Have you ever read her autobiographical novel,"I know why the caged bird sings"?I read this book about 9 years ago--it's an outstanding read! I think the book goes beyond "incest," and takes the reader on a black girls experience of growing up in the South. You're right, some "religious right wingers" would have problems with the honest language in the book. Maya Angelou also teaches at a college (I can't recall the name) and is very active in her church. I don't care for her religious views today, but admire her writing and empowerment skills. She's a neat person!

I've seen comments like this from several lists I've been on over the years--as others said, don't take it personal. Simon has set up a very good discussion board that's user friendly, and has attracted new and old alike. Sure, when groups are small they take on the small town flavor of everyone knowing the names of the kids and grandchildren. There are benifits of staying small, but it doesn't encourage new blood and fresh ideas. Yeah, larger can be a pain because crap happens, but that's why god created the Delete button on the sixth day. I really enjoy the bigger groups because they tend to challenge me more than the small ones.
I enjoy your postings, and always stop and actually read your posts. Hell, I don't read my own stuff because I recognize quality material, and don't waste time with the rest. You, and many others add quality to this forum--and it doesn't matter if one is old or new to the group.

i thought, when suzi first posted this, that it was a joke something like john cleese's classic "brontosaurus theory" skit in a monty python episode.
but mr. "dark clouds" has sort of asked me to critique it as if it were a serious theory, so here goes.. i'll address this to suzi, but suzi dear, don't take this too seriously.

I gave her a new air conditioner, concrete driveway, and a new lawn mower.
I didn't know they called the hand-held fans passed out at funeral homes with a picture of Jesus "air conditioners." Yeah, I'll bet Zazu appreciates the lawn mower you picked up at the gargage sale; she didn't know they made them without motors--what a gem. BTW, I saw your "concrete dirveway" the other day, and was glad you could use the broken pieces from your neighbors old sidewalk--it looks very new age. See what happens when you back out of beer night at the pub?

we've posted many comments on their response on various threads, such as on qwerty's topic "wt-faq on shunning--" just yesterday.. this morning i went to that site to copy it, and it seems to be gone....unless i'm not awake yet.. is it gone or did i somehow miss it?.
also....i did a 'search' on their official site, on the word "shunning" ... result was "no results" so i changed it to "disfellowshipping" and the article on "child custody" came back as the only reference.

he is quite a remarkable person, who has written extensively on many and varied subjects including a book on the titanic disaster, ayn rand, jehovahs witnesses, and isabel paterson, a contemporary of ayn rand.
he knows more about jws than even most informed apostates, although he has never been a jw.

You're right, Ayn Rand had some absolute ideas that if taken to their full measure might create a world with greater chasms then we already have. Yet I enjoy her writings, and she really makes one think.
Carl Sagan is one of my favorite writers, too. It's sad he died at an early age.

If we did that as JWs, we wouldn't have been JWs. I have some fundamental differences with some of Ayn Rand's conclusions about modern society and industrialization, however she encouraged individuals to use their brains for empowerment--not a bad concept.
