but our situation is very difficult and quite high profile.... i was raised as a jw and my mother was very strict and abusive.

i got baptized at age 14.. my mother actually called on my (present) husband's mom in service.

she was on the initial call resulting in his mom coming in the truth and him being raised in it from about age 8 or 9.. despite a very abusive step-father, he followed his mom's lead and came into the truth.

My husband's kids have limited their association and communication with him but they said as soon as he is back, they want to be much bigger part of his life.

That is emotional blackmail, not the natural affection of children for their parent. The way the WT Society teaches their members to treat those they disfellowship is reminiscent of the "Parental Alienation" that often follows a contentious divorce. The WT policies are using the children as a tool to control your husband and you. This is the behavior of a bitter, vengeful ex-spouse.

so, after 3 and a bit winters in canada i finally invested in a set of winter tires.

up till now i've had a good set of all-seasons (goodyear assurance tripletred) and they have been very good even coping with a sudden calgary freeze last winter that saw accordian buses sliding back down the hill we were on (scary!

) and general chaos on the roads.. but, driving on the deerfoot on solid polished sheets of black-ice in rush-hour traffic is not nice and you could feel the car getting more than a little vague at times.

Absolutely--more than once, I've had to pick my way around people who couldn't get up the hill because they were polishing the ice with those so-called cable "chains". They do meet the legal minimum of the chain law, but they aren't very effective. Use what mountain truck drivers use: chains.

there is this sister in the hall i went to who is in her mid 80's.

she is very active and pioneers, etc.

well when i was still going to the meetings and out in service she would talk about how she came into the "truth.

i was defending the society as best as i could.
