part of the culture of Watchtower, and perhaps that culture originated with Russell and his personal handling of matters. Note this isn't to have a go at Freemasons BTW. It was just to theorise as to why Watchtower has this culture of secrecy and coverups within their Organisation? -

It seems quite strange that the founder of the bible students quite possibly may have been a freemason, (an organisation well known for its secrecy). Could it be he who laid the original roots as to keepng things 'in house' particularly when controversies arose. As a possible freemason, Russell would have treated secrecy with respect and high importance. This method of thinking would then be passed to the degree with which we see today in the media as outlined above. It seems rather odd that the WT organisation appears to go to such incredible lengths to keep many things 'secret'. Just a theory! -

So........a grown adult manipulates a young lad into a sexual relationship. The elders dont report this to the authorities and instead keep it in house. They then mete out THEIR justice by disfellowship both the abuser and the victim ie a young 14 year old lad? Incredible!!!!! -

I saw Paul Gillies give a talk in Glasgow once and can honestly say he was incredibly wooden and bland in his delivery. He comes over as very matter of fact as opposed to expressing himself from the heart. -

What authority have the GB got left to them?
by Half banana in( jw governing body members are invited to respond) .
however professional and glossy their pr makeover is, as seen on jw tv and the jw org logo... the bottom line is that 19th century religious adventist claims are no longer sexy..
to outsiders the jw org now has all the allure of a donkey wearing lipstick..

Very good OP. I thinks slimboyfats take on things is in a nut shell a factor as to why so many of us remain despite knowledge of the facts that we are being led by a handful of deluded dudes in NY. The social factor also holds sway, particularly if raised as a JW. Of course adding to this the whole cruel shunning policy for simply choosing to leave 'officially' is the cherry on the icing as to why people don't leave. The GB need to stop being so totalitarian in their harsh authoritarian policies which are putting so many people off and instead bring in the Christ like 'Christian' authority that the rank need.
