** Both ended up at the KH because people hated to host them at their homes. **
We had a Bookstudy in our home, and it was pain. Getting the house ready was one thing, but there were a few that didn't drive, and I would pick them up, and usually take them home after the study. I was also the Bookstudy conductor, so I had to act like I knew what the Tower was talking about, when of course, I didn't. Wearing a suit and tie in your own home didn't seem right either. :)

Bookstudy Group Disbanded......haha
by Mary ini just got word that the bookstudy attendance in one of the groups at my hall has dwindled off to numbers so pitiful that they're dissolving this particular bookstudy group and splitting up the remainder and shipping them out to other bookstudy groups.

How Do You Discern If Someone Is Telling The Truth or Lying?
by minimus inwhat signs do you look for in determining whether someone is really telling the truth, outright lying or possibly using "theocratic strategy"??
?

If they're holding a Watchtower, they're lying.

Family studies started in 1957 (I was 11) and continued off and on for several years.
Baptized in 1965.
Witnessed the Tower's 1975 failure.
Witnessed the Tower's blame the believers game thereafter.
Started the Tower fade in the early 1980s.
So many Tower failures, so little time. :) -

Back in the field
by mtbatoon in.
if you weren't known to the local congregation and had a list of dubs home addresses in your area, would you go reverse witnessing door to door?
-
JAVA
It seems that the dubs care more about who is doing it, and that they are crazy, and that they would never listen to a crazy person, or read his litature.
Cab's comments brings up an interesting suggestion. JWs think anyone contacting them about their religion is "crazy," but when JWs do the same thing, they call it "field service." How crazy is that? :) -

Have you expanded your entertainment choices post witness?
by Thechickennest inwe live in a small ranching community in western south dakota where chicken roping on saturday nights at the local redneck steakhouse tavern is the feature entertainment in town!
if we drive about 80 miles north we have more choices.
without 5 meetings, door to door, assemblies, study, study, study, etc, etc, that kind of frees up quite a bit of time.

Hello Thechickennest -- I see from the date by your name that you've been a member of JWD for a few years, but have only posted a few times. It's nice meeting you, and I enjoyed reading your post.
Moving on after exiting the Tower is important, and I think the best form of mental health out there. Some seem to get right out there and do it, and others struggle with issues of trust, forming new social skills, and so forth. It's nice seeing what you're doing--helpful hints to any looking for suggestions.
Yes, I've expanded entertainment choices post Tower. I haven't been to any male strip clubs like that wild kls, but have enjoyed some adult entertainment spots, attending a Unitarian Fellowship when we feel like it, a little traveling, and a couple of hobbies. It doesn't take long to fill in the hours spent in endless JW meetings. Like you, I wish I started years before, but why waste time crying over it now? -

I agree, and also encourage folks to put something in their bio. You can say a lot without being identified, if that's a concern. It's a neat service Simon set up, and would like to see more use it.

As pointed out by fjtoth, the Tower and RCC share many things in common, except for one:
The Tower is very jealous of the RCC, and the RCC isn't that concerned or jealous of the Tower. No similarities there.

Did you learn anything from the bible?
by JH indid reading the bible change anything in your life?
-
JAVA
I don't believe it's God's Word, but if it is, His Word isn't worth too much. It was written by a bunch of guy's that had a nation to run and rule, or others with a new religion in the making. The Bible, like other holy books, offers a little history and whole lot of myth. The Bible is an okay read if you don't take it religiously.

I see that you've been on the JWD for about 5 months. Did the information you found here play a part in your decision to step aside as elder? Congrats to you, TL!
