Right to Die Issue Terminally Ill, Hopelessly Paralized, Etc..What Are Your Thoughts?
by frankiespeakin infirst off let me say this is not about me, i'm happy and healthy.
it really about all the suffering i see people going thru.
examples in my family over the years have caused me to think very seriously this.. i could give you a couple of examples and i'm sure some of our posters can tell other horror stories they'd witnessed where perhaps it would have been much better for them and their family if they could have passed away painlessly and with much more dignity.. one of my sisters developed breast cancer and died after about a 12month struggle, we saw her waste away to just skin and bones, it was hard on me as well as her two young children and husband.

Second, his own father warned the government about this kid and yet, he was issued a US visa in 2008 and made trips back and forth from that point on and didn't get put on the watch list ...
Yeah, I was wondering about this too! Especially since the UK denied his last request for a visa.

I do feel also that there are some people because of severe economic problem or chronic depression should be allowed by the state to end there pain and suffering in a dignified way especially if no cure exist for them.
I totally agree. I think anyone should have the right to die. There are worse things than death.

Calling all Americans!!!
by LucyA inwhy are americans so paranoid about the government?.
please understand im in no way trying to be disrespectful to your country im just trying to understand why their seams to be an outcry every time someone mentions the government legislating over something eg healthcare.
although i dont trust our pollies i would never withdraw my support without at least reading the legislation first.

US publisher report for last year - "official" numbers from Society letter
by sir82 indidn't see this posted anywhere, my apologies if this is a repeat..... in a letter to all congregations dated 12/9/09, the society wrote out some highlights of the previous service year.
the letter is to be read to the congregation "at the first service meeting after its receipt".. here are the numbers they report (all numbers are for us only):.
-- average publishers - 1,096,502. this is about a 4% increase (3.5% if you don't round) over the prior year's average of 1,059,253.. -- that "4% increase" in average publishers is the largest since 1992.

Didn't they drop the number of hours required to be a publisher?

I overheard a nauseating conversation . . .
by 144001 ini was in the produce section of a local market, when i happened to overhear the following comment: "we celebrate christ's birth every day of the year, not just on christmas!
" i turned and knew the nature of the source of the comment immediately, judging by the polyester pantsuit and delusional "deer in headlights" look on her face.
her companion replied, "but i like celebrating christmas and don't see anything wrong with it.

How could that woman say JWs celebrate Jesus's birth every day when they don't celebrate anyone's birthday?
I was always told that we celebrated Jesus's death, since that was the whole reason he was important.

If I'm right and the Jehovah's Witnesses are wrong, I've left a controlling, maniuplative sham of a religion. I no longer worship a god who is (at best) disinterested in me. I no longer close my eyes to perfectly logical information because it's not printed by the Watchtower. I don't alientate friends, family, and the rest of society by being willing to accept the benefits of their beliefs but unwilling to participate in the systems that provide said benefits.
If I'm wrong and the Jehovah's Witnesses are right, then I'll be dead. I had the chance at eternal life and threw it away. There's no hell, and I have no soul, so for all intensive purposes I'll be "sleeping" for the rest of eternity. I'd miss out on living in a paradise on Earth, free from sickness and death, filled with people who've never really liked me anyway. I'd have a pet lion, but I would not have all the people for whom I care and who care for me.
I am convinced that I win either way. If the best "doom" you can come up with is my inevitable death, then bring it.
