If you're on 15 other meds and took oxy by mistake, you should talk to a doctor or pharmacist to be sure there's no interaction with anything else in your system. Get on the phone, please!

Are JWs the worst restaurant customers?
by Alfred in(a little background info before i ask my question...).
my sister-in-law (non-jw), who manages a popular chain restaurant near a kingdom hall, just found out that my wife and i have recently faded, so she decided to get something off her chest the other day... you guessed it: she wanted us to know that jws are the worst customers ever!
she then told us some really embarrassing stories about how jws would request a table for 15 to 20 people (after a sunday meeting) and then (when the bill came) some of the jws would start deliberating amongst themselves on whether or not the waiter was diligent or not (to justify the low tip he was getting anyway).

Jamie,
Some poeple have no shame. Did they fill their pockets and purses with napkins and sugar packets, too? That restaurant needs a new sign: "Restrooms for use by paying customers only".

Welcome to the forum, salsa girl!
I have put two-and two together and realised that this is the practice that is known as 'marking'. It felt like everything about me was being watched.
They slipped up when they let you experience that before you committed. I heard my Ex talking about somebody at the hall being "marked", and saw how she suddenly refused to answer phone calls from another lady who just a few weeks before had been her best friend from the Kingdom Hall. Seeing this marking and shunning in action is one major reason why I wanted no part of the Watchtower organization. Another was when an elderly gentleman from the local congregation died from internal bleeding after surgery because he refused a transfusion.
So congratulations for getting out in time, before major damage could be done!

Didn't Charles Taze Russell get some of his ideas about Christianity from the Adventists?
That is right, but it was an earlier version of Adventism. The Second Adventists, followers of William Miller, are the common ancestor of both the Seventh-Day Adventists (founded by Ellen White) and also the Bible Students of Charles Taze Russell. Other groups that sprang from Miller's Second Adventists are Christadelphians and the Branch Davidians.
Many would argue (and I agree) that the Watchtower/Jehovah's Witness organization is a different faith, an offshoot of Russell's Bible Students. Though they pay him honor as their founder, the Watchtower now considers many of Russell's teachings and practices to be heretical. Some remaining Bible Student groups, not affiliated with the Watchtower, remain closer to Russell's original teachings.

Why you should not worry about Japan's nuclear reactor problems.
by beatthesystem ina nuclear reactor is built in such a way, that when operating normally, you take out all the moderator rods.
so if these radioactive materials are released into the environment, yes, radioactivity was released, but no, it is not dangerous, at all.
when the uranium splits, it generates a neutron (see above).

Here is a good explanation of the situation, given in Toronto today by Duncan Hawthorne. He is the head of Bruce Power, operators of eight CANDU reactors.

Present some evidence for evolution...
by Spade inthere's no evidence that can't be overturned and exposed as deception in the scientific community.
jehovah's witnesses don't stonewall any new findings.
we have degree regarding adaptation.

MRSA is a good example of natural selection, aka evolution, occurring in a simple organism and happening rapidly enough for us to observe it. From cdc.gov, with emphasis added:
Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change in some way that reduces or eliminates the effectiveness of drugs, chemicals, or other agents designed to cure or prevent infections. The bacteria survive and continue to multiply causing more harm. Bacteria can do this through several mechanisms. Some bacteria develop the ability to neutralize the antibiotic before it can do harm, others can rapidly pump the antibiotic out, and still others can change the antibiotic attack site so it cannot affect the function of the bacteria.
Antibiotics kill or inhibit the growth of susceptible bacteria. Sometimes one of the bacteria survives because it has the ability to neutralize or escape the effect of the antibiotic; that one bacterium can then multiply and replace all the bacteria that were killed off. Exposure to antibiotics therefore provides selective pressure, which makes the surviving bacteria more likely to be resistant. In addition, bacteria that were at one time susceptible to an antibiotic can acquire resistance through mutation of their genetic material or by acquiring pieces of DNA that code for the resistance properties from other bacteria. The DNA that codes for resistance can be grouped in a single easily transferable package. This means that bacteria can become resistant to many antimicrobial agents because of the transfer of one piece of DNA.
The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA's) Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) produced a nine-minute animationExternal Web Site Icon explaining how antimicrobial resistance both emerges and proliferates among bacteria. Over time, the use of antimicrobial drugs will result in the development of resistant strains of bacteria, complicating clinicians' efforts to select the appropriate antimicrobial for treatment.

Translating the NWT in the Shadows
by JuanMiguel innote: the following is not meant to be construed as a recommendation but to demonstrate the sharp contrast between any authentic bible translation and the new world translation.
for those of us who participate and or read the threads on this board, i understand and appreciate that all here have different views on religion, the existence of god, and of the catholic church.
i believe each individuals convictions should be treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

I mentioned that credit must be given to JWs because they alone have printed and distributed over 165 million copies of the NWT in nearly (soon to be) 100 languages.
That is an impressive figure, but when it comes to distributing Bibles I give credit where credit is due: to the Gideons. This has been accomplished by an organization estimated to have only 130,000 members, and (like the Watchtower Society) is just over 100 years old.
It's been just over 100 years since The Gideons International placed the first Bible in a hotel room in Montana. Today, The Gideons are organized in more than 190 countries around the globe. Bibles and New Testaments are printed for distribution by The Gideons in more than 90 languages. Through God's grace and to His Glory, more than 1.6 billion Bibles and New Testaments have been placed by The Gideons, and the work continues. . .
Thanks again to both Juans for their informative posts!
