People traumatised by cults other that the WTS
by greendawn inthe wts is just one of the cults that exploits and damages people, besides it there are many others that operate and damage their adherants in a similar or worse way.

did you happen to come across such individuals that were similarly traumatised by these other cults or read about them on the internet or books?

Several years ago I was doing a literature review on cult-like religions for a college research project. I was amazed to find the similarities between various cults and the experiences I had as a JW. High-control religious groups use different terms and ways to entrap members, but when it’s all said and done—they’re nearly all alike!

Why would God need worship?
by Vormek2.8 inwhy would an all knowing master of space and time feel the irrepressible need to be adored by mere insects (relatively speaking), and indeed punish them in the most absolute of terms if they fail in this task?
indeed it makes god seem very human, although rather immaturely so.
we expect such behavior from schoolyard bullies, megalomaniac dictators and small children who demand adoration from their beaten dogs.

New beginning/New life

this has been a long time coming, but it is for the best.
we have had a troubled marriage since day 1. amanda's mom moved in with us 3 months ago after she lost her job up in kentucky, and our life hasnt been the same since.

An activists conference???
by Junction-Guy inwouldnt it be cool if we could get all of the activists together at a conference and discuss ways to counter the wt society.
we could make it a 2 day event, or even a 1 day event.
people such as barbara anderson, blondie, danny haszard, and the many more people who actively work to expose the jw cult.

How stressed were you as a JW?
by JH ini don't know about you guys, but it stressed me alot to be a jw.. i never did like talking in public, in front of a group, or going door to door.. gee, i hated the tms meeting.
the moment i knew that i had a talk, i became nervous and often i had a hard time sleeping.
just knowing that i had to talk for 5 minutes in front of the whole congrgation got me nervous weeks ahead of time.

I used to hate the time pressure of attending meetings, getting ready for the meetings, breaking up an entire weekend with field service on Saturday and meetings on Sunday. Projects at home always took a back burner because of a talk to prepare or project at the KH, and you couldn't get away from it all without feeling guilty.
The leadership at Brooklyn doesn't have a clue or they just don't care about the harm they've caused in the lives of JWs. I hope they start feeling the stress of being exposed as nothing more than ruthless warlords over trusting followers.

Like Gary posted, "Crisis of Conscience" helped me mentally leave the Tower before the Internet days. I wasn't attending many meetings but couldn't put my finger on the doubts I was having. I read an article in a news magazine about Franz leaving and his book. That put the nail in the Tower's coffin for me. Had the Internet been around in the late '70s or early '80s I would have gotten out sooner.
Information is powerful--that's why cults like the Watchtower discourage Internet use. The Internet has done more to expose the Tower for what it is than any single book or person; it's a great tool!
