Life Was So Simple Before 1973

the committee told me it wasn't wise to do research for the watchtower was the final authority.

You're correct, RevFrank, not only was life a lot easier before '73, there was a lot to look forward to:
* The Big A was coming in '75, which means . . .
* No reason to plan for retirement
* No reason to have kids
* No reason to finish high school
* No reason to even think about college
* No reason work on a loveless marriage
* No reason to look for a better job
* No reason to help make the world a better place to live
Don't worry, be happy, and "stay alive until '75!" Yep, life was simple before 1973. :) -

i had fully intentioned to disassociate myself from the platform today, but i decided that if i wanted a chance to save my marriage that i'd better tell my wife.
she immediately went to to one of the elders.

But first and foremost the biggest hindrance to attending meetings was the unrelenting, boring, repetitious, content and delivery of the parts.
It's always difficult following Blondie's post. :) However, the above comments were my reasons for not getting to the meetings. A mind can only take so much boredom before it stops working all together. During the end I also used to think it didn't make sense anymore. -

Witnesses and alcoholism
by Grace inmy jw husband has made me promise to let him die rather than approve a blood transfusion because of bible doctrine; however, the same bible speaks against alcoholism and drunkeness and yet he continues to drink and sometimes gets absolutely smashed.. last night we were at a non-jw staff party for my place of employment, and he lost any shred of dignity through his heavy drinking.
we got home at 3 a.m. and he jumped out of bed at 8:20 and said, "i have to get to book study; i'm reading today.
(it behooves me how he can do this time and again without even taking so much as an asparin!).

Sith -- That is quite a story about your old KH becoming a place that's now doing good and is a service to the community. Great story! Thank you, and I admire what you're doing, Sith.It would not surprise me if she does what unknown numbers of JWs do in such circumstances: Quietly agree to the blood.
Steve -- I hope your JW aunt has the courage to do the right thing and access medical treatment for her symptoms. My mother is 90-years old and requires a bood transfusion from time to time. Thank god she is not a JW because she would have died years ago without the life-saving transfusions. I give blood a couple of times a year because I know it's the right thing to do. -

I knew several JWs with drinking problems, to the point of needing help to stand. If the medical community put alcohol in blood transfusions the Witnesses would burn their No Blood Cards.

but rather they announce " they are no longer a jehovah's witness.

GG -- I have no idea if it's true or not, but it doesn't matter one way or the other. The end result is the same of shaming a member, cutting them off from their entire social network, and JW family, too. Treating members as less than human is the trademark of the Tower, whatever they call it.
