It's a personal matter for each Witness family. In my congregation, I know of a family who help watch their granddaughter. I know the little girl stays overnight their house. And their daughter has nothing to do with the religion, and doesn't appear to want to come back. But, the grandparents, and he's an elder, still want a relationship with their granddaughter and help out a lot. So,it's a case by case basis, there is nothing, as far as I know, printed anywhere that says you can't help out family. And from what I have noticed, even if the parents are upset with their children, and the course of life they may have chose, they still want a relationship with their grandchildren. Of course, I know others may have a different experience in this case.

Wow, it's hard to pick just one. I'm rather repressed and uptight. I wish I didn't take myself so seriously and not worry so much. And I have a guilt complex, and feel guilty especially every time I come on here. Of course, my conscience is hardening so it gets easier each time.

would you ever forget your life as a JW?
by highdose inand would you want to?
its starting to seem like a distent memory for me, even though its only been a year.

I just wanted to clarify something in my last post on this topic. I'm sure my brother remembers he was raised a Witness. But, it seems he has forgotten most of the teachings. He asked what we were doing for New Year's Eve, is just one of many examples. Maybe he's testing us, but I don't think so. He got the teaching of the resurrection mixed up with reincarnation somehow. So who knows. I myself would never forget, but I stayed in much longer than him and being a Witness has a much bigger impact on my life.

Switching congregations
by EmptyInside indid any of you start going to another hall if there were problems in your last congregation?
it happens a lot now.
when someone has an unresolved problem, they decide to go to a neighboring congregation..

Well, I already switched to another hall ten years ago. It's not that I had any serious problems, it's just that I was born into the hall and wanted to start fresh. And I do know people who are happier attending another hall. There are halls that are friendlier than others. And some have bigger troublemakers than others. And of course, the ones that go hall to hall, sometimes they turn out being the troublemakers. Of course, that being said I don't know where I stand anymore. I'm still mulling things over in my mind. But, I know even in my own family they knew if they didn't try another hall the only option was leave all together. And I know some of you think the latter would be the best option, maybe, but they still believe it to be Jehovah's organization.

My oldest brother has been out for decades. And he totally forgets pretty much everything he learned as a Witness. It may be all the weed working, too.

What percentage would you say doubt their belief that are still in?
by user10 inwhat do you think?.

I would say almost all have had doubts at one time or another. And if they say they haven't, they aren't being honest with themselves.

Did anyone else ever play their record albums backwards?
by EmptyInside inokay, i'm dating myself, record albums and all that, but i remember as a kid in the 80's, everyone was playing their albums backwards looking for some hidden satanic message.
my older brothers got talked into throwing a couple of their moody blues albums away.
anyway, it was all the craze in my hall.

And one obnoxious elder even had his own list of acceptable and unacceptable groups to listen to. But, fortunately he wasn't taken too seriously, because noone ever really liked him, especially the other elders.

Are Jehovah's Witness men good catches?
by garyneal ini've stated this before on this message board but i was kind of curious about this and wanted to get some feedback from the group.
in particular, the ladies who are either current or former jw's.. about a year or so ago, my wife went with me to a church i was attending at the time.
we then later that morning attended a kh meeting.

garyneal, the irony of it all is that since your wife and sister-in-law aren't baptized, they aren't considered Witnesses so, the kind of Witness man they imagine would not consider them. That being said, I am a born-in Witness and still considered active, and I have to laugh, when I hear women acting like it is so easy to find a good Witness guy, or any single, Witness man for that matter. I, up until now, had my heart set on finding a nice, spiritually mature brother. But, now I'm in my 30's and every year I realize there is less of a chance on meeting someone in the organization. The ones my age are already married and raising families or if they're single, they're a bit off. And then, there is the divorced man with kids and lots of baggage. When there is the odd, normal nice single/divorced Witness man available, it's like take a number. But, anyway, the next time you overhear your wife and sister-in-law lamenting on how they wish they had some nice Witness brother, just smile and say good luck finding that ladies. It's a needle in a haystack.

A freshly minted Assembly Hall, as seen through the eyes of a free man
by sd-7 inthe program was day 2 of the circuit assembly, but we'd been planning to catch the special assembly day (commonly referred to as sad even by me before i woke up).
i always felt sad after the program every time.
the new assembly hall is gargantuan.

I wish the best for you in your marriage. And I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets depressed after assemblies and conventions. I didn't go to my special assembly day in September, because I was just getting over my depression after the convention. Now, the circuit assembly in January makes me nervous. Maybe, there will be a blizzard. One can hope, but, then, the blizzard usually starts after you get there.
