The Watchtower Society feels they have a privileged position; that they alone are allowed to intrude on the family relationship. This is from the viewpoint of this ex-Unbelieving Mate:
(9) Friends and relatives can no longer take priority at the expense of the new family
Including the "Friends" at the Kingdom Hall?
(10) To the extent that it depends on you, do not let anyone or anything come between you and your mate.
Including the Watchtower Society? How many times does your UBM come home to a cold dinner and an empty house because going to "Meetings" and "Studies" is more important than time with your own family? How many Saturday mornings do you leave your spouse alone while you wear out the family car distributing the Society's publications?
(17) For example, when you make important decisions, do you first research Bible principles, pray about the matter, and then seek advice from a mature Christian?
"Evidently", only the Watchtower Organization is deemed qualified to offer such advice. "Mature Christian" means an Elder; "Bible Principles" means Watchtower publications. Why not seek advice from a neutral third party for secular matters (books written by qualified professionals, an unbiased marriage counselor or financial advisor), or with equal respect offered to your UBM's beliefs in spiritual matters (actual scripture, member of the clergy)?

Pray for our Brothers in Japan

Also, why do we need to pray? Why is it so important that I pray for the brothers in Japan? Is Jehovah's mercy and his providing emotional support and his holy spirit to the brothers of Japan contingent upon my prayers, and the total number of prayers made by other witnesses?
If you pray to affect God's plan, that is presumptuous. Prayer is about changing our own actions and attitudes, not changing God's. If you pray to align your own heart and mind with the love and mercy the Lord taught us and commanded us to follow, to make yourself some small part of that plan and show empathy and charity for those who have suffered or died because of this tragedy, that is what prayer is about.
Pray for all who are affected, not just your Witness brothers and sisters. Then help make those prayers effective by aiding the response; allow grace and the Spirit to work through you by supporting the aid agencies who are helping the victims, to the extent that you can do so. "Do unto others," etc.

Time to stop obsessing

i've seen my loss of faith like a relationship breakup, i've done the gut wrenching fear bit and i've been heavily invested in the anger and angst phase where i've sought out people who believed as strongly as i once did and challenged them (like an ex-lover calling up for a shouting match.

From what I read (on NHK's English news site), they lost the back-up generators for the coolant pumps on two different reactors, and tsunami damage prevented using mobile emergency generators to restore cooling. They are pumping seawater to cool the reactors, but major damage has already occurred.

Floral dresses on women and cheap suits and conservative 'do's on old men
by White Dove inthe jw's say that they recognized another jw they didn't know because there was just something about them, something special.. working at taco bell has allowed me to see just what that "special" is.. i was noticing their clothes and how people don't dress like that anymore.. few women wear floral ankle length dresses/skirts to work anymore.
they wear black slacks and blouses, mostly.
no old men at all wear cheap suits in public.

There is another possibility (for the teen-age males). It is possible that a young man wearing a suit and tie and carrying a briefcase on Saturday morning is on the high school debate team. Tournaments are on Saturdays, and they wear proper "business attire" for those occassions. Here's how to tell the difference: the debate team's briefcases have briefs supporting both sides of the question, and they understand and can present them both effectively.
Young lady debators aren't likely to be mistaken for Witnesses, because they wear dress-for-success business attire rather than mid-thigh floral prints. Besides the team dress code, there is a psychological angle: like their male counterparts, they wear clothes that say "I am competent, I know what I am doing, I am not intimidated." What message does a floral print dress send?
