RunningMan ? You?re right, we have seen a few JWs or folks associated with the Tower do some bizarre things, like murdering others. But I can imagine the day might come when a JW will walk into a Kingdom Hall or an assembly and unload a gun into the crowd. We had a guy in our KH that was on the fringe I visited in his home many years ago. He went upstairs to get something, and I remember looking around the room for an escape route if I expected or saw a weapon. The irony of that situation was he worked at the Post Office.

Thinking back
by purplesofa inmy bookstudy was at an elders house that lived a bit out of the city.
a small road with only his house and another.
the other house was the first you passed.....unsightly....trashed cars.......broken down bicycles............not trashy, but not like the bit of paradise at the elder house.. i remember the elder telling us how the man had become ill and lost his job working for the waterworks department, a city job, with little wages.

Purplesofa -- you raise a good point about the Towertower's history of helping others in need. When I think about it, Jehovah's Witnesses do VERY LITTLE for members of their own congregation that fall on hard times, so the idea of helping non-Witnesses is beyond the scope of this sect. If Jesus was driving by the family that's in your post, I'm sure he would have helped in some way. I don't consider myself a Christian, but the biblical Jesus is an example of a way of life that the Tower makes no effort to emulate. Indeed, it "sickens" many!

I?m sure most of you have seen some coverage about the murder/suicide by a member of the evangelical church called the Living Church of God. The church was founded in the mid-1990?s when it split from Herbert W. Armstrong?s Worldwide Church of God. The Living Church observes the Sabbath on Saturday along with other Old Testament rituals. It rejects the Trinity, and counsels members to remain separate from the secular world, by not participating in juries, politics or the military. The church?s pre-millennial view asserts that we are moving toward the ?end times,? and the church warned members to pay off credit-card debts and hoard savings in preparation for the coming financial collapse. Terry Ratzmann, a member for 5 years killed 7 members during last Saturday?s service before taking his own life. Survivors said he became upset during a service two weeks ago, and stormed out of the church. I often wonder about some of the fringe JWs that might be disappointed with the Tower?s end-time carrot. It?s a wonder this hasn?t happened at one of the Kingdom Halls.

Evil SMURFS?
by marked inokay, what's the deal with the smurfs?
i've heard mention here and there about some 80s rumours regarding demonized smurfs (or something) that got jws in a panic.
i remember when i was a kid my aunt telling my mother about smurf dolls with blood on them walking around, i think.

Elsewhere -- that's way too funny! In the mid-1980's I wasn't attending meetings, and didn't know about the crazy Smurf ideas floating around in the JW community. However, my spouse was active and because upset when I gave my young daugher a Smurf. When I was away on a business trip for a few days, my spouse burned the Smurt because she was sure it was bringing demons into the house! The good old days . . . :-)

From door to door, to door, to door.......
by Gill inwhat's the point i ask you?
here in the uk, it's an unavoidable fact that the majority of people are out at work, shopping etc.
if you really wanted to speak to people, and felt an urgent duty because the 'end is near' why aren't the jws in the shopping centres, streets, and generally where the people are?.

To most JWs, it's all about counting time, not about reaching the greater number. Going door-to-door is very ineffective, more so today than before, because folks are always on the go or just don't answer the door. If the Tower really wanted to reach more people in order to save the lost souls, they could buy media time and print, and spread the so-called Good News (if you're not a JW, God will kill you). But that would cost the Tower money. They have millions of little slaves going door-to-door; yes it's not effective, but it's free to the Tower. I'm sure Jehovah understands the bottom line, and has passed this on to the Tower. :-)

In the mid 1960?s we had an elder in the congregation that was a graduate of Ohio State. He attended Ohio State on a full scholarship by running track. During that time period, he was only one of a few JWs that had a college degree, and as a result, had a high-paying job with Ohio Bell. By the late 1960?s sports and college was a sign of spiritual weakness.

Let the Games begin.......
by Gill inwell, after being shunned by my realtions for the last few years, except for parents and sister i've decided that i will no longer play by the rules of the jw cult game.
i have had contact with several cousins, obviously too gob smacked by my cheek to shun in any way shape or form and have began wriggling my way into their awareness again.
i intend to be like a kill and destroy white blood cell that gradually wreaks havoc with their jw cells and destroys...repeat destroys all that jw crap that is in them.

Gill -- I think it's great when former JWs stop playing by the WT rules. Good luck to you!

24K -- How long as your spouse been a JW? Did you come from a JW background? Is your spouse aware that there is a wealth of information about the Society that's on the Web? Have you shared any of that with her?
