  Questions for HomeSchoolers

  i know very little about homeschooling (as will likely be evident by my comments) but it has always fascinated me.. we have one daughter.

  i could see home schooling in the early years, but after grades 5 or 6, wow ... that would be a challenge.

  and i have a college degree.. my general comment/question is ... is if someone is that knowledgeable about so many different disciplines (math, science, literature, social studies, history, art, music, etc) why isn't he or she a professional teacher?

  Ynot, you seem to have it altogether as regards to your child's education.

  As far as the argument that homeschoolers won't be tough enough for the "real" world. If an adult treated their fellow employees like most bullies treat their victims on the playground. They would be fired and assault charges would be filed against them. There are cases where I wouldn't want a kid to deal with that kind of torture, day after day.

  Some people are more sensitive by nature, but with age and maturity they learn to stand up for themselves.

  Yes, and I found two friends I grew up with here. And it's great to be able to talk openly with each other. The only people in my "real" life where I don't have to pretend.

  Thanks for this information. I am researching the matter further and this helped.

  My problem is how can I share this info with Witness family members. Most know of what happened in Malawi. But, not too many Witnesses understand the double standard used for the Witnesses in Mexico. I don't know of anything printed in the Society's publications on the matter.

  Well, I'm happy to say, I'm not playing their little game anymore. I'm no longer going to exclude men just because of their religious beliefs or lack thereof. Right now, I couldn't even imagine setting up house with a hardcore Witness man. It would drive me mad.

  there are many things in the bible that sound like greek mythologies.

  i will start and you can add to the list.. a talking walking snake.. immaculate conception.. angels having sex with women creating nephilim.. a dove descending upon jesus after he was babtized.. the transfiguration.. some dude wrestling with an angel all night.. jonah being swallowed by a whale and living inside for three days.. a talking burning bush.

  If you felt/feel that you had/have good, close "friends" in the org, how did/does it feel to just give them up?

  this is my biggest dilema.

  although mentally i really feel i could walk away from the org right now, i still have genuine love for the people i have come to know over the years.

  exwhyzee-Your experience is truly heartbreaking. I'm so sorry you and your family had to deal with that.

  I've thought about this myself. And, even though, I was raised in the truth, for the most part, I have always been lonely. I had close friends when I was younger. And they all left before me. I found many of my new friends just never made too much effort to keep in touch, just because we went to different halls, just like Blondie mentioned. And once in awhile, I'm still invited out with some from my congregation. But, I find I can't relate to them anymore. So, the thought of totally being cut out of my few Witness friends and family members lives hurts, but nothing would change too much, as I hardly see them all now anyway.

  mine's was, if your job interfere with the meetings you have to decide who you will choose,.

  serving jehovah or serving man, if anyone knew my needs it most definitely was jehovah.

  and he knew i needed my job to eat.

  I'm sorry I followed the counsel from the Watchtower and didn't go to college. I didn't even take my last few years of high school seriously. The end is so near, you know. And, no worldly men, I'm still single, thanks for nothing. I'd be better off with a worldly man, then end up with the weird brothers that go to my hall.

  And then, the strangest personal counsel I got was from a sister about my disfellowshipped friend. This sister told me, it probably would be best to throw away anything my friend gave me, even a music tape she made me. Of course, I didn't, I still have it. It was the Smiths. I'm not throwing away good Morrissey music. If only I had a cassette player to play it on now.

  Well, I heard comments such as;" We are so close to the end". This was in reference to the last talk on Sunday and the generation. One brother had a diagram or something.

  Have your JW Relatives Explained about Generation/Overlap Change to You ?

  after reading on the way out's thread about his mom explaining the generation overlap to him it kicked this idea into my head to make this thread .

  i thought it would be helpful to see if anybody here has had jw relatives or friends try to explain this " generation overlap " theory to you as a faded or inactive witness and what happened in the conversations.

  so please feel free to post your experiences.

  And I forgot to add, my mother didn't realize it was changed to the wicked in 1995. But, she has lots of old volumes in her cupboard. So, I got it out and showed it to her.
