I'm not sure how you removed 10 years from Schnell's book, but after reading his story, he should have been sentenced to 10 years for no documentation and poor writing.

No, I think you're thinking of, Thirty Years a Watch Tower Slave, by William J. Schnell. However, you could be right about the author's name I'm looking for.

Goodness, I haven't thought about MacMillan, and Faith on the March for many years! I used to have a copy somewhere, now I'll need to see if it can be found.
BTW, there was another guy (was his name Cole) who wrote a book I believe in the 1950s who tried to pass himself off as an unbiased reporter. It soon became apparent he was nothing more than a JW doing an info-mercial for the Tower. Does anyone remember the book title, and author?

faith in god is a bit like playing the lottery.. you have to sacrifice 1 a week, but you might just win.
you may as well, it's not much of a sacrifice, infact it helps people (lottery money helps projects/investments), but the prize is well worth winning.. anyone like my anallergy (is that how you spell it?).

No, I can't give you a convincing reason to believe in fairy tales. However, some fairy tales have value in that they promote fairness and values. Some are about trolls hiding under bridges using fear and control to frighten and murder little children and their parents.
I don't see anything wrong with following your bliss and picking a myth, just don't get religious about it. When that happens people become hateful, self-righteous, and wish others a painful death for not believing their religious theory. Of course, you can always believe in yourself if mythology doesn't work.

Yerusalyim doesn't wear a tie, so can we really consider him as elder? I'll bet he doesn't have a 4-door car either; what kind of example would that be for the congregation? However, I wear a tie and have a van--that's the only qualifications elders need, isn't it?

according to apostates, god and his word can't be trusted because the bible is unreliable and jehovah god is a baby killer and murderer of innocent people.
trusting the watchtower is out of the question, because obviously, the whole thrust of the apostasy is aimed at discrediting the watchtower so as to create wicked suspicions and distrust in the minds of trusting ones, apparently with some success.

I find the topic of the Holy Spirit interesting because I never felt it or witnessed it as an elder. It's one of the nebulous things talked about as Witnesses, but who really felt it? The fact is, if any JW claimed they personally felt the Holy Spirit, other Witnesses would accuse them of "running ahead of the organization." Can you imagine a Witness giving a talk in the TMS saying, "The Holy Spirit directed me to the following conclusions on this topic?" A JW saying that would be in the back library with the elders before they could mark 3 "W"s on the Counsel Sheet.
Holy Spirit should be called Holy Smoke by the Witnesses; it's a term used to cloud the idea of a publishing firm acting like God.

I admire any JWs who come to this board--seems hard to put up with a lot of the comments here.
I admire former JWs coming to this board separated from family and loved ones because of the abusive treatment of the Watchtower Society.
I believe in things provable. I don't believe in the fairy tales of others--what does that make me?

The problem you apostates face either way is this: You are taking one heck of a risk and the consequences for failure could not be greater.
I agree Vienna--the above insults should not be posted! There are many former JWs in the process of healing from the abuse of the Watchtower Society on this forum. Why should they be subjected to the above abuse? Like most victims coming out of abusive relationships, victims of spiritual abuse are apt to strike out at abusers. When that happens, it's a shame others use religion trying to make the abused feel guilty.
I've seen many Witnesses exiting the Tower treated with kindness and love on this forum. However, when someone starts off a thread like the quote above, don't expect ex-Witnesses to take crap, and be nice. They did that for years as JWs, and don't need to continue acting dysfunctional anymore. Jehovah's Witnesses are welcome to post honest questions, and they'll be treated with kindness. But when a person acts like a jerk, they should be treated like a jerk; otherwise how do they learn acceptable behavior--how do they grow by getting away with treating others disrespectfully?
