could the wbts change anything about it's beliefs that would entice you back to the religion?.
or are you firmly against the wbts no matter what?.
even if it changed it's rules on shunning, blood, "worldly things" ?.
Can't think of anything the Watchtower could do for me to return. I've made many changes in life since leaving, but Witnesses are in a state of suspended mental stagnation. What's to go back to?

i think that is one reason why i mourn so much for the past.
i think instead of wishing for my life to return to a certain era i should be thankful for the friends i have met and the experiences i have had because of change.
Nice seeing you, larc; it's been too long since we talked. Most of the students are gone during Christmas Break, so I'm able to enjoy this list while catching up on a few things in my office.
It's true, good can come out of changes that in themselves are not welcome. Your example of a "better attitude about life and what she wants out of life" demonstrates the point. Life-threating events can have the effect of compressing life into a short story, and the abstract comes into focus. Of course it was there all along, but lost in the milieu of the novel's long daily grind.
Some people can refocus after "a significant physical problem" (i.e., negative change), which is a healthy defense or coping mechanism, but not a requirment to refocus. I could go blind tomorrow, and become suicidal until I die. You could suffer the same disease, and have a different outcome. Was change good or bad?
BTW, I'm glad Jan is doing well. We really do need to get together over a brew.

Change is . . . well a change. Change in itself isn't good or bad, it's simply something different. The difference can be good, bad, or indifferent. Embracing "change is good" jumps to the conclusion that change is ALWAYS GOOD. We can all think of changes that were profoundly good, and without much effort we can think of changes that were disasters.
Change is good if we measure the outcome favorably. That doesn't mean change is always necessary, or for that matter--good. Consulting firms love to introduce so-called change in ways of doing business or treating employees. They come up with little sayings like, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem." Sometimes that's true, but don't forget, "If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem" (Despair, Inc.). :-)

In other words, don't call the police or report to the authorities as required by many states in the US. Elders are not capable of investigating such matters, and the Society knows it! This policy is a cover-up that protects the child molester, thus puttting the child and other children at risk.
On the other hand at times news reports may quote apostate or unreliable sources.
If the Tower doesn't like the news, they shoot the messenger (i.e., calling them "apostate(s) or unreliable sources"). Of course, the Society has a history of using "unreliable sources" for their quotes; perhaps they'll site these sources as "apostate" in the footnotes. It's hard to believe I used to buy their craziness.

3. How long out: 22 years
4. Symptoms as JW: depression & anxiety (during last half of JW history, about 12 years)
5. Symptoms today: No symptoms that are listed on this survey. The depression and anxiety I had as a JW left after a few years, and altogether when my JW spouse and I divorced.
6. Degree of happiness today: 5--Much more happy (I must be living in the "New System of Things!) :-)

Zazu--I think Larc should take you to the healing waters of Daytona Beach South! As you know, I'm not a regular on JW-related sites at this time, and a week went by before Larc sent a e-mail. (That boy is slower than molasses in January.) I'm so pleased you're home and improving each day. When Molinda and I return to Dayton in a few weeks, we'll stop by with a take-out marguarita from Pepitos. In the mean time, Larc should take you to Daytona Beach South--the ocean and seafood is great--he owes it to you. I know a fews docs who will write a script for it, too. (ok lets add this on)do those who are or were governing body members have a greater amount of responsability than witnesses in general?at what point do we stop being victims and become instigaters?

I don't post very much, but want to reply to this thread. Like most of us, I'm sure Raymond believed the Watchtower Society was God's only true religion. When he and a hand full at Brooklyn started to see some major problems with the Tower's theology, he didn't hide behind the comfortable walls of the Governing Body and live out his life as a junior Pope. He is the only member of the Governing Body to exit, and expose the problems within. The "Does Ray Franz owe us an apology" question seems to overlook his actions, and the countless people he has helped in the past 20 years. I believe his actions speak louder than saying, "I'm sorry." Of course he's sorry for the harm done by the Watchtower Society--and he did something about it! I'll take that over easy words anyday.
