  It's great seeing wide-spread news about the JWs that isn't BS. It's been about 20 years since I was active, but when I think back about how many were in when I started, and how many of them were around when I left, I believe the 2/3 rate loss is what I experienced.

  Most of the so-called JW growth in the US is from kids being pressured into the sect. A few years later they're disfellowshipped, followed by Mom and Dad not talking to them. As my stats prof used to say, "Facts don't lie, but liars figure." This comes to mind when hearing about the wonderful JW growth.

  i haven't left.... 1 thing while i'm actually in is being here though.... i'm happy here.

  i actually feel for the first time really "right" about something... .

  so tell me who do you think he is?.

  Anyway back to the question again. Are we all agreed on Who God Is?

  I don't think it's possible for any thinking group to "all agree" on who God is, however, I'm fairly certain we all agree that it's not the Watchtower Society!

  Some on the forum might not know that Trevor wrote an interesting book, "Opening the Door to Jehovah's Witnesses." I'm not sure if it's still in print, but it was published in the UK in 2001. Trevor doesn't toot his horn about this; but that's not going to stop me from doing it!

  The answer to the question: "God" is the word used for what is not known by people who need an answer.
  
  "Those who know that they don't know, knows." Please note, that doesn't mean there is no God. It means when you don't know something you don't go around putting "God" into all the unknowns. If there is a God behind all of the unknown then He/She is very smart and doesn't need to play hide-n-seek with the fish tank.

  Hi Lore, you bring up an interesting point. If I was really visited by a god or demon, I'm not sure it would be safe telling others. Religious belief is based on what you can't see or prove. Just because I know there really is a god or demon doesn't mean others would believe it--and for good reason. Yeah, lets keep these visits from the spirit world to ourselves for right now.

  Well put, BluesBrother! You've summed up the JW Stages of Death & Dying. Hopefully the poor guy will experience a rebirth and “valuable lesson,” if he’s not too damaged.

  I think yes one can receive a visit from them and remain an atheist. Then the problem returns to the theist side to prove the unprovable again.

  Hello 5go, and thanks for the follow-up. I'm not a believer, but would find it difficult to remain such if visited by a god or demon. I'm not talking about some dream-state vision of a spirit that can be caused by various possibilities. I'm thinking of a visit in the here and now, where I can ask questions, see, touch and feel. If I had such a visit, I would become a believer. However, I'm not holding the air in my lungs for that to happen.

  we have such an interesting group of people from around the world on this board.

  it might be interesting to have a thread where you discuss a hobby, something interesting that happened in the past, somewhere you've been, etc.. not deep, dark confessions - just interesting stuff.. .

  * i have travelled into all 48 american states that are not named alaska or hawaii.. * for the past few years, i have had a slight walking impairment due to a form of arthritis known as ankylosing spondylitis.
