comparing elduhs to doctors is ludicrous imo. doctors go to school for YEARS to learn how to perform their trade. years and years of higher education. elduhs dont. they are window washers with god complexes.

June 15th WT ( again) JW's told " Elders are Imperfect " Give them a Break
by flipper inthis is one subject that really annoyed me when i was a jehovah's witness - and i find it still annoys me after being out 7 years from the jw's.
the title of this jw only wt study article is " have regard for those who are working hard among you ".
in my opinion there always seemed to be a double standard in which rank and file publishers were always told to be patient with elders shortcomings - however if rank and file publishers slipped up - elders would be into admonishing and disciplining them like flies attracted to dung with no delay.

I'm on the front page of AOL o.O
by brizzzy inhey guys, so the book came out today.
my story and the book are on the front page of aol news right now (and i was just on npr and heading into another npr interview right now): http://www.parentdish.com/2011/04/26/brianna-karp-girls-guide-to-homelessness/?icid=maing-grid7|main5|dl5|sec1_lnk2|58386.
some of the jw stuff is mentioned and of course there are a few jws and jw apologists flooding the comments section proclaiming my apostate-ness ;).

that's amazing bri! i am very happy that everything worked out for you! and very eyeopening. i want to have more empathy towards people now, despite their plight. definitely a reversal of JW mentality.

Want to quit Bible study
by confusedstudent inhi i was just looking for some advice.
i have been studying with the jw's for over a year now, and attended 2 memorials and the district/assembly conventions.
at first, and up until very recently i truly believed what i was learning was the truth.

perfectly understandable confusedstudent. maybe you should just explain that you no longer believe it and that it is not open for discussion. if they really are your friends, they will be your friends throughout. most of us know that jw friendships are entirely conditional but that is not always the case. just be honest and stick to your guns. who knows? perhaps you might even cause some to liberate themselves.
just my 2 cents

In general, what is the ethically correct response if a minor tells you someone is molesting him/her?
by InterestedOne ini was thinking about what the elders are trained to do versus what i personally would do if a minor confided in me that someone was molesting him/her.
i'm not sure what the ethically correct first response should be.
my first thought is to contact some kind of law enforcement that specializes in investigating situations like this with people experienced in getting to the truth of the matter.

and egghead weighs in with his ridiculous comments ...
where i live, it is the legal responsibility of every citizen and resident to report any such incident to the police. failure to do so is considered a crime. imho, anyone who has to check with a legal department first is just a buck-passer.
