He said he wanted me to be his friend still and we were with the sex still and hanging out, like we were a couple still. When I called him out on this and asked whether we were dating or not he said no we are still just friends and he needs to get his life back on track and do right in his religion, so in short he picked the religion over me.
Welcome! I'm sorry your reason for coming here was is so painful. Like James Woods said, this happens much too often.
He wasn't just picking the religion over you, he was using you. He was playing the good JW at the Kingdom Hall while breaking every rule he can get away with. He wants all the "benefits", but he isn't interested in being a genuine friend (friends are honest). I'm sorry to have to say this so harshly, but you deserve somebody who will treat you with respect and honesty, while he deserves somebody who will do unto him as he does unto others. Walking away is probably the best thing to do.

Songs that are atmospheric
by FlyingHighNow inthis is a song thread that will take a little thought.
i'd like for you to share songs that sound atmospheric and conjure up feelings of night air or a smokey room, the energy of the ocean's roar or capture the joy of a party or celebration.
the songs can be transportive and take you other places by their sound and the visuals they evoke from the stories they tell.. my first one is from tim mcgraw.

Did Church fathers and Jesus see the Bible as metaphor?
by leavingwt indoes anyone here believe that jesus viewed genesis as being a metaphor?
if they believed it to be a historical account about real people, what are the implications?
as a jw, i wasn't allowed to publicly entertain such questions.

Seeing "the Bible" as a single work to be read literally is a fallacy, a fallacy that dilutes comprehension of the texts.
It is an anthology of many works, written in different eras, using different styles for different audiences and purposes, in the cultural context of the time each book was written. It has literal histories, it has historical legends, it has theological and philosphical studies, it has morality tales.
Some is literal, some is metaphoric, some is philospohical. "All scripture is instructive," but only when read with the literary and cultural context in mind.

Godwin's Law of JWN---Need help naming it!
by NewChapter infirst, a definition of godwin's law:.
godwin's law (also known as godwin's rule of nazi analogies or godwin's law of nazi analogies[1][2]) is a humorous observation made by mike godwin in 1990[2] that has become an internet adage.
it states: "as an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving nazis or hitler approaches 1.

How about hijacking a "theocratic" word?
Law of Old Light? Then you could hijack a net cliche too, and call them out with an "LOL"

How will Obamacare affect the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society?
by The_Present_Truth ini'm not sure if this has been addressed here or not but i've been curious as to how obamacare stands to affect the wtbts and those serving at it's branches in the usa?
has anyone looked at this?
seems the catholics are all shook up about what obamacare stands to "make" them provide their "employees".

With the Watchtower's organization structure (mostly volunteer labor that doesn't get health insurance through the organization) and practices (their services, such as they are, are directed to members) I suspect they are not worried about the HHS regulations. They don't run schools, hospitals, universities, orphanages, etc. that would be affected.

He is an active JW and I am a practising Church of England person. ... I've agreed to do a Bible Study with an open mind, but I just wish we could be together as we are, with compromises on both sides.
Has he agreed to attend Church of England services with you? Is he studying C.O.E. teachings, and open-minded about your beliefs? Are you aware of just how contemptuously the Watchtower speaks of all other religions? A one sided "compromise" is really no better than surrender.
Some do manage to survive, even thrive in a mixed Watchtower-Christian marriage, but it is a very difficult path to follow. Having been there myself, done that, and yes, paid the lawyer when things fell apart, I urge you to consider the situation most carefully.
