When you put it up doesn't make a lot of difference. What matters is when it was cut, and how it is maintained after that. Make a new, fresh cut at the bottom when you put it up, and never let its water pan go dry. Or use an artificial tree (as I do), especially if you're going to be away for any length of time so you can't keep an eye on the water.

Christmas tree phobia...is not crazy
by Glander inthere is probably nothing more dangerous you could have in your home than a 5 week old fir tree that has gotten dry and crispy.. keep a box of dynamite under the bed or leave a loaded gun where the kids can get at it, nothing has more potential for disaster than one of these tree bombs.. i have spent many a sleepless night with one of these in the house, counting the days until christmas so i could get it out of the house.
i hate them.
we have gone to a fold-up plastic table top since all the kids left home and we only have that because the g-kids always want to see a tree when they are over.. christmas trees - bah humbug!.

Help requested for court case
by Anony Mous ini am looking for court cases and news reports on underage children being denied blood transfusions and as a result either having the court intervene or death.
any report especially 2008-2011 will work very well.. also any jw publication that says jw's die rather than accepting blood.
also any jw publication that encourages this practice in regards children especially official documents and recent publications (2005-2011 or whenever the last doctrinal change was).. .

Someone posted an excellent brief for JW child support cases
Watchtower custody pamphlet links: Freeminds.org critique (this is not the complete text, but does cite pertinent sections your lawyer should be aware of), and a prior thread on JWN. You didn't say of there was already a custody agreement in place--that is an area where you need professional help, somebody who knows both the laws where you live and also has experience with how the local court and judges have ruled in similar cases.
I hope it turns out well for you!

If you want it mainly for reading books, keep the black-and-white model. Battery life is far longer (long battery life is what the black and white displays were designed for), and I prefer a device that does the book reading job really well to a jack-of-all-trades that sacrifices that function just to do other things best done by other tools.
Only get color if you want web-browsing, photos, software apps, and the like on the same device. If you do want all those functions in one package, IMO, a tablet computer with an ebook reader app is a better choice because it has a better quality, larger screen.
FWIW, I use a black-and-white Kindle with the mini keyboard. The keyboard is good enough to take short notes and make highlights while you read. It only need charging about once a month; no problem with the battery not lasting through a long plane flight. If needing a reading light is a problem (such as for reading in bed), the same kind of LED clip-on reading light you can use on a paper book will work for the e-book reader.

The Real Purpose of Shunning Holidays
by metatron inthe watchtower endlessly prates on about pagan traditions in popular holidays - while the bible itself is loaded with subtle pagan religious ideas - such as wicked spirits being cast "into tartarus" (a pagan greek place in which the rebels against zeus got imprisoned) or "sacred secret" - a term the apostle paul likes that was adopted from pagan 'mystery' religions.. then we can throw in the reference to being divinely 'called christians' in acts - which uses a pagan term that refers to demonic oracles of the day.. of course, the watchtower has no objection to accumulating millions of pieces of paper that feature occult symbols (any dollar bill!).
in recent years, for good measure, they have added birthdays and thanksgiving to the official banned list, despite the sketchiest justification for doing so.
if birthdays are wrong simply because they figure in two negative accounts, then it makes much more sense to ban dogs as pets because of all the negativity in the bible about them!.

Like going door to door, like refusing to salute the flag, like refusing blood transfusions, like other practices "unique to Jehovah's Witnesses": disrespect for holidays is a sign of Watchtower membership, as well as a loyalty test. Those are the real purposes that are never spoken of.

most Anglo-saxon people think it is a new religion and do not realise it is the one before Catholicism split away (hehe - I am waiting for some Catholics to pounce on me for that one).
There will be no pouncing on my part. I see it as a mutual parting of ways, with the western churches based in Rome and the eastern churches associated with Constantinople. Even with more than a thousand years passing after the division, Catholic teachings still are closer to the Orthodox churches than those of many Protestant groups. Not to mention that Orthodox Christians recognize more books of the Bible than even we Catholics do!

Ixthis, it's good to see you here again!
Do Orthodox christians use advent wreaths? We lit our final candle this past Sunday, as we begin the fourth week of Advent.
