  Would you say anything to someone that is accepting JW literature ?

  there is a woman at the place i work that has studied off and on for several yrs with one of the jw employees .

  today i was in her office and i noticed in her bookcase a collection of jw literature .

  she has the insight books , a revelation book and some other brochures .

  She is a facebook friend of mine. Maybe what would be better is to start a blog on there sharing my forty yrs experience growing up as a Jehovah's Witness. That way she can at least see a different perspective.

  That sounds like a good idea, put the information out there for her to see without being aggressive about it. Remember, she is being told to expect resistance, so the more gentle tactics are more likely to get good results. Leave that lifeline out where she will find it!

  edited to add: Be sure to include links to articles on Freeminds, JWN, etc. in your blog. Make it easy to find the non-WT point of view.

  Car inspection woes

  i'm sure texas isn't much different from any other state.. we want clean air.

  so, the auto manufacturers came up with a glorified box of charcoal that "filters" out the pollutants (simultaneously making the energy output less efficient requiring yet more fuel) called a catalytic converter.. most cars' converter lasts about 10 years.. .

  i'm driving a honda accord from 1998. the coverter has given up the ghost and i don't pass the nox tests.. so.... i can't renew my registration and have to spend about $1700 to replace that stupid box of charcoal.. .

  Terry, do you know for sure the catalyst is the problem? There are other things that cause high NOx levels. Check for simpler things that could make the engine run too lean or too hot, such as vacuum leaks, fuel injector problems, a bad oxygen sensor, wrong ignition timing and a stuck or clogged EGR valve (if your car has one, most do). The EGR is there for NOx reduction, and being a moving part exposed to scorching hot exhaust gas it doesn't last forever. I'm not saying the catalyst didn't fail, but be sure the problem isn't something easier and cheaper to fix before replacing something that expensive.

  If you haven't had the diagnostic codes read out from the engine control computer, that is a good place to start. Or find a good independent mechanic who specializes on Hondas, they will know what the most common problems are for your model.

  Good luck, I hope you can get it fixed without mortgaging the homestead!

  even if i dont really celebrate it like...i'm suppose to be going out for karokee tonight with a friend, then doing something with another friend on the 26th.

  two more years and i'll be the big 3-0. man, how time passes.

  just some years ago, i was just a breast fed child running wild!.

  They just mentioned Jehovah's Witnesses as fastest growing denomination on ABC World News

  was watching abc world news and they showed the religions/denominations with most increase and those that are experiencing decreases.. the j.w.

  's was number 1 on increase while most of the larger main stream churches where losing members.. they have already posted a link on the news website...will post it in just a few..

  What is the source of their figures? Does it include every unbaptized publisher, active Witness and fader? Is it a count of Memorial attendees? The only figure that really matters is the active members, not hangers-on, once a year attendees and MIAs.

  Books to Read

  Go browse around a used book store, you never know what will catch your eye and come home with you. Lately I've been reading a Sherlock Holmes anthology and the collected short stories of Poe. Before that was The Oddessey. Waiting on the shelf, Dante's Divine Comedy. Anything that passes the test of time is likely to be worth reading.

  Welcome, IC&TKI, though I'm sorry it is under such sad circumstances. I'm especially sorry to hear about your father's premature passing.

  It is disgusting that they are so demanding of everybody else's time and energy just for the sake of appearances. It is disgusting how they belittle their partners for "not being spiritual enough", not only to you but also speaking ill of you to all the other "brothers and sisters". Somehow, they have convinced themselves that doing so is a fine example of "headship" in a "christian marriage".

  Do consider going to college, it's not too late. And keep yourself and your children away from that organization before it does you any more harm.

  It is, as the article says, a tool for "examination of conscience". It is not an app that performs or replaces a confession, it's a reminder note to help the penitent remember what they came for.

  The vatican said no way, never, no way. The bishop has been seriously rebuked. Face to face contact is essential.

  Either way, don't matter...absurdity.

  That is a matter of opinion. Admitting your sins to yourself is a major part of reconciliation. First you recognize the changes you need to make in yourself, then you can take action to make those changes happen. The first such action is seeking the grace to make those changes. The essence of the sacrament is that you declare your repentance and ask God's grace and assistance to do that. It is not a kangaroo court where they tell you what your sins are.

  And of course, it's monetized.

  $1.99? Give me a break, nobody is getting rich at that price. That is far less than the "suggested contribution" for a year's worth of Watchtowers and Awakes!

  Other religions small and large don't show the same integrity and Bible insight that they do.

  Other religions aim to interpret the Bible with integrity and insight into what message the authors were offering, conscious of the differences in language and cultural context between us and people who lived in distant lands thousands of years ago.

  Unlike them, the Watchtower Society interprets the Bible disingenuously, using strained translations of select, isolated verses divorced from their written and cultural context, all to support their unorthodox, anti-Christian doctrines. It is reprehensible that the Watchtower uses little snippets of scripture to completely subvert the message of the Bible:

  • As we forgive those who trespass against us becomes Hate in the truest sense
  • Mosaic dietary law becomes a call to suicide/homicide by refusing/denying medically appropriate use of blood
  • Take and eat to have eternal life becomes Do not partake!
  • No one knows the date, save the Father alone becomes reliable biblical chronology
  • A warning to always be diligent, prepared and vigilant becomes an appointment as the faithful, discrete slave
  • I am the way, the truth and the light becomes the spirit-directed organization
  • Nobody comes to the Father except through Me becomes God's appointed channel

  i love cartoons but i'm not much into the ones on tv today, except south park.

  my favorites are the looney tunes characters, pink panther and some of the hanna barbera characters like snagglepuss, droopy, etc.. here is an old pink panther episode from 1965 that cracks me up.

  What the law says...

  ...is not always what the law actually means.. that idea might sound like doublethink at first, but it's a basic principle of every legal system and there are several very valid reasons for this.. first: a simple, mechanical reading of law can run counter to what the law was actually intended to accomplish.
