What a wonderful and profound letter. I don't know how anyone could not be moved by such a letter, let alone your mother. Thank you for sharing something so personal with us.

ex bethelite experiences
by escape-artist inhello i used to serve at wallkill bethel.
i lived in the c building, i remember doing my watchman asignments with the little divice that you use to scan the areas you are supposed to reach.
at this time the construction was not complete in the printery and areas next to the main lobby.

Yes, I know it was more than a hobby raising the livestock. But, all the work and money and time raising livestock, I would think would equal the money spent on buying outside food. I heard they no longer have as many animals at the farm. Well, I am bias in this, I am a vegetarian. So, when I hear some at the hall mention the angus cattle at the farm and how delicious they are, it's one more thing that turns my stomach.

Ugh. Anyway, I find it interesting that Bethel takes the time to be raising farm animals, when the rest of us are encouraged to simplify our lives. Why didn't they always just buy their food for goodness sake? It surely would have given more time for field service. We're made to feel guilty for spending too much time on a hobby and they got a farm going on. I know it's not as big as it used to be, but I know they still have cattle, for some tax purposes of course.

Christopher, I am so sorry that you are going through all this pain right now. It's one of those things where you just have to take each day at a time. And find things that keep you busy and bring you peace. And I wish that for you. You just need to give yourself time. And no one or nothing is worth ending your life over. I have been in that state of mind, and I know that all may seem hopeless in the moment. But, in the morning there is a brand new day, for a new beginning.

A question about marriage in the organization
by dgp inthis post was motivated by another thread, namely.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188552/1/onereason-for-a-gentleman-fader-to-stay-reasonably-associated.
this thread makes reference to the fact that a 40 something brother has a real chance with twenty-something and less sisters.

Actually, I don't have a problem with an age gap, if two people really love each other. I think the main point is a lot of women, young and a bit older, settle for whatever they think is the best that they can get, because of there being a lack of normal single men in the org. And if a woman wants to obey all the rules of the organization and "marry only in the Lord" her choices are very limited. So, it is inevitable that a 20 year old and a 36 old woman are going to be going for the same man. I'll admit, I always preferred the older brothers, because the ones my age were just goofy.
Actually, I mentioned on another post that I saw the reverse in another circuit where a 53 year old woman married a 23 year old, close to her son's age. I'm sorry there is an ick factor to that for me, especially since her children are closer to her husband's age.

Yes, there is a brother I know that is divorced and a couple years older than me, he is 39 going on 40. And I heard a couple months ago, he was dating a 24 year old. He was even asking about a young sister I used to babysit. It makes me feel like crap really.

Funerals and Disfellowshipped Individuals
by lepermessiah innot to "hijack" dogpatch's recent thread, but the experience he relayed in the above topic struck a nerve and i was curious for more input.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188715/1/my-aunts-funeral-at-the-kingdom-hall.
if there is ever a time when a shred of human dignity and compassion is deserved, it is at a funeral.. i am appalled by the way disfellowshipped individuals are treated, but especially at witness funerals.. the flesh and blood relatives have the right to be there if they choose.
if you are a witness and you are offended by a disfellowshipped person attending, dont let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out.

Parakeet, I am so sorry for the loss of your father.
And whenever I have attended a funeral and one of the relatives has been disfellowshipped, I always make a point of going up to them to express my condolences. It is the loving thing to do.

Western PA here. At least we got mail today. But, Pittsburgh has the National Guard out to help emergency workers get to people's homes. Well, I guess I should consider it an unexpected vacation.
