I hate JW jargon!!! (Alternatives please!)
by VampireDCLXV inall of us who have any ties to the jws know that they have their own vernacular, their own slang.
sure, there are formal titles that we can't really get away from: pioneer, ministerial servant, elder, ______ overseer, governing body, the (watchtower) society, etc.
but there are plenty of other bits of parlance they use that i can do without.... for example:.

What would man be without woman
by Star tiger ini know from my own experience that i would be a total f**k up, i would have taken the entire family into the borg, after my guilt after leaving this several years ago i am totally grateful to her for the rejection of my previous beliefs, i would have subjected the children to all the self esteem eroding ideas of a few old men in the governing body!.
i think i'm probably now a humanist, with respect for the here and now and trying to cope with the idea that people don't live forever as i see it in my weekend job of working in a nursing home, and feeling utter disgust at the governing bodies ideas at immortality which were totally wrong!.
i think it was robin williams that said if women were in control there would be no wars but intense negotiations every thirty days, lol.

Have fun, folks! As you roast your meat over an open fire under the dark of the moon tonight, remember Numbers 10:10:
"At your festivals, solemnities and new-moon feasts, you will sound the trumpets over your burnt offerings..."
Under the stars with a new moon, good food and drink, music and good company: isn't it grand not being a Witness?

To Our Canadian Neighbors
by snowbird ini learned about y'all in the second grade, and fell in love with your beautiful land.. my geography book was filled with pictures of your wheat fields, lakes, rivers, and smiling people.. one of the ancestors, an aunt of hank aaron, used to regale us with wonderful stories of her visits to your country: the cleanliness, the warmth and friendliness of the people, and the lack of overt racial prejudice.. later on, i read about the underground railroad.
my heart swelled with admiration and respect as i found out how your country welcomed fugitive slaves.. my resolve is to visit y'all one of these fine days and see for myself what i've been told.
my little jw daughter and her dad have been there, and they both agree that canada is a land of freedom and opportunity.. to the canucks on this here forum, i salute you, as you only reinforce what i've been told about y'all.

Fake Movie preview - something I do for fun...
by sd-7 ini used to write some of those on my facebook account.
i'd make up a really bad movie and come up with lines, a title, and throw some explosions in.
because previews are supposed to make the movie look 10 times better than it really is, by showing you all the coolest stuff in like, less than 3 minutes.. i had a crazy thought this morning, of like, a "based on a true story" movie about rutherford and russell.

Hmmm, shouldn't Mr. Trickle be sponsored by some brand of saw palmetto dietary supplements?
OK, back on topic.
It doesn't matter how much doubt or hidden anger or confusion a person has inside the Organization. Why? Because they don't have anyplace ELSE to go.
If I may stretch the "seed of doubt" analogy a little further, just planting it isn't enough. You need to water it and remove the weeds, so your seed can sprout and take root. When somebody says "Where else could we go?" that's a sign that they see their faith being limited to the WT organization. They think they have nowhere else to go, and that is what traps them. Show them there is a difference between their beliefs and the organization, that there is good to be found in the world beyond the walls of the Kingdom Hall.

Just wondering ....
by talesin inthere are many new posters here, and i'm very interested to learn why you chose your screen names.. .
one book i read, the mists of avalon, was very important to me.
among the main characters was merlin, who in the book, was called "taliesen".

I chose the name of a recurring character in the Firesign Theater comedy sketches, George Leroy Tirebiter. Not much went right for him, despite the best of intentions (the emcee of the fictional Beat the Reaper game show introduced him as "winner of the Academy's coveted good sport award...").
The Firesign quartet borrowed that name from a canine mascot on the USC campus. That George Tirebiter liked to chase cars and bicycles, nipping at their tires--thus his name (and also his eventual undoing).
So be careful what you chase, because if you catch it who knows what may happen next? You might become the next Un-Believing Mate to sign up at JWN!

Quite a few decided to join this past weekend.
Is that a reflection of this summer's convention agenda? Perhaps it was enough to make some fence-sitters decide they's had enough. Could it have been intended to do exactly that, to weed out the "weak ones"?

I'm running a swamp cooler and a fan. It's down to about 90 now, it was 95 a few hours ago. The cold drink helps, too.
