Keep the promise you made to your father. Be kind and help your mother. You know you're doing the right thing, so don't let your sister stop you.

JW sister told my newly widowed mom that it would "look bad"if
by aquagirl inif i took her to the memorial this year.im df'd for years, but out of love and respect for my parents i always gave them this one night.my mum dosent drive.i was going to drive her and sit by her.i promised my dad that i would always do this for him.he was pretty cool, even tho he was an elder.my "devout" sister {who has never lifted a finger to help my parents}told her yesterday that it "wouldnt look good" for me to show up w/my mum, altho everyone knows that i have done everything for my parents, both before my dad died in december and since.
is my sister just jealous that i have a fabulous life,am beautiful, rich,a guitar god, have excellent cool hair, xray vision, can communicate with aliens and have supernatural abilities?

Ladies- did you treat the assemblies like a fashion show?
by JimmyPage inwas the major draw for you being able to wear a new dress?
or to put your kids in cute little outfits?
surely it wasn't the mind-numbing talks..

My Ex certainly did: manicure, hair color, new dress, impractical shoes, her best jewellery, the works! She never did understand that I find displays of vanity unattractive, that she had a lot more to offer than a pretty package. I never dared to quote 1Tim2:9-10 to her: the doghouse isn't very comfortable!
Similarly, women are to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braided hair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes; their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
That would be a nice topic for an assembly talk, don't you think?

Just for MEN
by YoursChelbie inlast time i went to cvs pharmacy, they had a big a sale sign for this haircolor for men.. do men really care if the are getting grey hair?
for women, the pressure is to do every thing you can to hide it, if your hair starts.
to turn grey.
-

I leave the grey alone. I'm over fifty, I've raised kids, so if my hair wasn't grey everybody would know it was fake. Besides, with my DNA inheritance, I'm lucky just to have enough hair to worry about it--Dad was bald before he turned 40!

Validity of JW Baptism
by maputo95 inplease could someone tell me what is said in a jw baptism?
i was told that jw baptisms are invalid because they do not baptise in the "name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit.
because of this invalid baptism a catholic cannot marry a jw with church approval, i think.

Because of this invalid baptism a Catholic cannot marry a JW with church approval, I think. They are NOT considered Christians.
In principal, a Catholic could marry a Witness. Permission must be obtained for any mixed Catholic-non Catholic marriage (if it is to be a sacramental marriage, considered valid by the Church). The real impediment to marrying a Witness is found at the end of this article of the Catechism: the Witness must allow the Catholic party to pratice the faith and remain in the Church, and the children must be baptized and educated in the Catholic Church. No faithful Witness could honestly agree to that!
1635 According to the law in force in the Latin Church, a mixed marriage needs for liceity [#] the express permission of ecclesiastical authority. In case of disparity of cult [*] an express dispensation from this impediment is required for the validity of the marriage. This permission or dispensation presupposes that both parties know and do not exclude the essential ends and properties of marriage; and furthermore that the Catholic party confirms the obligations, which have been made known to the non-Catholic party, of preserving his or her own faith and ensuring the baptism and education of the children in the Catholic Church.
The non-scriptural form of JW baptism does mean that if they wish to convert to Catholicism, they must be baptised again, "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit". That is not the case for most Protestant sects, because they do baptize in the Christian form: the church considers anyone baptized according to Matt 29 to be Christians, whether or not they are Catholic.
Glossary of peculiar words and phrases
[#] "Licety" means the marriage is "licit" (valid, legal): the opposite of "illicit"
[*] "Disparity of cult" means of different religions

Scientology really is a lot like the JW's
by dissed inat the edge of arid foothills far outside los angeles, hundreds of scientology followers live on a gated, 500-acre campus and work long hours for almost no pay reproducing the works of founder l. ron hubbard and creating the church's teaching and promotional materials.. the church says its 5,000 so-called sea organization members are religious devotees akin to monks who are exempt from wage requirements and overtime.
but two lawsuits filed by two former sea org members, as they are known, allege the workers are little more than slave laborers, forced to work 100-hour weeks for pennies and threatened with manual labor if they cause trouble.. i don't feel the wt's bethel is quite this bad,...... but it's not far from it.
(as one who used to work there says) lol.

And another: they don't want outsiders or new recruits to know everything they really teach and require of their members. You don't find out until you're already hooked and under the organization's control.

Lying for 'The Truth'?
by TTWSYF inmy bro introduced me to a concept called 'lying for the truth'.
is that actually something that the watchtower promotes?
talk about a contridiction, i didn't think it could be true that such a practice would be tolerated, but he says so.

How can a "spirit-inspired, scripture based" organization justify "Theocratic Warfare"?
(Lev 5:1, 5) If someone sins in any of these following cases: He should have come forward to give evidence when he heard the formal adjuration, having seen the incident or known the facts; but he has not spoken out, and so bears the consequences of his guilt; ... [5] if he is answerable in any of those cases, he will have to confess the sin committed.
(Lev 19:12) You will not swear by my name with intent to deceive and thus profane the name of your God. I am YHWH.
Compare this to how the Watchtower recommends children be coached to testify, according to Page 43 of Preparing for Child Custody Cases:
Be careful that they don't get the impression that they are in a demonstration at the circuit assembly, when they would show that the first things in life are service and going to the Kingdom Hall. Show hobbies, crafts, social activity, sports, and especially plans for the future.
Compare this to telling "the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth."

Can I bring my own stuff to the memorial?
by outofthebox inlet's say i am an anointed one, but i don't like the taste of the crackers and wine the congregation got the last time.
can i bring my own wine and crackers to partake tonight?
yes or no?
-
GLTirebiter
One hall I went to was so damn cheap they used home made wine that a brother provided (it was his hobby...one that we wasn't too good at) and a sister made the crackers/bread.
That ought to dissuade any would-be partakers!

Why Women Are Crabby
by Lady Lee inwhy women are crabby.
we started to 'bud' in our blouses at 9 or 10 years old only to find that anything that came in contact with those tender, blooming buds hurt so bad it brought us to tears.
so came the ridiculously uncomfortable training bra contraption that the boys in school would snap until we had calluses on our backs.. .

LOL for Lady Lee's post, and nodding in agreement with Terry.
