Way to go--you gave them a "good witness."
I'll bet the Tower would stop the door-to-door sells campaign tomorrow if folks took the offensive regularly. It doesn't take much, for example: "Why would you shun members of your church for sending a Mother's Day card? Would Jesus stone people to death for doing that?"

Prayer doesn't cure the sick, says study
by Elsewhere inhttp://www.physorg.com/news5205.html.
prayer doesn't cure the sick, says study .
praying for people who are facing heart surgery does not raise their chances of a cure or of avoiding death, according to an unusual study published this saturday in the british medical weekly the lancet.

proplog2 ~ I'm sending you "feel good" vives because you made me smile! :)
Orangefatcat ~ Thanks for adding your experience to this topic. That was very real to you and the hospital nurse, and no one can deny what happened. The problem I struggle with is why others (indeed--everyone) doesn't have the same experience with prayer.
For example, if I randomly select 1,000,000 people to step off of a small step, I'm fairly sure 1,000,000 people in the sample group would have the same results. The study might be more interesting if half of the group went up, and half of the group traveled down, showing a 50/50 ratio within the group, thereby suggesting gravity works differently, and further studies are warranted.
Prayer is all over the scale when serious research is done, which leads me to think answered prayers is more of a random result than God doing His/Her thing. Yet, if your experience happened to me, I might have a different view. :) -

As already pointed out, we don't hear many testimonials about folks dying who had others praying for them. Then again, what can the dead say?

Muslim Extremists & JWs----Living A Double Life
by minimus inisn't it amazing to see how these people can mingle in society and in reality be living a double life?
they may be nice to your face but ultimately, they think we (those who do not conform to their beliefs) deserve death.

Politicians send others off to fight their battles.......
So very true. :( The Tower's GB is another example of offering up others while they sit around making up the rules.

Fun with Shunners ;)
by damselfly ini used to try and avoid running into jw's after i was first d/f, but the past few years i have taken a different spin on it.
at my old job as a cashier if i was the only cash open then they had no choice but to have me wait on them.
the apprehension on their faces as they approaached was hysterical.

I've posted this a few times before, but this "Fun with Shunners" thread makes me want to share it with others who have not seen it:
When I see JWs doing their door-to-door thing, I join in (no kidding). I go up to the group and say, "How's it going? Are you doing door-to-door work or return visits?" These folks don't know me because I've been out for many years. During the they don't know what to say next phase, I say, "I'll start at the next house and tell the householder that I'm shunned by Jehovah's Witnesses because of voting. You can follow up showing them from the Bible why you do that."
I've done this 3 times, and it's great fun watching them pile back into the car and leaving the territory. One guy said I was interfering with their ministry. I told him this was my ministry, too, and I wouldn't dream of trying to stop them. Same results; back into the car and out of the territory. :)

who escapes more often, those born into it or adult converts?
by kid-A inwhat strikes me on this board is the number of adult converts that have left the borg, either fading out or getting df'd.
from my experience (i was born into it, 2nd generation, left before getting baptized) most of the faders or escapees were also like.
me, born into it, never really accepted it and just bowed out at the first opportunity.

That's the first time I've ever heard of someone getting DFd for voting!
Yep, it happened. Central Congregation, in Dayton, Ohio. I wasn't attending meetings during the time, and the local elders couldn't wait to meet with me about this sin. I wrote a rather interesting letter to the Tower a few weeks later, and never heard from God's Organization again. :)

Damselfly -- great post! There is no need to play the Tower's shunning game. By not following their rules, it shows how curel and stupid the whole thing is. It's good for each and every JW to feel as much discomfort as possible when playing the Tower's game of treating others as less than human. Maybe it will help open a few JW eyes. If not, at least the brain dead will know what you think of shunning. Let it control them, and not you! Way to go, Damselfly.

I was sort of born into it because it's the only religion my parents showed any interest in. Bat at 18, and dis.fell. at 40 for voting (JW spouse turned me in). Guess I fall under the "born into it" group.
At 18 I was looking for answers, and god knows, cults have all the correct answers. Been out for about 19 years, went to college, found a real job, remarried -- life is much better on this side of the Tower.

1975
by Grouper in.
i am researching 1975 and i was curious to ask any that served as elder back then in the wtbts ever issue a directive to the congregations to stop or discourage believers from selling their property, cashing out retirements, early marriage, quiting jobs, etc., etc.................. thanks

As an elder in 1975, I know that the Tower did everything they could to encourage members to sell all and pioneer before it was too late. I attended a dis. assembly in Cin. OH in 1972, and one speaker said, "If a person starts a four-year college today, they won't graduate before the end of this system of things."
As we all know, a few years later, the Tower blamed members for putting too much faith in a date! :) -

we can point to the fact that even in the bible true prophets made erroneous statements.
It's now a fact that "erroneous statements" is a sign of being a true prophet. As greendawn pointed out, the Tower has a history of doing nothing but making mistakes, so any reasonable person should conclude that Jehovah has picked them as speaking "the Truth." It all comes together now.
